What a coincidence! I was just working on this line yesterday and also found
the obit online. William Kendrick Cole (Joseph8, John7, Joseph6, Joseph5,
Hugh4, Hugh3, Hugh2, James1) is a descendant of James Cole of Plymouth.
By the way, I discovered that the name Vertschi in the obit is really
Bertschi.
Are you a descendant of William? Any other descendants of this family out
there?

Hello All,
Although posted at the bottom of my message, I should have been more clear
concerning the source reference of William's obit. It was located on a
search of the Klickitat-L archives. The gentleman who posted this also
maintains the county's GenWeb site. I do not know if the following email
address is current, but he can easily be contacted from the county site.

Helo list,
I am trying to trace Cole relatives that lived in and around the Lewisham
area of London (Kent) in the late 1800's. They mainly worked in the Brick making
industry. Names I have so far are William, George and their father Stephen
George. The mothers name was Sophia Brown who I think came from Essex. I have
reached a brick wall in my research and really need a miracle to be able to
carry on!!! So any help would be great.
Regards
Marianne Cole

OBITUARY
William K. Cole died at the residence of his son, W. B. Cole Hood River, on
Saturday, Nov. 17, 1900, aged 77 years, 3 months and 2 days. The birthplace,
in 1823, of deceased was in Washington County, Virginia. When 4 years of age
he came with his parents from Virginia to Indiana, where he lived until 21
years of age. He then moved to Missouri. When gold was discovered in
California, in 1849, he went to that Eldorado, but soon returned to his home
in Missouri. About 30 years ago Mr. Cole came with his family to the Pacific
Coast, residing at several places in western Oregon. Twenty years ago he
settled on his farm in Camas Prairie, which has since been his home,
although temporarily residing for a few years at Bingen, Wash., and Hood
River.
In the state of Illinois, many years ago, he was united in marriage to Sarah
Richards, his now bereft companion. To this union there were born in six
children, five of whom are living. They are W. B. Cole of Hood River, B.B.
Cole of Alaska, J. M. Cole, Mrs. Herman Vertschi and Mrs. Albert Vertschi of
Camas Prairie. In 1854 Mr. Cole was made a Mason of Oquawka lodge, No. 123,
Oquawka, Ill.
During the civil war deceased faithfully served his country for four years,
enduring with a heroic spirit the privation and suffering incident to those
dark days. He was a member of the 13th Missouri regiment and was captured
with his regiment at the Battle of Lexington, Missouri, in 1861. Afterwards
he served in the second battalion of the Veteran Reserve Corps. When 21
years of age he professed faith in Christ, and from that day until the day
of his death his family and neighbors bore him the happy testimony of a
consistent and practical Christian life. He was a life-along member of the
Baptist denomination, the church of his choice.
Services were conducted at the White Salmon church by Rev. J. L. Hershner,
on Monday, and the burial was in the cemetery adjoining the church. Of the
departed it may be said, in the language of one of old, "Thou hast come to
the thy grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in in his
season."

With no data this line has been dead to me for the 54 years Ive searched. I
was given a paper with the family tree and the only data on this line says Mary
Cole born in 1798 in Delaware married William Van Horn born in Feb 1786 in
Bucks Co Pa. His father was Bernard Vsn Horn and mother Hannah Garrett of New
Amsterdam. I do not know how to progress. The early census listed only the mans
name so Im at wits end how to continue. Any clues will be appreciated. Im in
my 60s with Parkinsons so while Im still able I want to find more about her.

Hello,
I don't think I can help, but would be interested to know the years for these
people - or even approximate years.
Thank you, Margaret Read (whose grandmother was a Cole).
Hello everyone, I am new to this and I hope someone can help. I come from the
line of Charles Clay Cole, sullivan co TN who married Leona Huffman. His
father was Lonnie Earl Cole whom married Virginia Evelyn (maiden name unknown)
Lonnie's father was Saul (Solomon?) Cole whom I told was full Cherokee Indian and
was married to a short Dutch woman (name unknown). Now you can see my
frustration. My cousin and I are very interested in tracing this for his college
purposes and also to have our family history. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Lee Anne,
Have Israel Cole descendants replied to you offline? I don't remember seeing
any responses on the list. Many descendants of James Cole of Plymouth who I've
worked with are also Israel Cole descendants. What is your Cole line and what
info are you looking for?
