I am trying to find a link between the colby's of great yarmouth and those in woolwich kent about 1800.
It is believed that Daniel Colby b. 1806/7, eldest probable confirmed relative, was born in Woolwich that was part of Kent, and resided in Yarmouth. At least two census records show this fact. It is also identified that a John Colby b. 1814, not a known relative, was also born in Woolwich and resided in Yarmouth. Coincidence or could they be related? There is a baptism record for a John Colby 12 Jan 1814; parents Joseph Colby and Mary Colby - St Mary Magdalene, Woolwich.
In Woolwich at this time there was a Naval Dockyard building ships, and also a barracks including the famous Woolwich Arsenal.
There is a record in the National Archives that states "Copy note from the Navy Board to the Woolwich and Deptford Officers. If at any time freight is to be sent to Yarmouth, this may be done by Mr Colby's vessels, if any are in the river."
Why would the two men have moved from Woolwich to Yarmouth? Could they have been associated with the 'Colby's vessels' movements, possibly looking after the family interests?
It is also of note that Daniel Colby's first born child was named Joseph; family feature in those days.

AN UNEXPLAINED SUICIDE
BOSTON, Sept.13.---A sad and inexplicable case of suicide is that of George H. Colby, master mechanic of the Boston and Albany Railroad, who shot himself through the head this morning while laboring, it is supposed, under an intense fit of mental aberration. Mr. Colby enjoyed a lucrative salary, in addition to a large income from several valuable patents on his own inventions. His habits were of the most exemplary character, and he had no business troubles that were known by his most intimate friends. He had a beautiful home on Columbus avenue, and so far as is known nothing existed in his business, social, or family relations that can be assigned as the cause of his suicide. He had been troubled with insomnia for several years, but never to such an extent as to prevent his attention to business.
This morning Mr. Colby was slightly more indisposed than usual, and had decided to remain at home. His wife had left him for a few moments to see some relatives aboard a passing horse car. She was standing at the front door when she heard the report of a pistol, followed by the noise of a fall, and rushing back she found her husband dying upon the floor, death resulting just as she reached his body. Mr. Colby had been Master Mechanic of the Boston and Albany for many years, and had a wide reputation as an expert in his line of business. He had won an enviable record, and occupied an exalted position in Masonic circles.

I was wondering if this was the male Colby who left Fayetteville, Pa. in the
early 1800's. I have found all of the girls, but not the other brother.
