Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hi Folks,
We now have our third DNA result back. Please see the project webpage, which
is here:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gbonner/colcloughdna/
There are no perfect matches yet, as one might expect from three samples
with no prior reason to expect to be related. Each sample is fairly
genetically close to the other two (3 or 4 mutations total). But this is not
close enough to have been the product of shared descent, at least not in the
last 1,000 years or so.
We will continue to press on with the project, and I will continue to
recruit. This project will be a success - - it is only a matter of time. I
am sure that you are all aware that COLCLOUGH (and COAKLEY and COKELEY,
etc.) is a rare surname, and thus it is important to get samples from every
male of the surname who is even remotely interested or willing. The
resolving power of the technique depends almost entirely on sample size. So
please help the project by participating if you are a COLCLOUGH (or spelling
variant thereof) male, or help by convincing a COLCLOUGH male to participate
if you are not.
I give a big thanks to these three pioneers who have provided their samples
for the project. While the project was still embryonic, they got the ball
rolling, knowing there was practically no chance of a quick DNA match...and
helped lay the groundwork for all that is to come. I really appreciate you
guys :)
I am happy to try to answer any questions anyone may have.
Best,
Gregg Bonner
