ANGELENO DIES IN THE ORIENT.
Young Missionary Succumbs to Heart Failure at Post in China.
Sudden death in a foreign field has come to William G. Colby, a young missionary sent to China by the Christian and Missionary Alliance of Los Angeles. Mr. Colby, who was a former resident of this city, was a victim of heart failure at his post in Kansu province, August 5, according to advices received yesterday by his uncle and guardian, M. V. Hartranft. Mr. Colby was twenty-six years of age. He had been in China since 1918. He leaves a widow, formerly Louise Stotts of Pasadena.

And that is an option we have when we grow up. I was an only child. I, too, was raised that I was to eat everything on my plate, which was far too much food for a child. I don't remember much in the way of dessert at our house - canned fruit, maybe. I do remember sitting at the table looking at a cold vegetable on my plate, with a father who insisted that I eat it before I left the table.
I did not do that to our girls. I didn't spank them, either. One eats every conceivable vegetable on earth; the other
doesn't. Talking to them and an occasional time-out (mostly for my benefit, I think!) were all that seemed needed for the minor offenses they committed.

Marilyn, I have been reading your string of emails this a.m. Are you in John and Marie-Josephte's line or are you another Colby who keeps track of everybody? I am curious because she was my fourth g grandmother. I spent ages looking for my third g grandfather, whom I believe to be Peter, Marie Josephte and John Colby's son.
The copy of their marriage record on Ancestry is not clear enough for me to read. From what I could tell, I thought John Baptiste referred to John Colby, whom as you said would have had to have been baptized Catholic in order for their marriage to have taken place. Then I ran into a family tree on which someone had a son, Jean Baptiste listed,
Since John Colby b 1762 in Sandown was not around when his father made out his will, I always believed that the reference to John in the will was to that son, John - that he had already received his share but was being acknowledged in the will.
I don't remember now who submitted this and am curious where it came from.

It may be. I have a a world subscription. The 1940 CA census is not up yet. I received a Family Search email a week or two ago saying that we are half through with indexing all 50 states. Few are completely indexed and arbitrated.

It might help when the 1940 CA census comes out - which I was told would be around July 27th. I think it has been totally indexed because I don't find it among indexing choices anymore (and there were some LA censuses I was assigned to reindex) but is probably still being arbitrated.

OOOPS!! So Sorry! I did not get your name on the list! Now, I have to
go back and check all the pages to see if I missed anyone else! ARRGGG!!!
It is just a chart; with the names of the people who contributed (listed by
first names) and which of Anthony & Susannah children they are from and how
many times. Some people - like John Paine Colby are from multiple
children. (Wonder is he does not have 2 heads! LOL) And how many known
descendants that child has.
I will be putting up a new one maybe later today. Several more lines have
come in!!! I check them against the database to be sure they are legit.

Fred Colby, living a mile and a half from Bolckow, with two neighbors, was cutting down a tree on his farm Thursday of last week. Colby declared that he would make the tree fall the way he wanted it or would die in the attempt. He climbed it and fastened a rope to it a number of feet from the ground, the other end being attached to a stump. Then they went to cutting. When the tree fell it went in an unexpected direction, and Colby was caught in the rope and thrown to the ground. The back of his head struck a stump, receiving injuries from which he died the following day.

We went to visit our older daughter, 30, this week. She tells everybody that she was the cause of us removing our house plants when she was little. A friend of hers has a 2-1/2-year-old who is very interested in eating the dirt around the house plants, but not the plants. So there is your dirt eater. If you have a five-year-old who eats vegetables, that is really something.

I was given the name Keith Alvin Colby as having died in Lancaster,
California 23 Feb 1980. and was born 29 April 1948 from the military
record.
Can anyone tell me who his parents are - where he fits???

I've been wondering. Are any Colbys vegetarian? The reason I ask is because it has always been a joke in our family that Colbys will eat anything! Just wondering.

John and Marie had been married a year before returning/coming to Sandown. I suspect that Jean Baptiste was born in Canada, but died.

Great! Every little bit helps!
Here's my understanding:
John Colby married Marie-Josephte LaMare and they had children:
Jean Baptiste who they left behind in Canada
John
Peter
Mary or Polly all in Sandown.
What happened to John? Marry someone? Died young??
