When I quit doing genealogy about 10 years ago, there was a discussion
about John W Colby and Nancy Tuck. You did not think they were my line
through John E. Colby of Thornton, NH. Who was a brother to Sophia Colby.
Hi is buried in Thornton, NH cemetery on lot with first wife and the Enoch
Colbys.
I think Marilyn was working on this line.
Can you point me to the dates on rootsweb so I can read what went on?

Well Bob at 82 I am doing pretty good, but its the "other people" that I
have to watch out for. My cleaning Latina girls were here last Tuesday and
moved a big chair in the bedroom so they could vacumn and then didn't push
it back where it belonged. Well yours very truly got up around 1 a.m. to go
you know where and fell over the dam thing. As a result my nose forceilly
met the chestbureau and to say its a mess is a understatement.

Colby is currently part of the management team at SCF Marine in St. Louis, a subsidiary of SEACOR Holdings. The sunken boat is actually a towboat. There is a little more info at this website:
http://www.towboatgallery.com/Stephen_L_Colby-0506770.php?mnu=1
However, it does not say anything about the man fro whom the boat was named. I have sent them an e-mail inquiry; if I get a reply, I will post it. I also went to the Marquette Transportation website, read the history of the company, and reviewed the names of the other 49 towboats in its river fleet. Based on what I see there, my guess would be that the boat is probably named for someone who was associated with that company.

hi. alice, et al.
don’t know whether this may help or not.
there is a free ebook on google books that you can look at on-line.
it has a list of Colbys, including Jonathan.
the ebook is called, The Boston Directory, Volume 58.
i also came across a Jane Colby, preceded by Mass, which was the ending of another snippet. perhaps you are looking for”plain jane”
