Nathan Cole b. Dec.1760 Farmington, Ct. He was the son of Elisha b.April 1718 New Britain, Ct. and Keziah Judd b. 1730 d. 1760.
I am trying to find Nathan;s spouse name and where he settled. I have a Nathan Cole in Freehold, Greene County, NY,in which I am able to put him there in 1792. I think he may be the one born in Farmington, Ct. but haven't proved it. The Nathan in Greene County had a wife Phebe ??? This information from their sons grave stone. His name was Orrin Cole. abt 1840s. If so then Orrins siblings would have been Elisha, Russell b.1792, Charles H. b.1803, Amanda and Rachel Cole.
Hoping to find someone who may know what happened to the Nathan Cole b. 1760 in Farmington. Can not find him in 1790 census, thinking he may be living with inlaws. Just not sure where. Thank you, April

Pam,
Thanks for this excellent explanation as to why the error happened to creep
in and has been perpetuated. I have sent our email exchange off to my
husband and my friend as well as to Dick Weber at the big Sprague database.
He has Cole in his ancestry, also. He and I have discussed this problem as
he had the incorrect information on Valentine Whightman Cole in his
database.
Dotty Sprague Cole
PS Thanks to everyone else who responded to my posting. I really am not an
expert on the Cole name. I do have a membership to Ancestry.com and can do
census look ups for anyone who is interested.

Sorry for having accidentally sent the message before I was finished.
Ernest Byron Cole listed this information incorrectly in his 1908 book, The
Descendants of James Cole of Plymouth (pp. 78-79), which may be how your
cousin got confused. Belden Ray Cole repeated the error in his 1962 book, Twigs
of James Cole–Plymouth (p. 9). Both authors apparently confused Benjamin5
(Andrew4, Benjamin3, Hugh2, James1) with another Benjamin, the son of Benjamin
Cole and Excuse (Fones) Cole of North Kingston, Washington Co., RI.
Valentine Wightman Cole, along with Samuel, Joseph, and Rebecca, are listed
incorrectly as children of BENJAMIN COLE5 (Andrew4, Benjamin3, Hugh2, James1)
and his wife Rebecca Barton. Mixed with these incorrect children are 2 of
Benjamin5's correct children, Benjamin and Andrew. His other correct children
are Ann and Barton. The births of Benjamin's 4 correct children are listed in
Swansea Vital Records as children of Benjamin and Rebeckah.
I have no further information on the children of Benjamin and Rebecca and
would be interested in hearing from descendants.

Hi Cole Researchers,
In doing research recently for an 8th cousin of my husband, I came across an
error she had in her genealogy. She had thought she was a descendant of the
immigrant James Cole of Plymouth who kept an inn on Cole's Hill and who was
married to Mary Tibbes. That is my husband's direct line. However I
discovered that someone who had done her ancestry had selected the wrong Benjamin
Cole in generation #4 as an ancestor. The correct Benjamin Cole, Jr. takes her
back to John Cole who immigrated with his father, Samuel Cole. John was
married to Susannah Hutchinson. John and Susannah are also in my husband's
line. Here is how the Valentine Whightman Cole line should go:
Direct Descendants of John# Cole
1 John# Cole b: Abt. 1629 Sandwick, Kent, England d: 09 December 1678 in

confused.

Judith,
I have a William T. Cole that I found on the 1793 Wythe Co VA tax list; I
believe this may be a William T. Cole, Sr., but not sure. I have his wife
as Eleanor. He had 101 acres of land. I also have another OR the SAME
William T. Cole married to a Hannah Allison. I have their children listed
as an Ann Dykes and an Eleanor.
I have his parentage narrowed down to two choices: John Cole and Jane
Bounds OR Stephen Cole, Sr. and Eleanor. Just guessing, but since they
named a child Eleanor, probably is the latter.
I am sorry this is so sketchy, but I have been charting the Cole family to
determine any relationship to Mathew Cole, b. 1774. He is listed along
with this family in 1793 records of Smyth Co., VA., along with Stephen
Cole, Jr.; James Cole, Richard Cole, and Charles Cole.
Let me know this is helpful. Also, if you have information regarding
Mathew Cole, please advise.
Thanks!
