I am searching for the Parents and/or siblings of my great grand mother,
Nancy May KOHL. Apparently Nancy was b. in Centerville, Linn Co, KA, abt
1868. Married William Boyd Lynch abt 1885. Children: Ernest Elgin Lynch,
b. 1886, Centrville, Linn Co, KA. Nancy divorced Boyd and married Henry
Edward Kline (marriage date unknown). Nancy (Kohl) and Henry Kline had four
children: Henry Marquis Kline and Harvey Tyrell Kline (twins) b.1898,
Albert Homer Kline b. 1900 and William Clarence Kline b. 1903 all in
Centerville, Linn Co, KA. The family moved from Kansas to California where
Nancy latter died in 1949.
Any information on Nancy May Kohl, her parents or siblings would be much
appreciated.
Sincerely
Ed Lynch
Sorry to have sent the Descendents of Thomas Cole without any note to go
along. My keyboard froze up and I put the lineage in my out box for later,
only it went too soon. I think this was supposed to be in reply to someone
looking for an Ezekial COLE. As you can see there is one here in teh proper
time frame. Contact me for any questions.
Debbie
There are two of them. Try the GrannyGrump one first

First, attempt to look up the CD # yourself from the Family Finder Index or
the Master Name Index. Try one of these links:
<A HREF="http://www.familytreemaker.com/ffitop.html">Family Tree Maker's
Genealogy Site: FamilyFinder Index</A>
<A HREF="http://www.ancestry.com/">Ancestry.com Connecting Families
Through the World Wide Web</A>
The reason I suggest you do it yourself, is when I was doing lookups on these
"locator" CDs, when you put in a name, the program checks for all possible
variations including initials only and does not discriminate by birthdate, nor
does it crossreference spouses, children, location, parents etc. If you do it
yourself, you are less likely to get an email with a report attached that is
58 pages in length. (If its just a few hits, I may sort it myself to be more
accurate, but I don't have time to sort through 58 pages.)
Once you have the CD #, go to Granny Grumps to find a volunteer who owns that
CD. And please, follow the instructions -- put the CD Title in the Subject
line (eg: WFT CD# 8) -- when volunteers get literally dozens of requests per
day each, this helps them sort their requests instead of having to change CDs
with each message. You can put your specific request in the body of your
message. My suggestion here is to provide as much information as you can,
such as
John J Doe, b: ca 1812 in KY d: ?? m: Nancy ??? 1875
children: Thomas, Rebecca, Johnson
This in itself still isn't much information, but its the pieces that we use to
determine if this is really the person you are looking for or if it is a waste
of your time. Personally, I send a 4-6 generation ascendancy or descendancy
report. Most persons won't send the entire GEDCOM - there is some conflict
with interpretation of the copyright infringement legal mumble jumble. So,
most feel better safe than sorry.
Anyway, the Granny Grump URL link is:

One last bit of info -- allow at least 1 week, but if you haven't heard
anything in that time, feel free to check back with the person. I had some
people who waited on me about 2 weeks because my dinosaur crashed and I had to
get it baling wired & chewing gummed back together. Also, once in while, with
all the GARBAGE mail being received (on AOL, I receive an average of 6 SPAM
mails on my screen name that I use strictly for this purpose, and it isn't the
one you're looking at), it is possible that your message inadvertantly got
deleted with the SPAM.
Good luck.

Hi All..This is a new posting........To all COLE seekers.....
COLE, William George, wife Sarah (Larnder)COLE and several
children sailed from London Docks on 3 JUNE 1863 aboard the
ship SS Amazon for New York City and arrived approx. 23 July
1863. The departure of this ship was featured in one of the lead-
ing London papers at the approx. date of sailing. The article was
a write upon the passengers and their customs as they went about
to embark and sail...They were converts to the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter Day Saints. (Mormon). They had signed for passage
to the USA and to go, when directed to Utah.
The passenger list of the SS Amazon upon arriving at New York
City verified by the port authority that William George COLE and his
family were aboard and disembarked..( This can be verified by
archieves of the University of Memphis, Library and also by
LDS Archieves,
Question......What transpired between their landing in New
York until they arrived in Great Salt Lake Valley unti they
settled in Logan,Cache County, Utah?
This information is vital to complete a three book Family
Tree......All help and information will be appreciated.

Can anyone help me to learn more about Lydia (Krom) Cole, bp. 31 October
1738 dau of Cornelius and Rebecca (Schoonhover) Krom? She m. Daniel
Cole (Cool), who died in Minisink, Orange Co. NY in 1779. They had a
son, William, who is my husband's ancestor, and another, Cornelious,
whom I have been unable to trace.
When and where did Lydia die? What is known about Cornelious? Were
there other children? This Cole family apparently left few records, so I
would be grateful for any information. In turn, I can share data on
William and his descendants.
With thanks,
Diane Broadhurst

