I would very much like to find info on Gussie Lanxton married Oscar Cole
in Arkansas She was born in Tuckerman Jan.24 1892..She died in 1964 in
Indiana. He died in1974. I know they were married in Ak. I am pretty
sure it was in Jackson Co. I live in Indiana Very hard to get info on
Ak. I am trying to find birth names for Gussie's parents
Thanks Nancy
Thank you Barbara, I don't have any Robert Cole, but asked Vicki about her family because she had listed no location in her previous email.
I am stuck on my William COLE from New York. He married Mary NEWMAN. I don't know where or when, but they had son Newman Elijah COLE in Herkimer Co., NY 1823. I have no proof yetfor this marriage or birth.
Wm. & Mary and son ( and I don't know if there are siblings ) came to Michigan settleing in Calhoun Co. They had a farm east of Battle Creek, MI. in a little township of Burlington.
This info is in the Branch Co. History books. From Calhoun Co. they sold the farm and bought another in Branch County, just south of Calhoun Co., MI.
Newman Elijah married Jane KEITH, daughter of Ozen KEITH. Ozen was living in Hillsdale County at this time ( Hillsdale is east of Branch Co.)
Newman and Jane COLE had son Archie W. COLE b 1868 in Calhoun Co.(who was my grandfather ).
What I really need to know, is:
1. Was William COLE b in New York ? Where ? When, I approximate c 1790-1800.
2. How do I find a birth place and birth certificate for the son Newman Elijah/Elisha COLE, if I'm not positive he was born in Herkimer Co., NY. ?
3. How do I find the parents of William COLE ?
Thanks for listening to one of my 'brick wall stories'.
Mary (Cole) Bickford in TX.

To John B, Maria, Tim, Grant and any other Cole descendants out there. I'm
getting ready to put up scanned photos on ofoto.com and if you would like to
take a look-see let me know. I have pictures of Andrew Jackson Cole and
Almira Serina VanGilder Cole, and family. Also I have 2 that I believe to be
Cole's and have no idea who. The pictures were taken in Batavia NY. Through
this ofoto you can purchase pictures and they are about 50 cents apiece. My
daughter has the photos yet with her of the graves if you would like those.
I can scan those later. My daughter has purchased some and the quality is
good.
John do you have any pictures of John R. and Laura Palmer? Maria is sending
me a photo of their gravesite.
Good day to you cousins out there---when ever we figure out which tree we
are hanging from!

Sorry about that: I believe that Robert was born in Kentucky, Morgan CO. I
have no idea where Anna was born or who her parents are. The letter I have
states that Robert and Anna's children were all born in Oklahoma, in or
around Mayes Co., near Pryor, Okla., then it says they all moved to Montana.

RE: {not a subscriber} 1929 RESTRICTED CHOCTAW CENSUS
REPEATING TO CORRECT URL
LIST ADMINISTRATORS: i AM NOT A MEMBER OF SOME OF THESE LISTS. PLEASE POST
THIS VERY IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Hi Fellow Researchers:
I found something very exciting recently on the microfilm. It was a worksheet
for a census of restricted Choctaws dated between 1929-1947.
It was exciting because it fills in gaps left between the 1920s census and
modern family records. It was 40 pages of microfilm with over 1,000 names.
And, it helps ease the long wait of the 1930 census which won't be out until
several more years.
What are restricted census? I didn't know either, but I found out this:
The U.S. Government regulated the financial affairs of "Restricted
Indians. " If you had 50% or more Indian Blood you were a "Restricted
Indian." From the book "INDIAN RECORDS" Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory
Final Rolls, Volume I, II, III (Choctaw by Blood) by Arlene LeMaster.
They records are from Compilation of Records from the Choctaw Nation,
Indian Territory microfilm r929.37665 O41 1976. Transcribed by Rusty Lang
with help from Maria.
The census are now up on my website at:
http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~impson
These join my other census, including 1885 ATOKA , BLUE , BOKTOLO, CEDAR,
JACKS FORK, TOWSON , WADE, KIAMITIA and SKULLYVILLE counties.
Allied families include: ADAMS, Allen, ANDERSON, Billy, BOHANNON ,Buff,
Burris, Byington, Carby, Carnes, Clark, Cobb, Cole, Cox, Cuzalina, DANENHOUR,
Driver, Evans, Faudree, FLETCHER, Flinchum, FOLSOM, Frazier, Freeman, FREENY,

