Ira and cousins!
Do you know where I could find more information on Susanna Lindsay born
September 29, 1812, daughter of General Jesse Cole and Priscilla
Ficklin?
I know many of the Lindsay's moved to Missouri. She married a Mr.
Armstrong and I am at a dead end there. Susannah died nearor in St.
Joseph, MO.
They had 6 children and one of them is my ancestor. It has to be one of
the boys. I believe Susanna is a grandmother to mother to William E.
Armstrong born Abt. 1850. Most likely a grandmother as no William is
mentioned among her six children unless she had him later.
There children are Carrie, ANgie, Susie, Lillie, HARDIN, RICHARD.
I am assuming Hardin or Richard is the father of William E. Armstrong.
William married Mary Jane Montgomery.
Do any of you know of a Hardin or Richard Armstrong?
ALso, do any of you have any backgroung information of Priscilla Ficklin
wife of Gen Jesse Cole???
Any help would be appreciated!
Thank you and Blessings!
Kathleen

I am new to this list. My gr-gr-grandmother was Celia (Sealy) Cole, born
abt. 1800.
Some records say she was born in Dade Co, GA. Others say White Co, TN.
I think her parents were James Cole, b. abt 1768 and Elizabeth Isom of
Wyeth, VA. One
record I found said her father was John Cole of White Co, TN.
I know Celia's brother was William Ishom Cole, marr. Lovina Clark.
Celia married
Stephen Naylor abt. 1826 in GA. I have lots about their descendants who
went to TX.
If anyone knows of records on her parents, I would be very grateful to
have that and willing to share what I have.
Thanks for any help,
Dorothy

I often use tags like this to indicate the category of a message. That
doesn't mean I require, or even expect, you to do so. Old-timers, prepare
to hit that DELETE key. The following is for any of our newer members who
haven't yet discovered the wonders of RootsWeb's Surname Lists.....
The URL is
http://rootsweb.com
This takes you to the main page.
Bookmark it, 'cause you'll surely want to return to explore other features.
At the top of the page, you'll find a clickable menu. Select "Searches".
That will take you to the search engine, where the first choice is the
Roots Surname List. When you click on it, you'll get another menu, where
you'll probably want to select "Search by name". You'll then be prompted
to enter the surname you wish to search for.
The search will return a list of submitters of that surname, with each
one's time span and locations.
Click on any that look interesting, to see a full list of that person's
surnames. When you find someone who's searching several of the surnames
in a branch of your family, in the same time-frame and locations -- you've
probably found a long-lost cousin. In most cases, the search gives you
both e-mail and snail-mail address.
Enjoy!

While attempting to sort out the COLEs of Obion Co., TN, Dorothy Grisham
and I have run across some that neither of us can [yet] claim.
On the 1830 census for Obion Co., the household of Samuel COLE included
1 male 20-30
1 female 20-30
I found this information on the TNGenWeb page, so it has been doubly
transcribed. If you recognize this man, please respond to the list -- I'm
hoping some of the "unclaimed" COLEs will be the key to reuiniting
scattered cousins.
This Samuel COLE would have been the right age to be the unidentified son
of John Henry COLE shown on the 1830 census, but that could have simply
been an error concerning the age of my GGGgrandfather, James Madison COLE.
He could also belong to an as-yet-unidentified family....

I am looking for any information on this line of Coles....John COLE, d.
July 27, 1849 married a woman named Rachel ?, d. Aug 28, 1856. We believe
John was the father of a A.T. COLE. I would like to find out the names of
the siblings of A.T. Cole. A.T. died in a military hospital at the birth of
his youngest son John Marion Cole. Eliza gave birth to him on the ground
right outside "Richmond Union Army Prison Hospital". (I wonder if this
would have made A.T. a confederate soldier in a prison hospital, or a Union
soldier who happened to be in the Prison Hospital....? Something to think
about....
A.T. married a Indian woman named Eliza and the childrens names and dates
are listed in a family bible.
Sarah J. Cole b 10 Feb 1850 d 22 Oct. 1871 married John Henry Burris
Richart T. Cole b O6 June 1852 d 25 Feb 1875 married M.M. Simpson
Mary E. Cole b 30 Cot. 1856 m Jacob Hart Burris d at Twin Falls Idaho
victim of the "Range Wars" date unknown.
Zarila V. Cole b 07 Aug 1859 married twice #1 unknown, #2 U.B.Ehhridege
John Marion Cole b 01, April, 1862 VA/MO d 23, Aug 1923 CA married #1 Emma
Jane Burris,
#2 Mary Matilda Garner,
#3 Zelpha Bowman\Brown
I would like to know if anyone would have any information on any of these
people, particularly John Cole and Rachel.
We believe that somewhere down the line of John Cole the mother of Jesse
James came into the line Zarlida Cole. Making her cousin to some degree to
the children of A.T. and Eliza's children.....
Any information on any of the above would be most kind....thank you,

I have some undocumented information from a distant relative's family
sheets about Dorothy Cole and wonder if anyone could help me make a
solid connection.
Documented by Barbour Collection:
November 1709, Dorothy Cole married Benoni S. Plumb in Middletown,
Hartford, Connecticut. She died in Middletown in 1713.
Everything else is undocumented:
Born July 10, 1687 in Farmington, Hartford, Connecticut, father was
Samuel. Some World Family Trees gave Samuel's father as John who was
the son of James Cole; no dates were given.
I now have data from "The Early Genealogies of the Cole Families in
America" by Frank T. Cole. There is a Samuel (John, James) with a wife
Mary. Samuel died March 16, 1693. They had a child named Dorothy. Is
there anyone on this list who can link this Dorothy with my Dorothy?
