Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

Dear listers,
This is a friendly reminder to please make sure your anti-virus software is
up to date. We should all be doing a DAILY virus scan on our computers.
Although you cannot get a virus via Rootsweb mail lists, if you are in the
address books of list members, family and friends, you may receive a virus.
You can do a free Virus Scan online at:
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
The free scan certainly does not "replace" having anti-virus software
installed and "up-to-date" on your computer.
There is another Virus that is spreading rapidly and I urge you to please be
careful with emails containing attachments, even from people that you know.
If you are not sure, ask the person if they have sent you an email
attachment before you open it.
Some of these Viruses "fake" the sender and the subject line may look like
it is from a mail list. Remember, a Rootsweb mail list message will never
have an attachment.
Please read the info at the link below on the latest threat. A lot of it may
seem like garbbly-gook and it is long, but read it anyway, especially the
sections about what subject lines and file extensions this virus uses. It
may save you a headache later.

Please do not respond to this message or begin a virus discussion on the
list. Thanks.

Listers,
With vacation season quickly approaching some of you may want to temporarily
unsubscribe from the mail lists you are on or change from "list mode" to
"digest mode".
If you are not sure which lists you are subscribed to, visit Password
Central located at http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ and follow the
instructions.
I have included subscribe and unsubscribe instructions below :
IMPORTANT: Change the word "LISTNAME" to the actual name of your list. e.g.
for the Halifax, N.S. list, LISTNAME-L-request(a)rootsweb.com would change to
CAN-NS-HALIFAX-L-request(a)rootsweb.com or for the POWER surname list it would
change to POWER-L-request(a)rootsweb.com
UNSUBSCRIBE
To unsubscribe from "LIST mode" send a message to
LISTNAME-L-request(a)rootsweb.com with only the word unsubscribe in the
subject line.
To unsubscribe from "DIGEST Mode" send a message to
LISTNAME-D-request(a)rootsweb.com with only the word unsubscribe in the
subject line.
SUBSCRIBE
To subscribe to "LIST mode" send a message to
LISTNAME-L-request(a)rootsweb.com with only the word subscribe in the subject
line.
To subscribe to "DIGEST Mode" send a message to
LISTNAME-D-request(a)rootsweb.com with only the word subscribe in the subject
line.
CHANGING MAIL MODES
Unsubscribe from the one you are subscribed to and then subscribe to the
mode you wish to receive. If you have any trouble, just drop me a note and I
will help.
POSTING ADDRESS
LISTNAME-L(a)rootsweb.com - This is the posting address whether you are
subscribed in mail mode or digest mode. Do not use the "request" address to
post messages, it won't deliver to the list. That address is for
subscribe/unsubscribe requests only.
If your mail box becomes full and your messages start bouncing, you will
automatically be unsubscribed after a set number of bounces and you will
need to subscribe again to the list.
