Hi Joy,
I have a Eleanor "Nellie" COALE who married Henry RUTTER/RITTER 22
April 1783 in Frederick County, Virginia by the Rev. Christian Strait.
I have been working very hard on connecting the RITTER/RUTTER family
of Frederick County and surrounding counties in the 1700 and 1800s.
I have NOT proven beyond a doubt that the following is my Eleanor
COALE; however, everything so far points in that direction. I have not been
able to find the original marriage bond for Henry and Eleanor; however, their
marriage is listed in most reference books for marriages in Frederick County,
Virginia for that time period.
Another early Ritter was awarded a warrant in Green County, Ohio which
he sold to a partnership who in turn sold to someone else. The interesting
point here is that the Ritters who married into the Hawkins family show up
living in the area where the warrant survey was located in Green County,
Ohio.

Does anyone have this family in their Cole\Coale data?
Ruth Cole-------have no dates, location or parents
>From Maryland records
Ruth Cole m. Nathan Hawkins 14 Feb 1744
Nathan b. ca 1722 so would think she was
in that time frame.
Would appreciate any clues or links for research
so far I have come up with blanks
Thanks,

Joy,
Although it is far from complete, I invite you to take a look at my database
at
http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=jcottinger
Although I can't prove it, and it doesn't show on the database, I think it
at least somewhat likely that Ruth Cole was a daughter of John Cole and his
second wife Dinah Hawkins, Nathan's aunt; thus making Nathan and Ruth first
cousins, marriages between which were fairly common in the time period. I
would be happy to explore this more fully with you if you wish, but again I
don't have absolute proof--I doubt that there is more than just
circumstantial evidence.

Janice,
As you no doubt know, your line appears in E.B. Cole's The Descendants of
James Cole of Plymouth up to the family of Calvin Cole, Eleazer's son.
Elbridge is listed there as a child. p. 87.
Further information is included in what I call the C.M. Cole Manuscript.
Charles Cole9, (Reuben8, Southern7, Calvin6, Eleazer5, Joseph4, John3,
James2, James1) left an undated 6-page typewritten manuscript with
information on the descendants of Eleazer. On your line, he stops with the
family of Elbridge Cole in the 7th generation, where Sylvester is listed as a
child.
I am interested in adding what you know to this line. Offline I'll send you
what I have in my manuscript (update and revision of The Descendants of James
Cole of Plymouth).
Thanks,
Pam Thompson

This family went to ME abt 1790 and settled in Oxford Co, many around
Greenwood - Woodstock, near
S Paris.
I would like to help, cooperate in any way possible. I started working
on this family back in 1972, but had to
become inactive due to young sons and working in addition to being far
removed from Maine.
In the '70's, I was finally able to find a distant cousin in MD, Frank
WHITE, who had worked with another relative in compiling data on this
family from about 1930 - 1960. I lost touch with Frank years ago and
don't even know if he is still living. Does anyone know where I might
locate him ?

Judy,
Barnet is an unusual Cole name. Only one is listed in E.B. Cole's The
Descendants of James Cole of Plymouth, p. 123: Barnett Cole, first child of
Ephraim Cole and Waitsell Ormsby, m. 15 Sept 1771 in Swansea, MA. The only
information E.B. Cole had on Barnett was that he settled in Lockport, NY.
What do you know about your Barnet?

Hello List,
I am seeking information about John C. Cole b 4/17/1823 in Auburn Twp,
Crawford Co, Ohio and died in Sandusky 1893. This Cole was son of Barnet
Cole Sr. and Elizabeth Champion. He is listed in "America's Quilts and
Coverlets" as a professional weaver of coverlets in Crawford Co, Ohio in
1861. I have lots of information about some of his family, and burial sites
etc, but no real information about this fellow. Can anyone help me out? Or
with any other members of this Cole line. I am certainly willing to share my
Cole information, including photos.

Her father - William Dalrymple
Her mother - Mary Thomas
Mary Elizabeth born 1853 NJ (prob Warren County)
Any connections?
Thank you.

Hi Listers:
COLE (or COALE)
Seeking a photo(or any info) of my mother's first husband SAMUEL EDWARD
COLE (or Edward Samuel Cole) born in 1885 in Cherry Hill (Cecil CO.), MD.
but lived most of his life in Newark, DE. with his sister IDA Morrison.
He married my mom in Hartford, CT. in Aug.1917 but they were separated by
1919. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias; Masons; volunteer
fireman in Newark and a member of the Methodist Church. He was also a
well-known paper mill worker (Curtis and others). He also was well-known
in the Westchester, PA. area). He died in 1940 and is buried in the
Methodist Church Cemetery in Cherry Hill, MD.

Hubby's Alva Cole born 1879 in Fayette Co., IN is from a Cole family that
was in Wyoming Valley of PA, then VA and then OH before ending up in
Indiana. Have always wondered if Alva was a popular name in that time frame
as the name does not carry through his Cole line.

Hello,
One of my ancestor's is Daniel Cole. He married Joanna Williams in Rehoboth, Bristol Co., Mass. in 1817. Then moved to Freedom, Ny (Cattaraugus Co. then, Wyoming Co. now). They both died there in 1826 (a bad virus). I know that Daniel's father was Aaron, and his mother was Alice (Alsa, Elsie). Daniel and Joanna had 5 children. My ancestor is their daughter, Mary Ann Charlotte Cordelia. Does anyone have any information on Daniel and Joanna? Thank you very much! Maggie
I just had a look in my copy of Southern Cole Families and did not see your
William Cole. But I might have missed him. The second half of the book is
packed so tightly with information, it is easy to miss a name. There is a
kind of index but not all the names are in it. The first half of the book
is the Hosea Isaiah line and all the extended families. But none of those
lived in Tenn.
The Gadsden library in Etowah County, Alabama, has a copy of the book in
their family history section if that is any help.

Looking for info on COLE, CRAWFORD, WRIGHT families in Georgia > Alabama.
Does anybody have a copy of Southern Cole Families by Mattie Lou Cole
Stanfield? If so, I would much appreciate a lookup of my William Cole.
According to the 1870 census of Knox County, Tennessee, he was born about
1847 in Tennessee. I can't find him in the 1850 or 1860 census.
My genealogy library in Knoxville, Tennessee does not have a copy of
Southern Cole Families. The Tennessee State Library and Archives in
Nashville does not have a copy of Southern Cole Families. The Library of
Congress does not have a copy of Southern Cole families, so Mattie Stanfield
must not have gotten an ISBN number nor a LC number for her book.
Thanks in advance,
Jerry Bryan
