YAKIMA, WA
Raymond Lawrence Colby Jr., 69, Yakima, died Sunday, October 22, 2006 at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.
Raymond Lawrence Colby Jr. was born November 2, 1936 to Raymond L. Colby and Esther Sattem Colby at McHenry, Illinois where he lived until he was five years old. The family moved to Woodstock, Illinois where Ray attended elementary and secondary schools. While in high school, he became a student of music and learned to play the piano. After graduation in 1945, he moved to Norfolk, Nebraska where he learned the trade of watchmaking and repair. At the age of 27, he was invited to an evangelistic meeting at the Norfolk Community Bible Church where he committed his life to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Later, he committed his life to preaching and teaching the Word of God, which he did faithfully.
On August 7, 1965 he married Beverly Pearson from Crystal Lake, Illinois. Soon after, they moved to Dallas, Texas where he studied at Dallas Bible College and earned his diploma. During this time, three sons were born to them (Kevin, Laurin, and Nathan) who he loved deeply. He was committed to his family and spent time with them camping, playing games, and being involved in their lives.
In 1971, Ray and Beverly became Village Missionaries at the Nile Community Church in Nile, Washington where they ministered for 4 1/2 years. He poured himself into serving the community through the church.
In November of 1975 Ray accepted the position of Chaplain at Living Care Retirement Community (formerly known as Living Care Center). He ministered there for nearly 31 years before he was taken home to be with the Lord. His heart went out to the people he served and he loved this ministry. He was willing to help those in need and had a passion for reaching others for Christ.
Ray became a master of the piano and enjoyed sharing his music through concerts at health care facilities and through his professional recordings. Recently, he enjoyed the opportunities of serving on short-term missions in Australia, Greece, and Washington D.C. He gave himself wholeheartedly to everything he did. He was loved by those who knew him and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Colby of Yakima; three sons, Kevin Ray Colby and his wife, Jill of Yakima, Laurin Paul Colby and his wife, Corrine of Florissant, CO and Nathan Jay Colby and his wife, Susan of Yakima; eight grandchildren, Allyson, Noelle, Tyler, Benjamin, Kirsten, Michael, Noah and Luke; two brothers, Chester Colby and his wife, Marguerite of Brooksville, FL, George Colby and his wife, Carol of LaValle, WI and a sister, Esther Seibol of Woodstock, IL and a brother-in-law, Paul Zigenbein, sister-in-law, Lillian Colby.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Colby, a sister, Beryl Woodworth, a sister, Shirley Zigenbein, and two brothers-in-law, George Seibol and John Woodworth.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Keith & Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 26, 2006 at West Hills Memorial Park. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Ahtanum Pioneer Church, 8500 Ahtanum Rd. Yakima.
In memory of Raymond Colby, a donation may be sent to Cannon Beach Christian Conference Center, PO Box 398, Cannon Beach, OR 97110-0398.
Keith and Keith is in charge of funeral arrangements. To celebrate the life of Ray Colby visit our website at www.mem.com.

Interesting! In 1850, Samuel & Mary Ann have 2 children - Abigail E. and
Harrison O. Also, a Charles E. Elliott, age 1 1/4, is listed with them.
But no "Otis R." Then, in 1860 Abigail is gone - married to Benjamin
Merryman, and also Harrison O. is gone but "Otis R." is listed. Could it be
that Harrison O. and Otis R. are one and the same person??? Split the
difference on the ages given - Otis born in 1834 and Harrison born in 1836,
say 1835 for Harrison Otis R(ogers)?
