On one of the Salem sites ,part of Susannah's testimony is given and
sounded quite cogent. When faced with 2 teenagers having fits in front
of the court, Susannah was asked what her response to their
accusation of her having caused their fits, to "What say thou?", she
said something like "What am I to say of such folly?"

Yes, That was a sad state of affairs.
I believe that her name has never been cleared later by the State of Massacussetts but most of the others were.
Bonnie Johnson has a lot on her website:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~nwa/sm.htmlhttp://www.iath.virginia.edu/salem/people/martinpics.html
It took more than 300 years but she was finally exonerated:
November 2, 2001
Massachusetts Clears 5 From Salem Witch Trials
More than three centuries after they were accused, tried and hanged as unrepentant witches on Gallows Hill in Salem, Mass., five women have been officially exonerated by the state.
The act, approved by the Legislature, was signed on Halloween by the acting governor, cheering the descendants of Bridget Bishop, Susannah Martin, Alice Parker, Wilmot Redd and Margaret Scott. The five were among 20 men and women put to death during the witchcraft hysteria of 1692.
''We've had an awful lot of descendants that have been out there working for it,'' said Shari Kelley Worrell of Barrington, Ill., an eighth great-granddaughter of Susannah Martin. The Puritan leader Cotton Mather called her one of the most ''impudent, scurrilous, wicked creatures in the world.''
Ms. Worrell said: ''I want to make sure that people know she was not a witch. History will now record her as being what she really was.''
Ms. Worrell said she felt pity for her distant ancestor, who could have lived had she admitted to being a witch.
''How would I feel dying as a Christian martyr, having people think I worshiped the devil?'' she asked.
The state has tried to make amends before. In 1711, more than two decades after the trials, all the accused were exonerated and their relatives offered retribution. But, whether out of fear or shame, not all the families came forward to accept the apology.
A 1957 state resolution cleared the name of one more victim, Ann Pudeator, and ''certain other persons'' who were unlisted.
State Representative Paul E. Tirone, who helped shuttle this year's act through the Legislature, said the ''other persons'' should be cleared by name.
''These people were victims of hysteria, and they paid deeply with their lives,'' said Mr. Tirone, whose wife, Sharon, is a descendant of Sarah Wildes, who was exonerated in 1711.
The history lesson, he said, is one that modern Americans should keep in mind in the wake of Sept. 11 if they are tempted to eye their neighbors with suspicion.
''Sometimes when things like this happen we need to take a breath, and look at it,'' Mr. Tirone said. ''We just can't paint blame with a wide brush.''

Alice,
Check out this book in your library or purchase. The author tells you everything that you need to know: The following web links that I have provided should keep you busy until May!
From Publishers Weekly
In July 1991, the Pine Ridge Wounded Knee Survivors Association returned the remains of Zintkala Nuni (Lost Bird) from an unmarked grave in California to her South Dakota homeland. Former social worker Flood, who was instrumental in the relocation, has written a well-documented, powerful and chilling story of Lost Bird's brief life. One of the few survivors of the massacre, the infant was taken by Gen. Leonard Colby to be raised as a white child. Colby, a Nebraska lawyer, hoped to represent Indian claims; his wife, Clara, was an active suffragette who spent half of every year in Washington. Lost Bird was a lonely child confused by her identity?a nonwhite physically, a non-Indian socially. She was sexually abused by Colby, had two disastrous marriages, contracting syphilis in one, and was ultimately rejected by her tribe. Lost Bird spent some time with Wild West shows, drifted into prostitution and died an outcast at the age of 30. Flood's narrative grippingly illustrates
the clash between Indian and white cultures. Photos not seen by PW.

From Booklist
A heartrending biography of one of the few Native American survivors of the massacre at Wounded Knee in 1890. Discovered amid a field of corpses, sheltered by the lifeless body of her slain mother, Lost Bird, an infant Lakota, emerged from the shameful slaughter miraculously unscathed. Adopted by General Leonard Wright Colby, a corrupt and unscrupulous army officer and attorney, and his wife, prominent suffrage leader, Clara B. Colby, Lost Bird was financially exploited and sexually abused by the general and patronized by the well-meaning but misguided Mrs. Colby. Rejected by and alienated from two cultures and traumatized by the nightmarish quality of her rootless childhood, Lost Bird went on to face one devastating misfortune after another during her brief and bitter adulthood. Utilizing a host of Lakota sources, Flood, a noted Native American historian, provides a haunting account of an authentic American tragedy. Margaret Flanagan --This text refers to an out of

George Colby was a British privateer during the French and Indian War (1754-1763). He was the leader of the so-called Colby Pirates, who operated along the Great Lakes frontier between the British and French North American colonies. Colby's usual practice was to rig false light beacons to lure French ships into running aground. Colby's men would then row out in small boats to board and capture them. Colby's privateer status was officially revoked by King George III in 1764, after the war had ended, and little is known of him after that.