Hello everyone,
I have noticed a considerable discussion taking place on the OSWEGO and COLE
lists regarding the COLE family in Oswego Co., and Onondaga Co., N.Y.
The discussion involved the following people:
Amanda Eliza Haskins Noble COLE, who died March 25, 1889 in Pulaski, N.Y.
Emma Gertrude COLE, born 31 May 1851 in Michigan, who married Frank Abiel
PLACE of the Town of Oswego around 1877, and their son, Ira Thorpe PLACE,
who was born in Oswego on December 6, 1879.
Nathan COLE, Jr., who married Lurana P. TEEPLE on March 26, 1861 in Fulton,
N.Y.
David Will COLE, born approx. 1798 in Oswego.
I have a number of COLE's from that area that I wish to add to the
discussion. They include:
Ella COLE, who married 29 June 1899, Euclid, N.Y., Alva M. PALMER, the son
of Andrew LOTT PALMER (1847-1935) and Samantha Almira SITTERLY (1849-1929).
Alva was born 8 November 1873 at Hannibal, N.Y. Alva and Ella removed to
Kentucky.
Evva Lena COLE, born 1861, died 24 June 1928, buried Butler-Savannah
Cemetery, South Butler, N.Y. She married 10 December 1878, Delbert Duane
CROFOOT, the son of Silas D. CROFOOT (1829-1902) and Harriet ELizabeth
PALMER (1835-1913). Delbert was born 14 July 1856, Michigan, died 13 August
1934, South Butler, N.Y., buried Butler-Savannah Cemetery, South Butler,
N.Y.
James R. COLE, born 1824, died 1900, buried in Pine Plains Cemetery, Clay,
N.Y. He married Laura J. PALMER, daughter of Nathaniel PALMER (1777-1853) &
Elizabeth LOTT (1781-1857). Laura was born on 23 May 1822 in Onondaga Co.,
N.Y., died in 1895, buried in Pine Plains Cemetery, Clay, N.Y. They had at
least three children:
i. Henry Lott (born about 1848-)
ii. Albert (born about March 1855)
iii. Nathan (?)
Research by Jan Teesdale has led me to believe that James R. COLE was James
Ransom COLE, the son of David Will COLE. David Will COLE had five children
born in the 1820's at Euclid, Onondaga Co., N.Y.: James Ransom, Margaret,
Nathan, Albert, and Andrew Jackson.
Lastly, I have a copy of a scrapbook that was put together by an ancestor
about four generations back. The scrapbook consists of articles and notices
about family members taken from various newspapers in and around Oswego
County, N.Y. Listed below are all the references to COLE's listed in the
scrapbook. Not all of the articles are dated, so I have approximated the
dates where ones were lacking.
(about 1895)
"Nathan COLE will soon move to Hannibal where he will reside in the future."
Hannibal (about 1895)
"Married, Sept. 29, by the Rev. J. Stallwood, Mr. Bert COLE of Hannibal and
Miss Flora Scott of Wolcott. The happy couple are keeping house with his
grandfather, James COLE. May joy and prosperity attend them."
"Mr. and Mrs. James Fox of Oswego spent Sunday with J. COLE."
Battle Street (about 1895)
"Mr. Albert COLE is rejoicing over arrival of a little son."
Hannibal (date is hard to read, probably either 1895 or 1905)
"Died December 19, Alta, baby daughter of Albert COLE, aged 1 year. The
baby slept with an older sister Lora Friday night. Upon awakening Saturday
morning she noticed it looked queer and taking hold of it and trying to
awaken it she found it dead. It is thought it was suffocated by being
covered too closely. The funeral was held Monday from the home."
Battle Street (March 1897)
"Clint Palmer of Phoenix, is visiting at James COLE's."
Hannibal (about 1897)
"Mr. and Mrs. M. Eno of Clay, are visiting at J. COLE's."
"Mrs. James COLE lies in a very critical condition. Her recovery is
considered doubtful."
Battle Street (March 1897)
"Fred COLE will work for Mr. Eno of Phoenix."
(about 1898)
"Miss Elsie Millier was given a surprise party last Thursday evening, eight
of her juvenile friends being present-Misses Maria Hohl, Allie Martin, Lucy
Snyder, Celia North, Viola COLE, Lena Feeley, Bertha Cottle and Bessie
Staddon. Games were indulged in before and after lunch."
Palmerville (12 Feb. 1900)
"Fred COLE spent Sunday ay Kay Kat."
Hannibal (27 Feb. 1900)
"Mrs. Burt COLE has been entertaining her sisters and their husbands, Mr.
and Mrs. C. Hollenback of Weedsport, and Mr. and Mrs. R. Smith of Fair
Haven, a few days."
Hannibal (about 1905)
"Nate COLE and wife of Phoenix spent a week with his father, James COLE."
Palmerville (about 1907)
"Albert COLE intends buying a large engine to run the stone crusher with."
(about 1911/1912)
"Died-at the home of Clare Crissy, Albert COLE of Fulton, after several
weeks illness. Funeral held Saturday."
(about 1915/1916)
"Married-COLE-HORN-At the M.E. parsonage, Sterling, April 23, Miss
Charlotte Horn of Martville to Loren COLE of Martville and formerly of
Cato."
Does anyone have any more information about the people listed here?
Hopefully this message will create more discussion that will help us sort
out this family.
John Bogdal
Seeking any information on ancestry of Dr. Clifford COLE, born in Abilene,
Kansas in 1881, married Bessie GARTON, died in Los Angeles about 1965. Dr.
Cole was a minister of the Disciples of Christ Church and wrote a syndicated
column for the Copley Newspapers entitled "Daily Pulpit." I believe his
mother's maiden name was BERNARD. Is anyone familiar with this family?
do you have birth and death dates for Samuel D House?

