Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Deah,
Get a hold of yourself woman. That crash has you repeating yourself.
I've received this email three times now. I'm not trying to be critical,
just a little humorous. I think through all of this mass confusion and
chaos, you'll need some of that. I can't try to say I know what it's
like and hope to never go through a system crash. I'm having enough to
deal with just to get past a word processing program that doesn't seem to
have all of its files loaded when I need to use it. Hang in there.

Whew,
Deah, I wouldn't want to be in your shoes. I can't even begin to imagine
what you're going through. I try as best I can to backup everything I
have beyond my utility programs on disks. Hope you're doing the same
thing. I got this one ok. What I have to do is get myself subscribed on
the lists I had been on through another email address. Hang in there and
just relax, it will all come together in a little while. Shahid

Thank you Shahid. It has been intersting! Fortunately, some of my lists although somewhat affected by the crash, were not as affected as some of the others. I really came through better than a lot of them. I would just hate to run out of something to do. LOL!
Right now one of my biggest tasks is to get a bunch of things filed so I can find them. ..sigh. Maybe that is why I posted a note on the door to my little room here that says....WARNING! Maniac at work! LOL. Although frustrating at times, I love it!
Best to you,
Deah
At the following website I found a listing of people of the COLCLOUGH
name dating in the 1500s in England. I can't seem to go to the home
page and don't understand the notations for references. Has anyone been
to this site?
http://members.fortunecity.com/chtii/colclough/app2.htm
Am going through some copies of information I just received from a sister. There are some pages from "Saint Paul's Parish Register." Can somene tell me where that was?
On the pages I am finding the following:
M. Joel Stripling and Hester Colclough, September 25, 1723.
Note: We have known him as Joel Stribling.
B. Colclough, son of Joel and Hester Stribling. (torn and mutilated), circa 1728-1729
Note: now here it is spelled with the b And I am wondering about the torn and mutilated???? Can someone shed more light on this. I take it to be in reference to the child. And I'm wondering how severe? Just kind of curious. Colclough was one of my ancestors, that is who I am supposed to be descended from.
B. Hester, daugher of Joel and Hester Stribling, April 5, 1732.
B. Bradford, son of joel and Hester Stribling, January 11, 1735/36
B. Mary, daughter of Joel and Hester Stribling , November 4, 1738
Note: It says that Joel died March 19, 1737/8. If it was in 37, would have been very shortly after Hester became pregnant with Mary.
D. Joel Stribling, son of Joel and Hester Stribling September 27, 1744
M. Hester Stribling and Thomas Lewis Parrat, April 16, 1744. (must have been young Hester???)
M. Cochley (Colclough) Stribling and Mary Hodge, October 6, 1749.
B. John Colclough Stribling, son of Colclough and Frances Stribling, January 5, 1760.
B. Thomas, son of Colclough and Frances Stribling, October 22, 1766.
B. Susanna, daugher of Colclough and Frances Stribling , April 27, 1764.
M. Hester Stribling and Francis Rose, May 31, 1756. ( I take this to be Hester Colclough Stribling?)
B. Benjamin, son of Cochley (Colclough) and Frances Stribling, June 15, 1756
B. Joel, son of Colclough and Frances Stribling , March 8, 1758
B. Thomas, son of Colclough and Frances Stribling, October 22, 1766
B. Mary, daughter of Colclough and Frances Stribling, February 16, 1769
Hope this helps, it sure helped me. Appreciate any feedback on this. There are more names here getting more into the Striblings.

May you walk in sunshine.
Hello friends,
Well the past few days have certainly been interesting ones! As many of you may know by now, the server that housed a number of the RootsWeb mailing lists crashed.
Many long, hard hours were put in by some very dedicated people, in an attempt to restore it's function. Sadly, in the end, all lists housed on that server had to be moved to another one.
In the course of all that has taken place, some lists were affected. You may notice that some lists that you subscribe to, no longer have the prepend (i. e. list name), in the subject line. Some may have lost the taglines found at the bottom.
And unfortunately, some who had mailed either sub or unsub requests to the affected lists, did not get the request met. One other problem that has arisen, was that a few people who were subbed, were lost from the list.
Things are getting back to normal, but I am still working on getting my lists edited and the custom settings redone.
Another thing you might notice and watch for, is whether your replies go back to the sender, or back to the list. Some of these functions likewise were affected.
Not all of my lists were affected by the crash, however I am going to send this to all my lists, for one specific reason. Even though you might not be on one of my lists affected by the crash, you might have been subbed to others that were. And a number of my lists were housed on that server.
I highly recommend that you check to see which mailing lists you are currently subscribed to, to make sure you are still listed as a subscriber. You can do that by going to
http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com
This would also be a good time to do a quick roll call and make sure you are getting through. Make sure your replies go back to the list. If when you hit reply and look at who it is going to, if it does not have the mailing list in the addy, you need to hit "reply to all."
