Oh, Ted, you are in for a heckuva search. In my 26 years, I've gotten zero
information on John, Deborah or Joanna, except that she died in 1859 (not even
a month/day) in Moose River. It seems the Moose River Historians settled on
Keleiher for a spelling, but I've seen the name lotsa ways!

Subject: KEALIHER: Maine, 1800-1900
Date: Sat, 6 Mar 1999 17:28:58 EST
In the Northern wilds of Somerset County Maine, my family records
name the
following people:
Melintus J. Holden married Joanna KEALIHER September 1, 1824 at
Carratunk,
Maine. She was reportedly the daughter of John KELEIHER and
Deborah JACKSON.
(Note: the name is spelled numerous was throughout our family
records.)
Melintus J. Holden, Jr. married Elizabeth (Betsy) Kealiher on
January 6, 1855
at The Forks, Maine. Betsy was reprotedly the duaghter of Samuel
KELLIHER and
Jane Stewart. Betsy was born April 12, 1835.
I have tons of information on the Holdens, but very little on the
KEALIHERs.
Seeking anyone with knowledge of these familys to share
information and
research chores.

Wo! I must have missed something! Who initiated this? Philander was
mygggfather. From his letter written from Arborville, NE July 15, 1877
to
his uncle Otis Holden, I quote:
I give the names of my children in succession as their birth occurred.
Melintus Holden Colby, born June 13 1848
George Cummings Colby, born Dec 25 1850 (my ggfather)
Matilon Warren Colby, born May 5, 1852
Ambrose Sumner Colby, born Feb 14, 1854
George Cummings Colby, the second born April 22 1856
Emma (Ulalia?) Colby born Aug 7 1858
Orrin Philander Colby, born June 29 1860
Ellin Caroline Colby, born Feb 9 1862
Girtrude Butler Colby, born Aug 10 1864
Helon Hilton Colby born Oct 23 1866
Almira Jane Colby born Oct 26 1869
Now these are the deaths
George C. died nov 19 1854 aged three years 11 months
Melintus H. died Aug 17th 1859 aged 11 years 2 months.
---
The letter is interesting. I would be glad to supply it to the cousin
who
descends from Philander. (Or anybody, of course)
Philander and Mary Ann Ramsay Barber had no children, but her daughter
lived with them for a time--shows up in a Nebraska census.

Lists,
I came across some letters from Samuel Holden that indicate son Jonas left
Moose River about 1827, and did not return. Jonas and Melintus are the only
boys old enough to be the father of Mary Ann, so that should do it.
Thanks,
Marlaina

Melintus HOLDEN.
Mary Ann HOLDEN b. abt 1829, Moose River, ME
married Philander COLBY b. 1825 Embden, ME (son of Ambrose and Almira HOLDEN)
28 Nov 1846 Somerset Co, ME
Melintus HOLDEN b. 1801 Norridgewock, ME (son of Captial Samuel HOLDEN and
Jane FARNSWORTH).
All I have found is the unsourced works of others for their relationship and a
CD at FHL. I only input data in my work that is sourced and the FHL CD's
have been too unreliable for me to use.
Philander COLBY's brother, Spencer had a daughter, Mary Jane COLBY that
married into my HOLDEMAN family.
Thanks for any help!

Thank you for your reply. I AM a descendent of Anthony & Susannah, but yet to ever get to the Macy-Colby House. If you could forward the contact information, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
