cmhh,
In the Cole Descendancy Chart that I have, there is a Joseph/Joel E. Cole (1852) who married Laura J.
Reeder (1860). I'm not sure why the person who put the chart together used both Joseph and Joe E. with
a slash mark. One of their sons was Samuel Cole (1881) who married a Ludie Perry (1883).
Those are the only names you mentioned that were similar. Judy

Hi List,
Looking for information about the parents and siblings of Henry Cole, Sr. of Wake Co. NC. A generous Cole cousin and her husband researched and recorded much material in pre-computer days. I thank them for sharing their work and him for providing their notes to me. The actual birthplace and parents of Henry Cole Sr. have not yet been determined--although some records suggest that his father could be a John Cole of Virginia. The following is our line of descent from Henry Cole Sr. Any suggestions or corrections would be welcome.
1. Henry Cole Sr. b. UNK, d. abt 1789 NC m. Maryan MNU, d. UNK. She and children named in his will, dated 1789 include: Henry Jr., b. 1753; Martin, b. 1755; George, 1759; Shadrack, b. 1766; Maryan, b. 1773; m. George Wood (named in Henry's will); Thursday, b. 1775, m. 1797 Jesse Burton, d. after 1860 in Clarkesburg, TX.
2. Henry Cole Jr., b. 1753 NC, d. 1839 Spartenburg District, SC. m. Susannah MNU, d. UNK. Their children: Jesse, b. 1791 SC; John, b. 1797; d. after 1860 in Itawamba Co. MS; Osborn, b. 1801, d. 1836 SC; Maximillian, b. UNK, d. probably SC; Henry, b. 1805 m. Sara Cox UNK; James, b. UNK; James (Jamie) b. UNK, d. UNK; Martin, b. UNK, d. Florence AL, and Elizabeth, b. UNK, d. UNK.
Note: Could the unusual name of the child Maximillian possibly be a key to earlier Coles?
Note: Brothers Henry Jr. and Martin are reported to have fought in American Revolution.
3. Jesse Cole, b. 1791 SC, m. Hannah MNU before 1820 in SC. Their children: James Martin, b. 1818; UNK Cole, b. 1825; Osborn Cicero, b. 1830 SC, d. 1863; Joseph P., b. 1832; Jesse, b. 1834; and Issac, b. 1836.
Note: Jesse's sons Osborn Cicero and Issac died in the War Between the States. Issac died at Richmond, Va 3 Aug 1864 and is buried in the Hollywood Cemetery. Isaac named a son Osborn Cicero, b. 1861.
Note: Some researchers believe that the UNK Cole, b. 1825 in the list of Jesse's childred may be Hannah M. Cole, b. 19 May 1824 Hall Co. GA; d. 18 Sept Greenville, Hunt TX. She m. 28 Feb 1847 Thomas C. Martin, b. 1814 SC.
