I have a Thomas Anson Cole in my family but I don't know where he fits. I have pictures of some COLE family members (one includes an "Aunt Dolly") that were taken in NYC in 1889. I don't have any background or connections at this point but know they fit somewhere. Some possible connecting families to the COLE pictures are: SHERE, EMERT, SMITH, VOYLES, FLINT, AND McKAY.

My Great Grandfather was Lawrence Cole (died 1965 Michigan) from Pennsylvania. He lived in Parnassus Borough, Westmoreland County, PA. He was a coal miner. He worked in the Kinlock Mines. He was there March 21, 1929 when there was a fatal explosion. He survived.
He was married to Mollie Hertzog (Daughter of George Hertzog and Mary Elizabeth Meese)
Lawrence Cole's father was Charles T. Cole (1871-1931). Charles began working in the coal mines at a very young age. My INFO shows he lived in Coal Hill near Brownsville, PA. Charles was married to Ida May Brundedge and had 12 children: Lawrence, Lloyd, Lewis, Leoda, Laird, Lester, Lincoln, Leona, Logan, LeRoy, Leonard, and Loma.
Charles Cole wrote poetry, which was later compiled and published. He wrote about the daily life of a union coal miner.
Anyone connected to this family or has more info, please feel free to reply.
Thank you.

Hi, Margaret!
I can't link Ralph Tuttle to the COLEs, but, I descend from the original
Tuttles who came to Plymouth, MA, in 1633. She was Dorothy Suzanne
Tuttle, wife of James John BILL. Her father was Simon TUTTLE of
Ringstead, England, and his father was Richard Tuttle of
Northamtonshire. If any of this will help find someone's COLE ancestors,
I'm happy to share this. The archivists, in Plymouth, MA, told me that
by 1633, all the MA land had been taken by earlier settlers, so the
BILLs were granted land in coastal CT. This happened in many cases of
later Winthrop Fleet passengers, so please don't stop your searches in
MA. GOOD LUCK to you all!

Hi, Joan!
I haven't read that book, but will try to get it someday. Right now we
are waiting for them to build a new library. The old one sustained so
much water damage, the books were ruined. Thanks for the tip! I'll file
this information away.
Cindy
I am a direct descendant of James Cole of Plymouth.
James>Hugh>Benjamin>Jonathan>Jonathan
The last Jonathan was in NB by 1763.
Contact me directly and I can give you the entire lineage.
Several years ago I received a note with an attachment that listed the
ancestors of the Coles from Anne Arundel, MD. I saved the information as a
text file and will include it in this note (see below). I can not verify
the information, however, I feel this is a good time to look at it again in
view of the upcoming celebration of the 400th anniversary of the founding of
Jamestown in 2007.

JOHN COLE, born 18 April 1744, ( possibly Massachusetts) died 9 July 1817, Gorham, Ontario Co, New York, was my 5th great-grandfather. I have little information, but this is what I DO have.
He married Hannah ( maiden name unknown) born 31 March 1746, Massachusetts, died 3 Dec. 1816, Gorham, Ontario Co. New York. They had two children (that I'm aware of), JONATHAN and WILLARD .
My 4th great-grandfather JONATHAN COLE, born 3 September 1768, Berkshire Co, Massachusetts & died 9 August 1828 in Gorham, Ontario Co. New York. He married Mary Ann ( Polly) Brewer, born 1 May 1773, New Hampshire & died 19 May, Colebrook, Ashtabula Co. Ohio. They had the following children :
Willard, William, Hervey, Malinda ( my 3rd great-grandmother, married Roland A. TREAT), Gilbert ( married 1st- Sarah Owens, 2rd, Louisa Sholes ; children all from Sarah- Mary, William Franklin, Cyrus Owen & Cyrus Dudley) and Samuel.
WILLARD ( son of John & Hannah) was born 1779, Windsor, Berkshire Co. Massachusetts & died 30 December 1844, Gorham, Ontario Co. New York. He married Hannah Chapman, born 1779 ( place unknown) who died 9 May 1844 in Gorham. They had the following children : George W.( married Sarah, children, George, Daniel Merrit, & Mary A.) Esther Avery,( married Mr. Wrightman) Hannah Polley , Cryus C.( married Charity, children : Sylvia, Franklin, & William W.) and Amanda M.
Other information"
John Cole moved to Gorham, New York in the late 1790's. After Jonathan's death, Mary Ann ( Polly ) Brewer COLE, moved in 1830 from Litchfield , New York, with her son -in-law Roland A. Treat, husband of her daughter Malinda,( called Sally) to Ashtabula Co; the area that is now the town of Colebrook. I believe her son Gilbert came at the same time, since he married Sarah Owens in Colebrook in 1831.
If anyone connects to this family or has information to share ,I would greatly appreciate hearing from you
Joanne Mack, Salem, Oregon
Cynthia
Have you seen the book "Some American Families" by Paul Drake?
He gives a lot of information about the John Cole and Johanna Garrett
ancestors and decendants. There are Tuttles connected to this family.
I borrowed the book through inter library loan program at my local library.

Cindy
I do have some information on John and Johanna, if you would like to contact
me personally with a specific question I will try to answer it. Most of my
information comes from a book on the The Cole Family written by Ralph E.
Tuttle and not from personal research.
