I have searched for years to find some relations to Edward B. Cole, born in
Cape May, Sussex Co., NJ on 9/22/1824 to no avail. Is there anyone out
there that can point me in the right direction?
His father was Frederick Cole, born 5/24/1805 in either NY or NJ and died
7/10/1885 in Plain Twp., Franklin Co., OH. I believe that they were living
in the same area as the Davenports in NJ since both families ended up in
the same location in Ohio in the late 1800's. John Devenport was born in
Sussex Co., NJ and his son, Lewis Devenport was born 4/1791 in Sussex Co.,
NJ and died in 7/1884 in Franklin Co., OH. He married Susan Waggoner who
was born in 1801 in Sussex Co., NJ and died 3/13/1876 in Franklin Co.,
OH. Their son was David Devenport who was born 2/26/1830 in Franklin Co.,
OH and died 12/17/1912 in Franklin Co., OH.
Thanks for any help!!!
Al Roberts (my grandmother was a Cole)
Hi, I got some more information on the Cole family and the tie in to the
Davenport family. My father thinks the woman in the photo may be Sue Cole,
who is buried at the Stockholm Methodist Church.
The Cole family homestead was actually in Vernon near the Canister
reservoir. The Cole family later moved to Stockhom and then again to Oak
Ridge.
Sue Rome married Harry Cole
One of the sisters of Sue Rome married Bill Davenport (my gr gr grandfather)

Hi,
I have a Cole family photo taken at the Cole family homestead in the Milton/OakRidge/Newfoundland NJ area. I don't have an exact date (1900-1950). The photo is of 3 men and 2 women standing in front of their home. The photo was one of many given to my grandparents (Barbados Davenports line) by friends and family living in the same area. I am especially interested in identifying the younger woman in the photo. She and I could pass as twins. If anyone can help me identify who this woman was or who the others in the photo are, I'd really appreciate. Please let me know if you can help. I'll get a digital copy of the photo and send it to you.
Thanks!
Chris :)

Does anyone remember the Cole/ Orso shooting.Probably in the early 1900s.
Cole because a minister from 1925 until at least 1956. His Church Charity Chapel
Church.
ATT: Dose anyone have the email address of Rochelle Platt Herring? I have
lost Rochelle's address and would like to talk to her about her Orso family.
A message I received below.
There have been about 3 or 4 ways that I have been told how ol Ab got shot,
by 3 or 4 people. Each one says that their version is how it happened. I think
maybe they all have some fact to it, and some alittle conjecture. My version
is the same. But, as I know it, here it goes. That dang Ab Cole was ill
tempered, hateful, until he got shot. Now, even as an old man, and he lived to be
over a 100, he was still a little mean and contrary. But they say when he was
young he was bound for trouble. He was known to fight, start trouble, run with
women, and drink hard. Somehow on that faithful day some of that was all
involved. Some of the story goes he was messin' with a gal over in the Dwhite
community, and some say they don't know where she was from. Some say a hog killin'
was in progress some say no. But what ever, it seems they all agree that the
shootin' took place at a turpintine still. And the lucky shooter was a feller
named Jim Orso. I don't know what Orso part was, I don't think he was innocent by
no means, but Ab was said to have said that he was going to kill Orso, the
next time he saw him. As the story has been told it was on a saturday and Ab and
some men had been adrinkin'. Maybe Orso, walked up, maybe he snuck up, maybe
he was there? I don't know, but something hit the fan. Ab grabbed a 22 rifle
ran behind what I figure was an outhouse, pushed the outhouse over on its side
and ducked down. Orso stood ready. When Ab peeped up to take a shot, Orso
let'im have it, right in the face. That was the end of the fight, Orso walked off
or ran off. And the men that were around came up to ol Ab. My ol Grandaddy was
one of those men. He said Ab? You gonna be awright? Ab had his hands to his
face. Ab had big hands and long fingers, and blood was seeping between them
fingers. He shook his head no, and said Henry I'm blind. My grandaddy reached and
pulled Ab's hands away from his face and puddles of thick blood was clotted
in his hands. Some woman, may have been Ab's mama Barbara Ellen, came from
somewhere with a sheet and wrapped it around his face and head like a mummy. Ab
survived that shotgun blast without a scar, just no eyes. His mama taught him
the Bible and faith and prayer. He became a Preacherman and died one. In years
after the shooting he married Ola May Sanderson and they had I believe 7
chillin'.
Does anyone have information on a Benjamin COLE in Sumter and Darlington
Districts SC in the 1790 to 1810 time frame. I tracked Benjamin COLE in the
censuses and found the following:
1790 SC Census--Cheraw District (Darlington)
1800 SC Census--Darlington County
1810 SC Census--Darlington County
Sumter County deed 1805
Benjamin did not appear in 1820 Census for Darlington or Sumter. Are all
these entries the same Benjamin COLE? Did he die or move to somewhere else? I
didn't find out where he was born or died.
