Hi! I'm new on the list, and my line springs from Samuel Craton Cole, b. 1833, d. 1862, who married Sarah Sallie Fuller, 1813-1917. Both were born in SC but lived most of their lives in Paulding Co., GA. Samuel died in the CW, and Sallie moved after the turn of the century to Franklin Co., AL, where she died and is buried.
Sam's father we're pretty sure is James C. Cole, Sr., who married Patience Swafford. (She was his second wife and much younger than he.) Any info anybody has on these families will be greatly appreciated.

Pam,
I have lost your address. I am wondering if a William Cole who lived in
Dalton, Berkshire, Massachusetts in 1800 is one of yours. That is is he a
descendant of James Cole of Plymouth Colony?
Ed Cole
Yes, I'm looking for Archie Edwin Cole, born in Huntington Co., Indiana in
1887 and married in Washington, D. C. in 1916. He would have been 33 years
old in 1920. Could this be the Archie in your photo? --Lee
Does anyone know of an Archie Cole that might have been in "Company A"
of the U.S. Cavalry in the 1920's ?
I saw a group photo of the Company in an local antique store and
thought someone might be interested.
Best to all,
Perk Bingham

Time- and effort-saving hint: In general, neither of these books includes
information on southern Cole lines, especially prior to 1800 and probably at
least to 1850. Ernest Byron Cole (1908 book) lost the line of James Cole
descendants that went to Washington Co., VA, in the later 1700s from NY,
along with a line of descendants of Daniel/Israel Cole. These 2 lines (Joseph
Cole and Israel Cole III) originated in MA; the connection was made by
Redmond Selecman Cole in the 1940s-50s. I know of no other James Cole
descendants who were in the south before 1800.
Frank Cole's book was published earlier and includes info on some James Cole
descendants, most of which is in E.B. Cole's book. He also has info on other
New England lines.
If you find you are a descendant of James Cole of Plymouth, MA, and are
interested in having your line included in the update I'm preparing of that
book, please email me at pamrthompson(a)aol.com.
You can also be sure that I read every message on this list and respond if I
find a connection to James Cole, not only in E.B. Cole's book, but in all the
other information I have.

Cinda,
Solomon Cole came to SC from Tn. in the mid to late 1700s. Mary Pinson,
daughter of Aaron Pinson, was his wife. Mary possibly died in childbirth in
the late 1700s. When her father, Aaron died, his will shows Mary's share
going to her children. There was one minor and name not mentioned. There
was a Jerimiah Cole in Laurens Co., SC at the same time Solomon was there,
how ever,
no where have I been able to find even a sentence to prove he was his son.
Also, there was a William Cole (m. Martha Mitchell, widow and mother of one
son, Harrison Mitchell) in Laurens Co. They left Laurens and ended up in
Alabama.
Jerimiah Cole, was in Ga after 1830. I have contradicting data on Solomon's
place of death. One is Laurens and the other is Carol County, Ga. I would
like very much to know who William's father is. I do know it isn't Solomon
who may have been an uncle or ? .
Would you check your book for them? I live in SC and will do lookups
for you if you should need any.
Thanks so much!

Hello Cole researchers,
I'm looking for information on William and Alexander Cole who appear in the 1800 census in Burke County, NC.

A Thomas Cole b. approximately 1790 moved from Burke County, NC to Giles County, TN in 1819. I'm hoping he is the son of one of these men, and that a George Allen Cole is also.
Any information at all would be greatly appreciated. I understand that the Federal Troops burned many of the Burke Co. records in 1865, so information is hard to come by.
Thanks!

I'm not sure whether we currently have listmembers dealing with the mystery
of Ransom COLE, but here's the puzzle as we left it back in '98:
The chart that identifies Ransom COLE as the son of Daniel COLE and Mary
DuBOSE gives his birthdate & place as June 11, 1800 in Edgefield District,
South Carolina and his death date and place as September 19, 1887 in Bryan,
Cass County, Texas.
His wife was identified as Agatha BOSTWICK, born about 1806 in Georgia.
Their children: Mason D., Georgiana, Martha J., Jasper Newton, Weltha,
Pleasant P., Elizabeth B. Cole, and Noah B. Cole b: August 19, 1847 in
Alabama. [Skipping details on the older children, as Noah is the focus of
this particular puzzle.] Noah married Mollie Rawles, and their line deadends
with a son, Robert E. COLE.
Another chart, which did not identify Ransom's parents, gave his birthdate &
place only as 1800 in SC and his death place as Bryan, Brazos, Texas. His
wife was identified as Mollie Rawls. His son, Noah Benjamin, was shown as
born August 19, 1848 and his wife was identified as Lula Davis. This chart
deadends with Noah & Lula's son, Charles Mason COLE.
As if matters weren't already complicated enough, in addition to the son
Ransom, Daniel COLE also had two grandsons named Ransom....
The ability to compare charts like this, spot similarities and discrepancies,
is the reason I encourage our members to post GEDCOMs to WorldConnect.

My Cole family lived near Wharton, Ohio. David Cole was born 19 Oct 1793 in
PA and died 24 Feb. 1876 and in buried near Wharton. Living with him in the
1850 census was Abisha Cole. Abisha may have been his father. Abisha was
born in 1765 and died 31 Aug 1852 and is buried in Spoon Cemetery also near
Wharton, Ohio. Is anyone related to my Cole family. Help please. Kay
I have looked up relatives in the headright index for GA. Is there a book
somewhere that gives more information than just the index? Would I need to
write to the county for the info? In other words, could I find out about
relatives, maybe the wife's maiden name? What is contained in the original
headright papers and where are they? Can anyone on this list do a lookup?
