I have not done much to my Tree in a couple of years. I ran into a deadend. James B was my G-G Grandfather, I know this because of census records which I based most of my research on. My G Grandfather was George W Colding (The W for Walter). There was also a George Washington Colding who was a first cousin to my grandfather Solon S Colding. I to have read these publications and am confused some what. There are too many Blanchard's Thomas's and Samuel's. There are 4 Thomas's just in my fathers Brothers and their kids. I will just speculate that the B in James name stood for Blanchard. Hope that didn't confuse anyone. Sorry I don't have an answer however I do beleive he was the son on Blanchard and could have had a brother named Blanchard also
that would explain the Blanchard JR
Butch

I hope you are able to untangle this mess and confusion.
I have found two self-published secondary sources:
"This Bryan Family" by Judith Presnell Canant includes Colding genealogy in South Carolina. The only copy that I have seen is in the Polk County Historical and Genealogical Library in Bartow.
"Calhoun and Related Families" by Samuel S. Gibbons includes the Colding family in Florida in great detail, but does not provide any sources. Copies were found in the Alachua and Orange County Libraries.

I'm a descendent of George W. Colding, son of James B. Colding (b. 1797). I'm still having a hard time with the parents of James B. The only official document I've seen (that names family members) is Blanchard Colding's will (witnessed by a Thomas Colding in 1790) that mentions his son Henry.
Different people have different parents for James B. I believe there's confusion because there might be a Blanchard Sr & Jr, multiple Henry's and James', and a couple of Ann's as wives. The birth dates are within 10 to 20 years so it looks like it's within only a couple of generations.
I've seen Henry (b1755, married to Ann Beckwith) as the father of James B.; and Blanchard ?Sr. (b1731, married to Temperence Ann Dell) as the father of Henry.
I've also seen Thomas (b.1773, married to Ann Nancy Dell) as the father of James B.; and Blanchard ?Jr. (b1755, married to Ann Gibbons) as the father of Thomas.
Is it possible that it's Blanchard Sr (1731), Blanchard Jr (1755), Thomas (1773), then James B. (1797)?
I'm not sure where Henry (1755) comes into play.
Anyway, I ran into this confusion a few years ago and put on the back burner. Now I'm at it again. Any help would be great. Thanks!
