Ron, I saw a list of soldiers in the southern part of Louisiana--Tickfaw I think' and listed was a Carl Colby. I am not sure if he was union or a Johnny reb. Wish I had paid more attention.

Longtime Goodland, Kansas resident Darryl Eugene "Buzz" Colby, 65, died Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice Center in Wichita.
He was born December 1, 1946, on a farm near Bellaire, Kansas, the son of Wanda (Gleason) and Clinton "Pat" Colby. When Darryl was a child, the family lived in several different towns, due to his father's work building grain elevators. Darryl graduated from Edson High School with the class of 1964. He served his country in the United States Army, receiving an honorable discharge on December 14, 1967.
On June 20, 1969, he and Marilyn F. Musalek were married and to this union were born six children. Darryl attended Northwest Kansas Vocational School in Goodland, graduated with the class of 1974, and then worked as a carpenter in Goodland. In 1976, the family moved to Kensington, where he worked for Great Plains Motors. In 1991, he supported Marilyn's years of earning her nursing degree by helping to raise their family. He supported his children in their academic achievement and their sporting achievements. He was a proud father, seeing his sons take numerous state championships in football, basketball, track, and baseball. He supported his daughters in their sporting achievements in basketball, volleyball, and track. Darryl enjoyed racing in his younger days, and continued that interest by taking his family to Red Cloud, Nebraska, to enjoy the races. Bowling was another hobby that he enjoyed by his participation in bowling league. Watching football, NASCAR, wrestling, and !
shows featuring judges' ruling on cases were television favorites. His favorite football team was the Denver Broncos, and his favorite NASCAR driver was Dale Earnhardt, Sr.
Preceding him in death were his daughter Susan Lynn Colby; parents Pat and Wanda Colby; grandparents Russell and Mildred Gleason, and Charles and Mary Colby; and brothers Don Colby and Willis Colby.
Surviving family includes his wife Marilyn Colby of Haysville; children Sherri L. Smith of Kingman; Steven L. Colby and his wife Stacy of Goodland; Stacey L. Colby and his wife Melissa of Smith Center; Shawn L. Colby and his wife Melissa of Hays; Scott L. Colby and his wife Stacie of Layton, Utah; eleven grandchildren; sister Patty Kirby and her husband Fred of Goodland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Tuesday, October 16, at 10:30 AM MT, at Koons Chapel in Goodland, with Elder Ricky Colby and Pastor Jacob Soyez officiating. Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery. Friends may share their respects at Koons Chapel, on Monday, from 5:00 until 7:00 PM MT. Memorials may be designated to the Darryl Colby Memorial, and may be left at or mailed to Koons Funeral Home, 211 N Main, Goodland, KS 67735-1555.

Subject: memorial Colby newsletter
Hello all,
I have decided to make the next Colby newsletter (March 2013) a
memorial issue for past leaders of the Colby clan. Since many of you
have been members for much longer than I, you might remember and
suggest individuals to be recognized. I will include Adeline and
David Stack, Neal Slocum, and Bea Blasenak, but I don't have
information on others.
If you know a name, and/or would like to send photos or anecdotes to
include, I'll be grateful. I'll start working on the issue in
mid-February, so there's a bit of time to think about what to include.
Thanks!
Barbara