For some of you, this will be the first message from me, as I had just adopted several more lists right before the crash.
Now, does anybody have any aspirin????? <BG>

The List Mom
with only a slight headache!
Hello Fellow Listers :)
For a little while now I have based my earlier Colclough ancestry on a chart
created by Ottley & Ottley, evidently in 1969. I have now come across some
things that make me wonder about it all, and I am tired of my line not being
able to pass the common sense test. I want to posit some alternatives, and
ask my helpful listmates to point out wherein the errors lay.
Option #1 (strictly from Ottley):
George Colclough and Elizabeth Keeling have 5 (or more) kids:
1) Thos. Colclough, of Token Yard in Sothbury, London, Citizen and Grocer,
ob. 1680, who m. Elizabeth Goodey, who was b. 1646.
2) Adam Colclough, b. 1614, of Delf-house, Blurton, Staffordshire, who m1.
Elizabeth dau. of Thos Bamford of Cheadle Park, Staffs., and m2. Catherine
dau. Edward Street of Kiddington, Co. Oxon. Adam issue by both wives.
3) Anne ux Thomas Dyott.
4) George Colclough of Virginia, New England, where he died: Michael
Colclough, John Colclough, Richard Colclough (all 3 s.p.). I presume this
indicates children of said George.
5) Reginald Colclough of Cheadle, Co. Staffs, m. Elizabeth Walter, and had
unnamed son Colclough (I presume John Colclough). This unnamed son had a son
Benjamin Colclough of Stafford Co., New England ob. 1748 in late 17th/early
18th century ob. 1722, m. Rachel.
This seems to work fairly well, until you compare the alternative, which I
will call the Irish tourismresources option (named after the site where I
stole the following):
Option #2 (as I understand tourismresources):
Imagine 3 separate families of Colcloughs in early america, starting with
the one which is that presented otherwise in Ottley;
family a) George Colclough of Delph House, b. 21 MAR 1576/7, d. 1639, m.
Elizabeth Keeling and has the following children -
1) Hannah, b. 13 DEC 1608 (passing as Anne in Ottley?)
2) Bartholomew, b. 22 JAN 1611/12
3) Thomas Adam, b. 01 OCT 1613, who m1. Street and m2. Bamford.
4) Jane, b. 31 DEC 1615
5) John, b. 12 JAN 1617/18, who was a ships captain, and died unmarried
6) Thomas, b. 22 FEB 1619/20, d. 1680
7) Richard, b. 21 MAR 1624/25, who had a son John living in 1666
8) Elizabeth, b. 07 FEB 1625/26
9) Reginald Reynold, b. 12 OCT 1628
10) Michael, b. 01 NOV 1635
11) George, b. 14 APR 1622, d. VA, m. Ursula Bysshe and Elizabeth
Thoroughgood (which I think should be Willoughby), and who had no kids.
So since there are no kids from John or George there, and there is no
Benjamin, we have to go to another family -
family b) Robert Colclough of Stephney m. Susannah Griffith (who also
married a Hillary and a Blagroe), and had (perhaps among others):
1) John Colclough, fashioned to be born about 1640.
2) Ralph, b. 1639-1642.
It would be this John, who I suspect is meant to be the one who is seen
variously as born 18 JUL 1641, who married Mary Rivett or Mary Partridge,
and had 3 sons, Benjamin, John, and another son.
and for completeness
family c) George Colclough of Trentham and his son Thomas.
I have imagined that this line must go Matthew, John, Anthony, George,
Thomas. This makes Thomas the husband of Elizabeth Goodey. I suspect this is
all in error, so could someone please tell me how George Colclough of
Trentham is descended from Matthew Colclough, the draper of London?
Option #3 (Boddie)
Boddie says John Colclough (father of John and Benjamin) was the son of
Caesar Colclough. I don't see anyone really maintaining that assertion. Can
someone tell me why Boddie thought that? Does anyone have the Tyler cited by
Boddie, or the Visitation?
Option #4 (various internet sites)
John Colclough (father of John and Benjamin) was the son of Matthew
Colclough. The dates just don't work for this one.
So I am looking at Ottley vs. family "b" of the tourismresources. If the
Reginald, born 1628 is accurate, then it makes it VERY hard for him to be
the father of John, born 1641. And I think that is why this line
(Ottley-derived) is usually shown with Reginald b. 1605 or so. Can anyone
show a Reginald, b. 1605 as the father of John Colclough? Does Ottley have
Michael, John, and Richard (perhaps the sons of George of Delph House and
Elizabeth Keeling) mis-identified as the sons of George Colclough, who died
in VA?
