Hi Folks,
I thought it would be worthwhile pointing out that the Prince William Reliquary has posted the recovered will of Alexander Sinclair (will dated 31 Dec 1748, Probate 23 Jan 1748/49). Alexander's daughter, Sarah, married Robert C. Colclough, son of Benjamin Colclough.
See Boogher's Overwharton Parish Register:
"Cockley, Robert. Married Sarah Sinclair, September 21, 1740".
There are a couple of things of note. Firstly, Alexander Sinclair names his daughter Sarah, and also names another daughter Mary (among other children), making it very improbable that the Sarah who married Robert Colclough had the middle name of Mary (where does this notion come from)?
Secondly, Alexander Sinclair names his daughter as "Sarah Culslaw the wife of Robert Culslaw". This is some indication that some people (perhaps Alexander Sinclair only) pronounced the second "c" in Colclough with the soft "s" sound. Of course the marriage record indicates others pronounced it "Cockley". So add another to the growing list of ways to pronounce the name.
For those interested in the record, see the reliquary (Vol. 6, No. 1 - (January 2007)):

Best,
Gregg Bonner
