Hi Cole listers,
I am new to the list. I recently finished transcribing Jennie May Cole's
diary from 1875 and can e-mail it to anyone interested. My wife descends from
Jennie. Jennie May Cole's genealogy is as follows:
1) Jennie May Cole (b. 5 Oct 1855, d. 31 Oct 1918), married in 1877 George W.
Rudd.
1) Daughter of Simeon Barber Cole (1819-1862) & Adelia Bassett
2) Simeon is the son of Benoni Cole (1795-1870) & Hannah Kenyon
3) Benoni Cole is the son of Moses Cole (1753-1828) & Isabel
4) Moses is the son of Moses Cole (1726-1814) and Mary Sperry
In the diary is a list of birthdates:
Lina Cole was born March 9, 1801
Esther Kenyon was born Sep. 12, 1806
Bennoni Cole was born March 31, 1795
Hannah Kenyon was Born March 25, 1802
Simeon B. Cole was born May 30, 1819
Thede I. Cole was born Jan 7, 1821
Sylvanus N. Cole was born Dec 25, 1823
Chauncy B. Cole was born Jan 13, 1825
Sally A. Cole was born March 4, 1827
Esther is the sister of Hannah. Benoni, Hannah and Simeon I know. My
question is, does anyone know any more about Lina, Thede, Sylvanus, Chauncy and Sally
A.? I can assume by how they are listed that Lina is Bennoni's sister and
the other Coles are all his children, but would like confirmation. I have not
found them in censuses. Thanks!

I think we are researching the same Cole family. I have Steven
Cole/Elizabeth Temple; Steven Cole, Jr; and James Cole/Mary Renfro in my

Mary Etta Cole, daughter of Jeptha N. Cole/Amanda Miller who m. Wiley
Bounds, son of John Clark Bounds/Elizabeth "Betty" Mason. Contact me at:

I do not have George Washington COLE of Kirbyville but feel he must be
related to the COLE family I am researching as my husband's family are
scattered all over TX and LA. The family story is found
in the Beauregard Parish History, Volume I in the Lake Charles Library.
Essentially, it says that
Steven COLE arrived in Philadelphia from South Wales, Great Britian on
the ship "James and Mary."
in Sept, 1701. Steven COLE married Elizabeth TEMPLE in Philadelphia , Penn,
Their son, Steven COLE, Jr., grew up in VA and raised a family of 10
children there
His son, James COLE , born 1732, married Mary RENFROE and moved to
Craven Co., NC
to raise 9 children. When, the children were nearly grown, James and
Mary an several of their neighbors ; loaded all their belongings on
rafts and started down the Ohio River to settle in a new area.Hostile
Indians attacked the rafts and some were destroyed; people killed or
captured.
The COLE family managed to float down the Mississippi River to Natchez,
Miss where they settled at Cole's Creek. From there I have several
James COLE and Richard who married (first) Celeste FRUSHA and after
her death Pheobe SHIRLEY in Calcasieu Parish, LA.. He is reported to
have died in Lufkin , TX and left sons: Silas COLE (from first
marriage), Marion, John, Oscar, and Joseph Addison COLE (from 2nd
Marriage.)and daughters. Joseph Addison COLE was born 1872 in LA and
died at DeRidder, Beauregard Parish, LA in 1955.
Many of this family lived at Hickory Flat near Oberlin , LA
beginning about 1850.
Can you tell me why George Washington COLE was buried in
Kirbyville...since he died in Houston? What dates? Irene Walton,
Nacogdoches, TX
Sorry, I should have been clearer. Lydia Cole who m. George Sisson was the
daughter of Hugh Cole and Deborah Buckland.
In this time period, Coles from the Barnstable area are much more likely to
be from the Daniel/Israel Cole line than the James Cole line.

So it appears there were two Lydia Coles.
Does anyone know which of the two was the daughter of Hugh Cole and Deborah
Buckland?

Hugh Cole and Jane Sisson had 10 children. His will, dated 27 Nov 1772,
proved 8 Apr 1785 in Scituate, RI, names the 9 living children. No Charles.
Charles is not a common name among early generations of the James Cole of
Plymouth line. In fact, the first one I know of was b. in 1805.
I know there were Coles in Grayson Co., VA, and Grayson is right next to
Washington/Smyth, but as far as I know, none of the Grayson Coles were from the
James Cole line. Maybe we'll make a connection someday!

Hi Everyone;
Does anyone have information or relationship to the following family
siblings I found on a March 14, 1853 Military Land Bounty for land in
Johnson County, Illinois.
William C Cole filed the bounty based upon the death of his brother Peter R
Cole who died during the Mexican War. The other siblings of William and
Peter that are listed on the warrent are James M. Cole, Rebecca Fielding,
Julia Ellinder, Eliza Hill and Mary Ann Frances. Their address were listed
as Smith Co, TN and Calloway Co, KY. Through Peter R Cole's military record
I have found that he was born about 1826 in Rockingham Co., NC and probably
his siblings were too.
Thanks,
Gordon Cole

I have been trying to do research on Ellen Cole from Tennessee. She was my
grandmother.
She was married to Dean Ledford. She had a brother named Charlie Cole and
her father's name was Niles or Nelson Cole. Ellen lived in East Tennessee and
she was born around 1889 and died in the 1940's and is buried in Maryville, Tn.
Anyway, if anyone has any information it would be appreciated. I can't seem to
find anything on this part of my family. The information I have is what my
parents know.
Does anyone have info on Charles Cole, b ca 1745. He was the son of
Hugh Cole and Jane Sisson.
I have found him listed numerous times, but no one seems to have info on
him. He is in the right
time frame to be the father of My Charles Cole, b ca 1761, who settled
in the same area in VA as the
Mass Coles. I have found info on my Charles starting in 1793 in
Grayson County, VA. He is my
brick wall as to finding ancestors. I have lots of descendants.

I do not believe that the Lydia Cole who m. Thomas Dean is the same Lydia who
m. George Sisson. Lydia and George lived in the Swansea/Portsmouth area, not
the Barnstable area. Also, the son of Lydia and Thomas, Jonas, was b. in 1732
in Barnstable according to Message #3395 on the Dean Family GenForum--but
Lydia and George had children together in 1730 and 1733 over in Swansea/Portsmouth.

I am not an expert on this particular line (my line is through her brother
Hugh Cole and his wife Martha Luther), but my notes I have collected show:
Lydia Cole, born 7 Oct 1691 in Swansea
Hugh Cole and Deborah Buckland were her parents
Lydia married George Sisson on October 11, 1721 in Swansea
Did Lydia marry twice? or are my records in error?
