Dear Listers,
In John Bennett Boddie's "Historical Virginia Genealogies", page 85
---
On April 1, 1722, Edward Humston and Edward Humston, Jr. witnessed a deed of
John and Rachel Colclough to Benjamin Colclough (Bk. 1722-28, p. 86).
---
Why would John Colclough and Rachel deed to Benjamin Colclough if Rachel was
Benjamin's wife? Is Boddie in error? I realize that Benjamin's father might
be John, but then who would the Rachel be? If my guesses are right, John
Colclough, the son of Benjamin would not have been born until after 1722, so
a simple accidental name switch doesn't seem likely.
Can someone help me with this? This and a few other things are making me
wonder about the placement of the Benjamin and John Colcloughs, and all the
wives.
Cheers,
Gregg
This is a neat site. It has digitized maps, photographs, documents, and
has searchable databases. It now has a Land Records searchable database.
Happy Hunting,
