Hi Laurene,
I have added some to your list.
Parents of John b 1736
William (1) Coaldwell b 1695, in England. ( Often referred to as "Father Bill" ) Kidnapped 1711.
Impressed into British Navy by Navy press Gang. ( Early version of recruitment
offices) A cousin (now Deceased) who had done extensive research, told me that
the story was, that Bills mother who was widowed and wealthy was being courted by
a man who Bill did not want her to marry and the suitor paid the press gang to
kidnap Bill to get him out of the way.
William deserted at Boston, Mass., 1712. Married Jane, daughter of Jonathan and
Jane Jordan, at Stoughton, Mass. Removed to Connecticut about 1745 and from
Bridgeport, Connecticut to Horton, Nova Scotia, 1758. Died at Gaspereau, Nova
Scotia, October 28, 1802, aged 107 years.
Children of William and Jane Coaldwell
William, b Nov 20, 1734 Married Naomi Noyce, 1755. Died 1756. No Children
John, b 1736.
Jeddediah, b September 13, 1738
Jemimi, b June 27, 1740
Jane, b July 5, 1742. Married Nicholas Fielding
Ebenezer, b 1744.
Jonathan, b 1746.
Jacob, b 1748.
Mary, born 1750. Married Gilbert Forsythe.
Eliphalet, b 1752.
I have more information on Father Bills family and plan to update it soon. I am
also thinking of updating the records of the descendents of William 1 beyond
1911 which is where the last record ends.
Best regards,
Doug Coldwell

I still haven't found anyone by that name yet. Laurene
Hello List,
I understand that due to census takers and registrars not understanding local dialects, the name COLDWELL has sometimes been changed to COWDELL.
My husband comes from a long line of COWDELLs in Nottinghamshire (UK) but the founder of this line came from elsewhere, and I don't know where. So I am looking for Samuel COWDELL or COLDWELL, born about 1808 give or take a bit, who apparently went to Nottinghamshire as a child or young man and settled in Bingham which is a few miles outside Nottingham itself. There are no others of that name who could be parents or brothers/sisters, so he must have gone alone. He married a local girl and was a chimney sweep by profession. He is present on the 1841 census, which doesn't give birthplace, but died before the 1851 census.
If anyone has a spare Samuel who disappeared from his birth area in the early 1800's - or indeed if anyone has chimney sweeps in their ancestry - I would love to hear from you. And for anyone who can relate to Samuel or to his decendants in Bingham, I have lots of information on the Bingham family from Samuel's time to the present day which I will gladly share.
Good luck everyone,
Joan Cowdell (now in Wales)
