DeAnna,
I am researching Coles in Wallowa and Union county. Union boarders
both Wallowa and Baker county. There was a boarder change at one point and
part of baker county is now in union county. There were 2 unrelated Cole
families in Wallowa county in the 1900's. My Cole line migrated around the
USA, the other Cole line came directly from NY. Nelson is not a common
name within my Cole line, but Levi is. Have you checked the census records
and worked backwards. The Wallowa county 1900 census is online.
My cole line is online at www.nwpaintedponies.com/gen/cole/index.html .
Let me know if you have a connection to my coles. We are trying to get a
geneology get together for the families researching folks from Union
Wallowa OR. The date will be Aug. 4th, location would be in town of
Wallowa.

Levi Nelson Cole was born 8 May, 1857. I do not know
where. I do not know
who his parents were. He died 14 March 1918 in Baker,
Oregon.
He married, had three daughters and then divorced and remarried in a
hurry.
I do not know the name of his first wife, but believe two of his daughters
were Amy and Grace.
By 1880 he had a blacksmith shop, homestead and tree claim in Greely
Colorado.
Levi's second wife (and I have found no records to indicate they actually
were married!) was Cora Lynn GOODAN who was marrried to Miles Riger BURLEW
and had several small children when she left him to marry Levi Nelson
COLE.
Levi and Cora Lynn COLE then had Nelson Goodan COLE (1899) and Joseph Logan
COLE (1901). Both of these sons were born in Boulder,
Colorado. Nelson
Goodan COLE was my grandfather and a wonderful man.
As a beginning genealogist I can't really claim Levi Nelson COLE as my
'brick
wall' since I haven't been at this long enough to really have a brick
wall.
Still I am stumped. I can't find information about him
anywhere. He didn't
leave much of a trail!!
Any help would be greatly appreciated - and I would love to find
a new
cousin!!
Thanks.

Hi Denise, have you tried writing to the Guernsey County District
Public Library for information on your William Cole? They have a lot of
records and in 1993, they only charged me 25 cents/page for photocopies of
records that they sent me on my Mehaffey family who once lived there. They
have many records including probate and census records, as well as county
histories, and city directories. I think that the library is also the
repository for records of the Guernsey County Genealogical Society. Their
address is:
Guernsey County District Public Library
Local History and Genealogy Dept.
800 Steubenville Ave.
Cambridge OH 43725-2385
phone: 614-432-5946
Address for the genealogical society:
Guernsey County Genealogical Society
836 Steubenville Ave.
Cambridge, OH 43725-2399
By the way, I have a descendancy chart from Robert Cole, who came to
Massachusetts in 1630 with the Winthrop Fleet and later moved to Rhode
Island with Roger Williams to establish the Providence Plantation
on my website at:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~bbunce77/Cole_gen.html
Good luck.

I am unfortunately stuck with the end of the Cole line --- being Alfred M.
Cole marrying Mina A. Nicol in Theresa NY. I found from a Michigan Census
that Alfred was born in 1852, in NY, and that his father was a Canadian
-"English", mother born in NY. There are many Coles in that era in
surrounding counties. I am trying to see if an Allen Cole or Jacob W. Cole
might be the father of Alfred M. Cole. There was also an Alva(h) N. Cole
that came to live nearby Alfred Cole in Michigan, so I am wondering if that
is a brother or cousin.
That is all I have at this time,
Thanks for any help you can provide

Do any of you have a Jacob Cole b. abt 1767
married to a Winneford abt. 1789 or so? Not sure where they were born or
married. Appeared in GA in late 1700s. Moved to SC for a time. Had
William Jesse, Henry and Nancy late 1700s. We have very little info on
Henry. Does anyone have a Henry without a father who could have been born
in GA in the late 1700s? It may appear that he was born in SC because he
may have married and raised a family there. Jacob and Winnie are listed as
early settlers of GA.
