Hi, does female DNA have to be from an all-female line, mother to mother to mother? I have tried to read all that stuff but it isn't as easy as genealogy :-)

I am a descendant of Jeremiah Colclo who married Sally/Sarah Woods in Hardy County Virginia Jan 21 1805.
----------
I have that taking place in Moorefield, the county seat.
Hardy Co. became part of WV in 1863.
I have been unable in 25 years to find another Coclo b before Jeremiah who spells the name the same. Therefore I am thinking that the name may be a contraction of Colclough.
----------
I have this Jeremiah as a son of
Benjamin Edmund Coakley (and possible wife Elizabeth Wood). I hadn't followed him further to find the unusual Colclo spelling you mention. The County clerks tended to write what they heard, not exactly how it was spelled in the old country and especially if the IMMIGRANTS were illiterate.
My family descends from Jeremiah's brother Elijah who married Christiana Crofus. Elijah died in the Hampshire/Mineral Co. area of WV/VA and the family moved on to Ritchie Co WV/WV and all assumed the name Cokeley there.
One of Benjamin Edmund Coakley's later wives is Sarah Dale. I see many children and descendants of that family.
Benjamin Edmund had another marriage or two and ended up in Washington, Tyrrell Co, NC.
Benjamin Edmund Coakley's father is the immigrant Jeremiah Coakley. One of our extended family has his trunk. I can not verify a connection to the Colclough
side in Ireland so far. One rootsweb record claims Jeremiah's birth c1715 in Ireland but I can't confirm. Info on the early generations is certainly fuzzy, especially about the wives.

The name commemorated in the middle of my name here is pronounced "Coke-LEE" by those in Harrisville, Ritchie Co VA/WV where this Cokeley branch settled. Others in Ohio and old Virginia and those a few generations earlier in my own line are Coakley. I'm still trying to connect to Colclough in Ireland through the immigrant Jeremiah Coakley/Colclough who lived near Norfolk VA c1750 and son Benjamin Edmund Coakley who had several wives.
For a couple of years, I lived near "Clough Pike" in Anderson Twp, Hamilton Co OH. That is pronounced "Cluff" by the locals.
