Gene Zubrinsky posted the notice below on the Cole Family Genealogy Forum
and on the Ancestry.com Cole Message Board. I'm posting it here in case you
didn't see it. I urge all James Cole descendants to read these articles. Gene's
excellent research is a valuable addition to our knowledge about these
families:
Appearing in the April and July 2006 issues of THE AMERICAN GENEALOGIST
(TAG) is a two-part article entitled "John2 Cole and Family of Plymouth and
Swansea, Massachusetts, and Portsmouth, Rhode Island: With Additional Corrections
to the Cole Literature" (see TAG 81[2006]:122-32, 238-45).
Based entirely on primary sources, the article contains the most complete
and accurate scholarship yet published about John2 and Elizabeth (Rider) Cole
and their children; the most precise dates of death in print for James1 and
Mary (Tibbes) Cole of Plymouth; and other corrections to the Cole literature,
pertaining to Hugh2 Cole and his son Benjamin3 and to James2 Cole and his sons
John3 and (newly identified) James3.

Descendants of James Cole of Plymouth

Hi All,
I am looking for information on my 3g grandmother.
Mary Ann COOPER was born 1848 in Dartmouth (possibly around Woodlawn). She
married William COLE on July 8, 1864, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. They had 9
children of which I believe 2 died young.
They are as follows: Martha, b. 1864 * my gg grandmother, m. Levi Conrad
Isabella, b. 1866, m. Alpheus Dela Thomas
Isabel Emma, b. 1868 - I believe died young
Mary Jane, b. 1869, d. 1871
Charles, b. 1873, m. Ellen Hoskins
Robert, b. 1876, m. Maude Ernst
Sarah "Bessie", b. 1879, m. George
Bainbridge
Annie, b. 1886, m. William Henneberry
Frances, b. 1890, m. Clifford MacDonald
Mary Ann died Sep. 20 1936, Woodlawn, Halifax Co., Nova Scotia.
I found her record of death in the new records that were just released. Her
father's name was Samuel COOPER born in England, mother unknown.
Her siblings were Isabella, Fred, Thomas, William, and Theusa (?). These
names were given to me by my grandmother so I don't know how accurate they
are. Supposedly, according to my grandmother, Isabella married a MacKay and
Theusa married a MacDonald. I have not been able to find any information on
these people.
Any help would be most appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

Hello all,
I am trying to research my Cole connections without much luck, all I have
been able to find is that my ancestor Edward Cole born c.1812 UK died 1895
Fitzroy Melbourne Australia, married Catherine Parsons June 1838 Stratton
Cornwall.
1841 census shows Edward (farmer) and Catherine living Budge Street
Cornwall.
They had two children in Cornwall before migrating to Australia,
Samuel John Parsons Cole born 1839 Cornwall died 1866 Victoria Australia
Mary Parsons Cole born 1844 Stratton Cornwall died 1881 Prahran Victoria,
she married John Aldridge.
I have been unable to find any parents for Edward or siblings, sorry to be
so vague but all research I have tried has come to a dead-end.
Any help would truly be appreciated
Cheers from Mary, Australia
Bertha,
I am not sure if they were Quaker's or not. I just don't have anything else
on them. Should I check the Meeting Minutes? Will that give me some names?
Help,
Bertha Ann

Bertha Ann,
could your COLE family be Quaker's? My reason for asking is that Kingwood,
NJ is just South of present day Frenchtown, NJ, and just a bit Southeast and
across the Delaware River from Solebury Twp, Bucks County, PA. Buckingham
Meeting Minutes is the meeting house for that part of PA at that time
period.
My Coles are from Essex, NJ. and NYC in the 1800's My Barnet Cole Was
accepted inthe order of Mason on 13, Feb 1813 in NYC. He Married Elizabeth
Richards in Essex, NJ 13 July 1813. Their Daughter Margaret was born in NJ
8 Mar. 1818. I know nothing more about my Barnet and Elizabeth Cole other
than was stated.

If you read the site carefully, you should of been able to figure that out.

It is worth the effort. I am so glad it is set up this way to help keep out
the spammers, porn bots or the trouble makers.
The main focus for the chat is genealogy and people helping others. They
have weekly special chats and they have guest speakers from time to time. It
is a great way to chat with live people in a comfortable atmosphere and not
have to worry about dealing with trouble. The evening chats are moderated
and I hear they will be adding more.
I am sorry you feel it is not worth it but I am glad I joined them several
months ago. I have made a cousin connection in there and I have had help
tearing down one of my brickwalls that I had for 4 years.

I suggest those of you who been having problems getting registered for the
genealogy chat to contact the site webmaster at genealogylookup(a)gmail.com.
However, I think I may be able to help a little since I visit there often. I
feel that some of you are trying to register for the genealogy chat message
board and not the actual chat room itself.
The genealogy chat and the chat message board are two totally different
things. There is a huge square on the genealogy chat page where the chat
room is located. That is where you would register for the chat room. Double
Click on "create a new user account" and fill out the form.
If you are not seeing this, it is possible that you will need to update your
sun java on your computer.
If you are clicking on the on the gray button below that chat room that says
- chat members ONLY message board - that is the genealogy chat message board
for the chat members. It is not available to the general public. If you
registered on it and are not a member of the chat room, you will be denied
access to it. They have the board set up that way to keep out spammers which
will keep it in a nice organized fashion for us.
It might help if folks would read over the site carefully or check out
their frequently asked questions page. It should be helpful.
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~genealogylookup/faq.html
It is sad to see when people get frustrated over something that is fairly
simple if they just take the time to read things carefully. It saves a lot
of heart ache in the long run.
