I am revising and updating E.B. Cole’s 1908 book, The Descendants of James
Cole of Plymouth. This is Luther8 Cole, born in Middleborough, Plymouth Co.,
MA, son of James7 Cole (Nathaniel6, Isaiah5, Benjamin4, Benjamin3, Hugh2,
James1) and his first wife Mary Gorham. Their children, as listed by E.B. Cole on
p. 232:
1. Amelia Frances Cole, b. 31 July 1848; m. Henry C. Lewis, 3 Oct 1883.
2. Ellen Eliza Cole, b. 28 May 1851; probably d. unmarried.
3. George Lipman Cole, b. 11 Apr 1855.
4. Edward Russell Cole, b. 9 Nov 1859 in Fairhaven, Bristol Co., MA; married
Maria L. Hackett. They had 1 daughter, Alice Russell Cole. [This family
listed on p. 288]
Discrepancies between E.B. Cole's data and the Bible:
- Ellen/Ella's first name
- George's middle name
- George's birth date
No descendants from this line have contacted me. In fact, the closest
descendants I have are 4 who descend from Benjamin4 (Benjamin3, Hugh2, James1)!
I would very much like to include this info in my book update, but I am not
interested in actually having the Bible. Are you willing to copy the
pertinent pages and fax or send them to me?
Thank you for posting this valuable info.
-- Pam Thompson
Many of the names in your list match three names of a Cole family living at
that same time in Huron Co., Ohio:
Lyman Cole, 1810-1853
m 1841 to Sarah Johnson who was b abt 1820 in Genesee Co, NY
c: Emma
Ella
Levi L., 1850 - aft 1984
Perhaps it's just coincidence, but the dates are close, three names match
[Sarah could have been married before, hence the Johnson/Carsley
difference]. Lyman and Ella were not common given names at that time.
Lyman was the son of Col. Asher Levi Cole and Hannah Kinney who brought
their family (7 boys) to Huron Co., OH, in the very early 1800's.
My data is always suspect, but Pam Thompson pamrthompson(a)aol.com should have
more complete and better records. I would suggest either contacting the
Norwalk (county seat of Huron Co.) Historical Soc. I think they have a
website. There were a bunch of Cole families that settled in Huron county
from 1810 - 1830 (mine included), and many of them were from the New
York/Vermont/Connecticut areas; mine came straight from Cayuga Co, NY in
1814, but I've never found any connection with Lyman and my family (David
Cole).
Good luck -- keep us posted.

Listed in the book "Landmarks of Rensselaer County New York" dated 1896
Cole, John P
This John P Cole was born in Troy Jan 5 1850. He is the son of John L, a
son of Lewis whose father came from Dutchess County in 1796 and settled in
North Greenbush on the farm now owned by Thomas Cole. Lewis Cole was a farmer.
There is a lengthy biography given.
also in the same book
Cole, Edmund L
Cole, Frederick S
Cole H. W.
Cole, Jacob
This sounds like the same Lewis Cole.
