Subject: Re: [COLBY] Hannah Colby
Too Many Hannahs!! Here is what I have.
(1) Their marriage was earlier than that and they moved away. First,
to New Hampshire and then Maine. The first child I know of was Thomas, born
in 1789 in the other Salisbury – the one in Merrimack, New Hampshire
(2) I don't have a Hannah Colby married to Daniel Tewksbury. Miriam &
Dolly Tewkesbury's mother was Hannah Hoyt, daughter of Theodore Hoyt &
Hannah Colby, born 30 October 1748. Daniel Tewksbury was the son of John
Tewksbury & Sarah Colby, born 19 October 1753. Miriam & Dolly had a sister,
Molly born 16 April 1795. I kinda think that Hannah would have been
rather old (47) to have had another baby – but that is what they did, back
then. The gap in ages probably shows babies that did not make it.
(3) I don't have any indication of Hannah Colby, daughter of Ezekiel
Colby & Mary Tewkesbury marrying anyone. So anything is possible!
Also, not too far outside those dates:
Hannah Colby, daughter of Abraham Colby & Elizabeth Blaisdell – born 3 Oct
1753. She married Reuben Hoyt. They moved to New Hampshire and had 8 kids.
Hannah Colby, daughter of Thomas Colby & Hannah Sargent – born 2 April 1752.
She married Hezekiah Nichols 3 Jan 1775 and had 7 kids. At least they
stayed in Amesbury!!
Hannah Colby, daughter of Moses Colby & Sarah Sargent – born 16 Oct 1758
married Ebenezer Woodbury. But they went to New Hampshire
And, in Newbury - Hannah Colby daughter of Richard Colby & Hannah Davis,
born 24 May 1752.

###
Rev. Thomas de Colby was a celebrated author and scholar. He was a member of
the Carmelite monks at White Friars' Monastery, Norwich, (England). This
order has produced a vast number of noted writers and men of learn- ing,;
and, before the invention of printing in 1440, when a book cost more than a
house, they were the copyists and historians.
He was promoted "for his great knowledge" by Richard II. to the bishopric of
Lismore and Waterford in Ireland ; - that was before protestant times. He
visited several foreign countries, and published many treatises, dying in
1406.
###
The fact that THIS Thomas died in 1406?? Differs from one I have picked up
via earlier research in Waterford, ireland viz:
Dear Maurice,
Thank you for your e-mail of the 9th of November. All I can do is confirm
that Thomas Colby was Bishop of Waterford for the years 1414 to 1422.
Unfortunately, our records only begin in the late 17th century, so we have
no personal details or documents prior to this time.
Yours sincerely,
Rev. Gerard Chestnutt, CC,
Diocesan Secretary.
####
I would appreciate any light you can shed on Thomas Colby in the above
regard.
