Dear List Persons,
I am new to the list and wanted to ask for help locating information on
the following:
Amos COLE, b. 1817 in Massachusetts ???, d. 10 Jun 1883 Starksboro,
Addison Cty., Vermont.
He was a farmer.
He had a wife Sally _____, b. ??? New Hampshire ???, d. ??? ,
buried Union Cemetery, Georgetown, MA.
His death record shows parents were Thomas and Alma COLE.
His gravestone in Green Mount Cemetery in Starksboro, VT. shows wife
of Lucy Ann _____, d. 5 Mar 1889.
Amos and Sally had at least one child:
Alson COLE, b. 1845 ??? in Starksboro, Addison Cty., Vermont; d. 18 Dec
1897 Grand Rapids, WI.
His death record shows: farmer, born in Vermont
f. Amos COLE - Vermont
m. Sally COLE - New Hampshire
b. Slarksboro, Vermont
w. Margaret J. COLE
We have been looking to make connections backwards from Alson and Amos.
Taking another look at this makes us think that the story goes like
this: Amos was born in Massachusetts and married Sally ____ from New
Hampshire while in MA. They had a son Alson. Sally died and was buried
in Georgetown, MA. Amos remarried Lucy Ann ____, place unknown. Since
Alson's death record indicates he was born in Starksboro, VT and his
mother is Sally COLE, then Amos and Sally must have moved to VT before
he was born. Sally died and was returned to MA for burial. Later Amos
married Lucy Ann ____. Amos and Lucy Ann died and were buried in
Starksboro. We are unable to locate birth records for Alson, or marriage
records for Amos and Lucy Ann, or for AMos and Sally. We also cannot yet
prove that the Sally COLE buried in Georgetown, MA is same person as the
wife of Amos COLE in this inquiry.
I realize this is long winded. But this has been very confusing and we
hope someone can shed some light on our dilemma.
Looking forward to your replies.
Scott Cole Douglas

I am seeking any information on the family of John and Mary Cole. They came from New York to Washtenaw County, Michigan in the 1830's. They lived in Saline Township. Known children were:
1) Benjamin, born ca. 1805, N.Y. d. 1868 Saline Twp., marr. Lovina (Last Name Unknown). The had children William, Emeline, Mary Ann, Jonah, Spencer, Ambrose, Eliza, Malissa and Horace Cole.
2) Henry, born 1809, N.Y., married Diana (Last Name Unknown). They had children Andrew, Jacob, Lucy Ann, James, Calvin and Amanda.
3) John, Jr. born 1813, N.Y. Married 1st Mary (Last Name Unknown) and 2nd Caroline (Last Name Unknown). He had children Albert, Moses and Clara (or Clarissa).
4) Andrew, born 1815, N.Y., married Mary Ann (Last Name Unknown). They had children Hamilton, Loren and George E. Cole.
5) Jacob, born ca. 1806, N.Y. married possibly Philena (Last Name Unknown), and had children Sarah Ann, Amanda, Oliver, Martha, David, and Emma.
Albert and Moses Cole (sons of John Jr.) removed to Antrim Township, Shiawassee County, Michigan.
Ambrose Cole (son of Benjamin and Lovina) married Elizabeth Hurlbut on 1 Dec. 1864 in Washtenaw County and Emeline Cole (daughter of Benjamin and Lovina) married Moses Hurlbut on 31 Dec. 1848 in Washtenaw County.
Any information on these families and possible parents for John Cole, Sr. in New York (born ca. 1774), would be greatly appreciated.