I like the tourismresources idea better. Make John Colclough born 18 JUL
1641, and dying 19 SEP 1717 (dying after his son, John Jr. - does that fit
with the records?), with his brother Ralph born 1639-ish. Then John has
sons, Benjamin, born c. 1669, d. BEF. 11 APR 1722, and John Jr., who would
be born in 1665 (because of the suit of 1689/90 claiming him 24 years or
thereabouts), and who must have died pretty young, and was married to Hannah
(said to be a Chapman, or maybe a Walker). This option works really well for
me except for one thing -it makes John and Ralph's father, Robert, 76 years
old at the birth of John. A touch ripe.
Other things:
1) I found a site showing a marriage of Mary to 3 men, Henry Smith, Richard
Carter, and George Colclough (all of them dead evidently by 1702). Can
anyone tie them to this family?
2) Mary Rivett or Partridge m. John Colclough? What is the source for
Rivett? And I imagine Mary Partridge married a Colclough, but where is it
said that the Colclough was JOHN Colclough?
3) The Colclough GenForum post #177 queries about Elizabeth, daughter of
George Colclough (circa 1687). Can anyone tell me which George this is? I
can think of a couple of daughters IN LAW that might fit the bill, but
that's it.
4) Was Elizabeth Colclough (m. William Elias de Bowling) born after
Benjamin's death?
5) Does anyone have a good marriage date for Banjamin and Rachel?
Cheers,
Gregg the Longwinded
Hello,
Re: PARTRIDGE - WILSON - WILLIAMS - KELLY - STOKES - BELL - DONIPHAN -
JENNINGS - WILLOUGHBY - PAYNE - EDRINGTON - ROBINSON - RIVETT - EIDSON/EDISON
- COLCLOUGH surnames that connect in 1600's - 1700's England and/or Virginia.
I want to lead this query by saying that I am very grateful to Linda KELLY
(KELL) and John COLCLOUGH for recently sending me information that has helped
uncover some missing pieces of information in my JENNINGS - KELLY - DONIPHAN
- PARTRIDGE ancestry for which I have been searching.
I am looking for any information on the following, (below listed,) probable
PARTRIDGE sisters and their various marriages and family connections, (listed
below,) and searching for whom their parents were as well as more information
about the connecting families including the WILSON/WILLSON line and a
possible connecting WILLIAMS line for my 4th great grandmother, (wife of
Samuel EARLE, IV, (Sgt./Rev. War,) born: 1766 in Fauquier Co., VA,) who was
Tabitha WILLIAMS, born: 1766, daughter of Catherine "Caty" ? and George
WILLIAMS who is thought to be the son of Anne WILLIAMS and Roger WILLIAMS who
is descended from James WILLIAMS, born: abt. 1572 in St. Albans,
Hertfordshire, England, and his wife, Alice PEMBERTON, born: 18 Feb 1564 in
St. Albans, Hertfordshire, England, died: 01 Aug 1634, London, England,
(mother: Katherine STOKES, died: aft. 1578, father: Robert PEMBERTON,
born: abt. 1520, died: 16 Jul 1578. (Is this Katherine STOKES related in
any way to the Hannah STOKES who married John BELL, Jr., born: abt. 1700,
(mother: Ann BENNETT, (father: Richard BENNETT, Jr., (father: Richard
BENNETT, Sr.,) and father: John BELL, Sr., born: abg. 1668 in Surry Co.,
VA, died: 17 Jun 1713.) I have no parents for Hannah STOKES nor the above
mentioned Katherine STOKES. Hannah STOKES and John BELL, Jr.'s son, John
BELL, (3,) married a Phoebe STOKES who was the daughter of a Silvanus STOKES
but don't know an exact connection yet for Hannah STOKES to their family.
(The above mentioned Samuel EARLE, IV, (Sgt./Rev. War,) born: 1760, was the
2nd son of his father, Samuel EARLE, III, (Major,) born: 1692 to be named
Samuel EARLE, IV, with the 1st to be of that name being his 1/2 brother,
Samuel EARLE, IV, born: 1727, who died in his 20's, who was the son of
Samuel, III, and his 1st wife, Anna SORRELL, and my Samuel, IV, was the son
of Samuel, III, and his much younger 2nd wife, Elizabeth HOLBROOK, born:
abt. 1733, (mother: Jannett/Jeanette PATTISON, (husband # 1: Henry
CONYERS,) father: Randolph HOLBROOK, Jr..) Samuel EARLE, III, (Major,)
born: 1692 in Westmoreland Co., VA, (1st Member of the House of Burgesses
from Frederick Co., VA, seat to be later held by (Gen.) George WASHINGTON,)
was the son of Phillis BENNETT, (father: John BENNETT, (mother may have been
Matillda ALLERTON, (1st husband was Samuel EARLE, I, and after his death she
married her 2nd husband, William RUST, and after his death she married her
3rd husband, John BENNETT,) and Phillis BENNETT's husband, Samuel EARLE, II,
son of Bridget HALE/HAYLES, (father: Thomas HAYLES/HALE,) and Samuel EARLE,
I, son of Mary SYMONS, (parents: ??,) and (Sir) John EARLE, (son of (Sir)
Richard EARLE.)
