My further thoughts consider that Mary Ann Colclough and John Mercier maybe my 4xgreat grandfather John Colclough Mercier's grandparents, suggesting a missing generation.
Mary Ann Colclough and John Mercier had 9 children from what I can see, of which four boys: -
John Colclough;
Abel;
William; and
George.
I don't wish to throw in a red herring, but one of these could be my 4xggrandfathers father???
If anyone could shed any light on this, it would be appreciated.

Any assistance would be much appreciated.
I have recently come across my 4xgreat grandfather John Colclough Mercier. I am particularly intrigued by him as he was an artisit (as was his son Charles who has a couple of portraits in the National Portraits Gallery in London). However, after some Google searches I have found a John Colclough Mercier who has a long line dating back to the tudor period including a Sir Anthony Colclough, an officer in Henry VIII's army who owned Tintern Abbey in Ireland.
I cannot see John Colclough Mercier being a very popular name and would like to link the two lineages together. The information I have on John Colclough Mercier is that he was born circa 1813 in Ireland. He died in 1864 in Anglesey, Wales.
If the two John Colclough Merciers are one of the same, this would suggest that his mother would have been 59 years of age when she gave birth to John (Mary Ann Colclough, born circa 1759, married to a John Mercier).
Any information would be very welcome.
Regards,
Christian McCale

I am looking for any information on my great grandmother May Cartlidge-I believe she was born between 1880 and 1890 in the staffordshire area, her birth name was possiibly May Colclough and she may have had siblings that were adopted or fostered. In 1910 she was living in Burslem , staffordshire and married a William Greatbatch in 1915. William is believed to have died in the first world war before their first child was born. Any info on May would be greatly appreciated.
