DEAR COLBY FAMILY :
I THINK THIS INFORMATION IS INTERSTING. PERSONAL FEELINGS AND POLITICS ASIDE,
I FEEL THE COLBY FAMILY IS BLESSED HAVING THESE TWO, TOTALLY DIFFERENT INDIVIDUALS TRACED TO OUR FAMILY, WHO CHOSE TO DEDICATE THE MAJORITY OF THEIR LIVES TO PUBLIC SERVICE.

But the Mareen Duvall's daughter married in to the Cheney family in
Maryland.
Dick Cheney descends from William Cheney of Roxbury, MA
I can't find any connection between the Cheney's in Roxbury, MA and the
Cheney's in Maryland.
They are two different Cheney families as far as I can tell.

The two connect through Mareen Duvall, a Huguenot.

Hello, all! I am a Colby descendant living in Minnesota. I am
planning a trip to Boston in little over a week, and I was hoping to
find out where I should go to check into the family history,
including the Macy house. Any ideas from anyone? Any relatives
still in the area?
Thanks!

I looked up Richard Cheney's ancestry and he descends from William Cheney of
Roxbury, MA
There is a Richard Cheney in Maryland at the same time, but I can't make a
connection between the two families.
The Maryland Cheney's are the one Barack Obama supposedly connects with
So I'm not sure how Mrs Cheney made the connection between Dick Cheney and
Barack Obama.
Has anyone found anything that would make the connection between the two
Cheney families.

Did anyone else see the story in the news this morning that VP Richard
Cheney's wife has discovered in doing research for a book she is writing
that her husband and Barack Obama are 8th cousins?
Interesting.
The story was published by The Associated Press.

I never thought I would have to do this on the Colby list.
I have put the list on "temp moderation" because of the "Off Topic" Cheney
remarks.
It would have been fine to have discussed Cheney's ancestry or Barack
Obama's ancestry, but things went downhill.
Ron
My mother taught me at a very young age not to call people names. In case
you have not checked lately there are some highly intelligent Colby's in this
world. If you are trying to say that Cheney and Obama are two of a kind you
could have done so with out the insult. Although, we may not agree with you,
you have the right to voice your opinion with out slander.

Marilyn,
My wife and I returned last month from a week touring New Hampshire, from the White Mountains to the seashore to just about every county in between. We stayed in Concord as a base and I put 2000 miles on the rental car. We stopped in Henniker, NH and visited some of the old Colby homestead sites from the 1800s. I found a hand written map in the Henniker Historical society with locations of old Colby homesteads. I found some my Colbys' 19th century probate records in the Merrimack County Courthouse. We had a terrific dinner at the COLBY HILL INN. Anyway, there are a couple of Colby roads in Henniker, NH.
Freeman Colby is one of my ancestors.

Actually I think you are wrong. The McCunes were Ulsterscots as a a general
rule they did not have slave's but a few of them did. However some also had
indentured servants which was quite common and he could have been in this
category.

Hi:
This story makes me wonder about him. There was a Guy Colby in my husbands
family back when ? that was said to "be simple minded". I think that was a
nice way of saying he may have had some mental retardation or somekind of
disability.
But, my husbands family line is from Wisc., and ended up in LA.
I will try to check into the info I have and see if I can find more.

Wow, what a heart-breaking story. I wonder how little Guy turned out. My
picture has the "negro woman" being kind and loving, and the McCunes making
him sleep in the barn and do slave labor for gruel. I wonder how he got to
Missouri. I wonder what kin he was to me. I wonder, I wonder.
Thanks, Ron.
