There appears to be some confusion about Hezekiah's spouse.
One source claims she was Sarah Call, b. Mar 8, 1715/16, the daughter of Philip Call and Sarah Trussel of Amesbury. This would make her fourteen when she married Hez in 1730.
A second source says he married Sarah Cole, b. June 24, 1710, the daughter of Philip Cole and Mary Hadley also of Amesbury.
The second seems more likely especially when one looks at the Essex County Probate files for May 31, 1731 (Case Number 5985 Philip Cole of Cape Porpus, deceased) where Philip Cole of Newbury, a minor of about 16 yrs, chooses Hezekiah Colby of Newbury to be his guardian. One of the witnesses on the Bond & Surety Document is Samuel Cole. Samuel was an older brother to young Philip as evidenced by his Amesbury birth record of August 29, 1704. Other names appearing in the document are Thomas Potter and Ebeneezer Smith, both of Ipswich and John Appleton.

Hezekiah and Sarah were married on Sept 3, 1730 in Newbury, Essex, MA but less than a year later Hezekiah was granted guardianship over Sarah's younger brother, Philip, who was about 16 years of age. This information comes from Essex County, MA: Probate File Papers, 1638-1881, Case Number 5985. The location was Cape Porpus, Maine and the date was May 31, 1731.
Can anyone tell me what happened to young Philip Cole? All other children of Philip Cole Sr. and Mary Hadley are recorded up to 1712 in Amesbury. In Charles Libby's GDMNH, page 156, it states that Philip & Mary were given letters by the Amesbury Church to the Wells Church on June 4, 1716 and were subsequently granted 50 acres in Arundel fronting on the ocean at Cleaves Cove. Any and all info would be appreciated.

Thank you for the information and interest Alan. Daniel Colby was also my G3 grandfather and I come down the Colby line.
It was a pity that the earlier records for Woolwich seem to have been "lost". The Napolean connection seems to be plausible given that Yarmouth was an important port on the East coast at that time and held stock for RN vessels stationed there which was probably supplied from Woolwich.
Regards Robert