I do not know about this particular Nathan Cole. HOWEVER, the use of Sr./Jr.
DID NOT mean father and son. It merely meant there was another Nathan Cole
who lived in the area. To tell them apart, even if they were completely
unrelated, tney were called Sr (usually for older) and Jr ( usually for
younger). If there was very little difference in age, Sr. might mean the one
who has lived in the area the longest (a 47 year old might be called Sr
while a 50 year old new arrival might get the Jr. tag).
There is another problem here, as well. IF one of the people died and
another person of the same name moved into the area, the title Jr and Sr were
reapplied. So the two Nathan Jr. could be the same person or could be two
different people of the same name.

Group,
And anyone help me with children for the following couple?
Jacob Coile
Margaret Collup
married abt. 1760 in Augusta, VA
They had
Jacob Coil born 12 Nov 1768
My Jacob Cole was born 16 Nov 1767
These dates are incredibly close. In fact, on the sheet I have the last
numeral is scratched out and a 7 written beside the other three by the

Paula,
The Solomon Cole family who was in Laurens Co., SC before the end of
1700s came from Maryland. I have some of the pages from Maragret
Hollingshaus book 'The Cole Family from Maryland to Arkansas'. She was on
this list for a while, not sure now. The book is very good, but she said it
does have some errors which she found after the book was published.
Solomon's family came to Laurens from TN. They went to Carrol Co., Ga by
1830 or shortly after. William Cole who married Martha Mitchell was also
in Laurens, but I haven't been able to find his parents. He was included
as a son of Solomon in this book, but we think now he was probably a nephew.
There are no papers to indicate he was related to Solomon. He and his wife,
his stepson, Harrison Mitchell, and their children moved to Tuscaloosa, Al
where they died and are buried there. Some of their children or
grandchildren went on to other areas and Arkansas.