I have a Western Union telegram sent to my grandmother Inez Cole Holloway from
J. R. Young (an apparent cousin) in 1918. This is the text. There are
numerous names mentioned, CUNNINGHAM, GREENE, NASH, WOODS, BOURLAND,SMITH,
BEEKS, WEST and MABRY. This is not edited except for a few punctuations to
clarify. I hope this helps some of you out there--please let me know of your
knowledge of these people-especially JR Young and poor Mrs. Cunningham (she
really got raked over the coals!!) Nancy in Roanoke VA
Aberdeen,
Mississippi, June, 26th 1918
Mrs. Inez Holloway
Tupelo, Mississippi
I will come up first opportunity I have but think
will be over a month. I took up telegraph work again because they had no one
to take this place and asked me to help them out. Men are scarce and hard to
get someone to let me off even for a day. I sometimes get the postal operator
on Sunday, and presume it will be on that day that I will have to come.
I have never seen Mrs. CUNNINGHAM, I have heard of
her. Guess she gets that from the GREENEs, they were tainted with haughtiness
though cousin Jim was a fine old man. He has often talked with me about your
father and loved to talk about relatives.
We haven't but one child a girl though she is 25
years old. She also plays at the Baptist church the pipe organ. So it seems
that you must be a Baptist. My mother was and so far as I know as far back as
I can learn about the family they were of that faith. The COLE family I have
heard came from Holland, they were Protestants four or five brothers of them.
They settled in South Carolina. I stood not long ago at the grave of
grandfather and grandmother COLE at the Old Baptist Church near Tuscaloosa. I
found them buried as my mother had said in one vault.
Great grand father COLE died and was buried on his farm near Tuscaloosa at
what is now Cottondale . The big spring on his farm I am told still runs. He
was buried there. They started building a rail road which ran over his grave.
The wrote my grandmother asked her to take his up. In the meantime
grandmother COLE died. They took her remains to Tuscaloosa and dug up
grandfathers remains, they found him to have been petrified. My uncle, John
W ANDREWS, now dead told my mother that he was as natural as the day he was
buried, that even his shirt and in fact all of his clothes were perfectly
sound. They buried both in the same grave. The tombstone said he was 85
years old, grandmother 89. I found some years back a Mrs Nash, her first
husband was Capt William COLE who was killed in war. He was a brother of my
grandmother and your grandfather. Mrs NASH married the third time a COLE but
not related to her first husband she wrote me. I do not know if she is
living, she told me all I know about the COLE family, and I have forgotten
nearly all of it was many years ago, she had several sons and daughters, but
they were like what you said about Mrs CUNNINGHAM . Her daughter married a
Doctor WOODS, and I boarded with them while out working on Southern road.
Yes it does look strange we have never before got in
correspondence. But it was this way. I was aboy when your father visted us
working soon afterward on what is now the Frisco, I was tied down with them
as agent here for 26 years. I went off very seldom and never had a peaceful
hour of leisure while in their employ. I was out in Texas, met there Mr
SMITH from Chickasaw County a lawyer and he told me I saw a man here
sometime ago a lawyer named COLE from Lee County (MS). I asked if it was Wiley
COLE and he said yes. I thought somehow that he moved to Texas and had this
more fully confirmed later when I attended a lodge meeting at Guntown and all
members of Saltillo were there. I asked a prominent man from Saltillo if he
knew any COLES living there, he replied no. So I thought you had all left. I
thought or understood from Mr BOURLANDS letter that your mother had married,
as he did not tell me who to , I wrote him and told him to please hand her my
first letter. Also the one sent him then and ask her to write me. I never
heard a word.
I happened to be talking to Mr BEEKS and he said he had a
daughter living at Tupelo and that she had met you an I told him that I had
your name and would write you.
As far as any one might trace the COLE and ANDREWS family I
don't think he would ever find anything against any of them that he would be
ashamed of. I am proud of my ANDREWS and COLE bllod, God never made any
better blood. I have living one brother Hugh now married, a sister Mrs WEST.
My brother lives here, my sister lives now at Winona. She is now visiting us
here. My mother died in 1891. She was fond of her relatives and how often I
have heard her speak of Wiley and John COLE and always tell they were her
double first cousins. My grandfather ANDREWS, your grandmother and Aunt Stacy
GREENE were brothers and sisters.
I have no doubt passed your house often. Yes, last time I
was in Tupelo that was in the spring. I passed there in car, going down to
Mr MABRY's. He called me up, told me he had talked with you. I will write
before I come. And you will not find any of this branch of the family like
Mrs CUNNINGHAM.
your cousin, J R YOUNG

I recently learned that I was descended from Isiah Cole through his daughter Mary, wife of Rufus Edson. I am interested in learning more about this line.Does anyone have information on this family?
Hi:
I am a new subscriber, and am looking for info on the above lady.
Although her maiden name was Speakman, I've been unable to track her and
am hoping the Cole in her name was named for her Mother.
Mary was born ca. 1762 in NC or VA, she mar. James James of Hamilton
Parish Fauquier Co. VA, born 1760 and died 1803 in Barren Co. KY.
I believe Mary died ca. 1820 and is poss. buried at High Point Baptist
Church Cemetary, called the James-Ratcliff Cem. in Moniteau Co. MO>
James and Mary lived on a land grant of 100 acres on the east Fork of
the Big Barren River in what was then Greene Co. KY. James died in 1803
leaving Mary with small children Mary's sons came to MO around 1826, but
it is not known whether Mary was alive at that time and accompanied
them. James James and Mary had the following children:
i. John James who mar. Rachel Bray
ii. Abraham James who mar. Elizabeth Hall Scott
iii. Lettie James who mar. Caleb Kelly
iv. James James who mar. Sarah Bray
v. MaryAnn James who mar. ??? Grider
vi. Betsey James who mar. Daniel Wray.
Does anyone have a Cole in their line that may connect to the Speakman
line?
Thanks in advance, I've hit a brick wall.

June, have you checked the Kansas Heritage Server at
http://www.ukans.edu/heritage/heritage_main.html/ yet for inforamtion on
your Cole line? There's a lot of information there on early immigrants to
Kansas, especially those who came before 1885. I helped put on the WWW the
huge book, History of the State of Kansas, ed. by William G. Cutler, pub.
1883, which has lots of little biographical sketches on the early
immigrants. Almost of the chapters had to be typed, because the print was
too small to be scanned. There are also other scanned books online, and
many many people have submitted the names of their ancestors to be included
in what's called the Kansas Pioneer list (I think), and you can contact
these people via their email addresses. Anyway, it's a good source for
information about early pioneers in Kansas. Good luck.
