I'm interested in corresponding via e-mail with anyone researching a Francis
Cole b. ? who may have migrated from VA and who died in Richmond County, NC,
1818.
Census records show three Francis Coles in VA 1790: one in Chesterfield Co.,
one in Essex Co. and one in Hampshire Co. From Index to the 1810 Census of
VA I find a Francis Cole in Amelia Co. And from VA Will Records Lancaster
Co. 1654-1702: Francis Cole, wife not named, daus Frances and Mary 1657/58.
Wondering if this last Francis Cole might be an ancestor of my Francis, who
married Elizabeth Watkins b. abt. 1762 VA.

Dear Margaret <bmcperk(a)hotmail.com>,
My heart did a flip when I read your message! Then after I checked,
I remembered that I haven't found early Cole ancestors who migrated
south. Gilbert went to Illinois in 1865 after his wife, Sallie, died and
he remarried there in 1866. I haven't found any of mine in Missouri.
At genweb<http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilgenweb/county.html> I've found great
genealogy help in several states. I was excited to find a list of
volunteers willing to do "look-ups"! Thru the Genweb I just this weekend
had a terriffic breakthru on my COLE surname in Whiteside Illinois with
the help of Bob Mosher, a volunteer!
It told me the age (19yr) of my Gilbert Cole when he left Gorham, NY and
moved to Ashtabula County, Ohio.
It told me he left Ohio after his wife died in 1865 and that he married
again within a year at age 53 on 9 Oct 1866. It told me his 2nd wife was
a lady 20 years younger than himself--33 yr old Louisa Sholes b. in VT
and that they were married at the home of her father, O Sholes. It told
me they were still living together & Gilbert's 18 yr old son Dudley Cole
is with them-on the 1870 Union Grove twp census. Louisa and Gilbert had
been married for 7 years when Gilbert died in Dec 1873, just before his
60th birthday. And it told me where he was buried and made it possible
for me to figure out his [exact] date of birth-which I've never had.
Well, I didn't mean to carry on so long! It's just so amazing!! Anyway,
Margaret, I'm sorry, but it doesn't look like we're connected. Maybe
later we will find a connection. But Hang in there!

There are two Bethuel Cole's in my line. I don't have much
information on either of them, but this is what I have.
Some of this data has been verified through records and
existing documents, but some is suspect: the marriage dates
of Bethuel, Jr's. children are questionable. There should
be more information available on Thomas McCague in Huron Co,
as well as on Bethuel Jr. and Attrusha. Be advised that not
all vital records in Norwalk, OH, have been transcribed
I don't have any information concerning Amy Cole -- is this
a nickname for her in later life? Could this be Amanda with
a second marriage?
I like to keep my information updated on this line and as
thorough as possible; please advise me of any corrections or
additions. I am anxious to hear from you.

Recently visited the Old Hurst Cemetery, located on the south
side of Crooked Creek, Marion County Arkansas. This early and very
large cemetery, of Pioneer families of Marion county is in desperate
need of attention. I posted a note on several family networks earlier
and wheels have been turning. Two very energetic and fine Hurst family
ladies have been going full steam on trying to get names together of
folk who will help with the care and maintenance of this cemetery. We
are also seeking those who are just interested in preserving the
cemeteries of early pioneer.
This pre Civil War cemetery has the early pioneers of this
area including: BAKER, COLE, GAINES, HALL, HURST, HARWELL, HORN, KERR,
LOVELL, MORLAND, PHILLIPS, REA, TREAT and WOOD. We need your help if
you can write a letter, if you can donate a few dollars or if you can
contact friends or family who will be willing to do these chores.
Our first task is to get a planning group together to talk
about a spring clean up, repairing the fence and organizing for a
permanent maintenance crew. If you live in the area we would love
to have you or some of your family on the planning team. When the
clean up day comes, even if you can't push a mower, you might be
able to help with sandwiches or sodas. We also need lots of folk
with brains to help with some of the paper work, etc.
We hope families and others who are interested in this
project will contact one of the following ladies:
Jerldine (HURST) McNeil
911 Spring St.
Mountain Home, AR 72653
870-425-1713
Cora (HURST) Tetrick
Fallen Ash Estates
Flippin, AR 72634
870-453-8482
These ladies are doing a great job in legal research and other
aspects of trying to recover this cemetery. Your support of their efforts is
desperately needed.
Regards
Don Ott

My gr grandmother Addie Edith Barrett was born 6 Sep 1842 in Highland,

but it might have been before 1860.

Dear Chris,
My Cole family lived east of Cleveland, Ohio before and after 1865.
My father's brother Kenneth Roosevelt Cole ran an Aviation School on (?)
Mayfield Road, in ? "Heights" in Cleveland. Kenneth was married 17 Apr
1925 Helen Inez Foshay. Kenneth was living in Cleveland, Ohio in Jan
1929 when his brother, Gilbert Stowe Cole died in Painesville, Ohio.
My cousin, Bob Cole of Circleville, Ohio passed on copies of his
research to me. His documentation says that the information about
Gilbert's family came from the "History of the Western Reserve", Charts,
the "History of Ohio" and "South Cemetery Records" in Colebrook,
Ashtabula County, Ohio where my grandparents, great grand- and gr gr
grandparents lived having moved there from New York about 1830.
Maybe those books about the History of theat area would give you
some leads.
I just had a GREAT breakthru yesterday on my gr gr grandfather,
Gilbert Cole. So don't give up! Does anything here help?
Hang in there!
Mary Kay COLE Ward<mksroots(a)juno.com> Richmond,VA
Dear Dennis,
Your names don't match any of my Coles but several items in your
posting are coincidential to my COLE. I suppose Franklin, Ohio and
Illinois are coincidences. My ggrandfather, Gilbert Cole, the husband of
Sarah "Sallie" Owen, died in Whiteside County, Illinois in 1872. He may
have moved to Illinois from Ohio after his wife died in 1865 but I'm not
sure when he moved there nor why nor with whom. I'll have to look at the
map and see if Whiteside Co., ILL is near Franklin County, Illinois.
Sallie had died in 1865 in Colebrook, Ashtabula Co., Ohio, 7 years
before Gilbert Cole died in Illinois. Their 4 children were all born in
Colebrook: William Franklin Cole b. 14 Dec 1839, Mary, Dudley, and Cyrus
Owen Cole b. 1845 and died in 1849.
Gilbert and Sallie however came to Ohio from Ontario County, NY
though- not from KY. I don't know of any of my Coles being in KY.
Good luck in your search, Dennis. Hang in there!

I am searching for information about Alson Cole, b. 3-25-1854 in
Walkerton, IN, d. 1-12-1916 (where??). He married Carrie (possibly
Withers) on 1-15-1880 (again where??) I found them listed in the 1900
census of Nebraska with children: Belle, Carrie, John B., Alson B.,
Clark C., Alva H., Ella M., & Jesse P. All of the children were born in
NE except for John, born in Missouri. Any further information at all
would be appreciated.
