Moses Emerson Colby that married Nancy Pool can't possibility be the son of
Ebenezer Colby and Lois Elliot.
If he died at the age of 46 that would make him born abt 1788 not 1780, to
much of a difference.
Note vital records information for Moses Emerson Colby:
according to the Gloucester, Mass vitals.
Moses Emmerson Colby b. ____, 1790
Moses Emmerson Colby h/o Nancy (Pool) d. Nov 5, 1835 age 46
The above two facts sure shoot down that Moses Emmerson Colby is the s/o
Ebenezer Colby and Lois Elliot.

There are (at least) 3 Moses Emerson Colbys.
I. Son of Benaiah Colby and Abigail Emerson was born 11 Jul 1765 and
married Polly Wiltham, Sep 1802. They had children: Polly, Henry, George
Washington, James Madison, Lewis, Andrew Jackson and Roxanna. Their son,
George Washington, married Sophronia Pool - relation to Nancy Pool??? I
don't know. Their daughter, Roxanna, married James Stillman and Polly was
living with James Stillman and her grandchildren in 1850 - no sign of
Roxanna. Their son, Lewis married Mary Emerson - relation to Abigail
Emerson? I don't know.
II. Son of Ebenezer Colby and Lois Elliot was born 25 Dec 1780 and married
Nancy Pool 26 Nov 1810. They had children: Emerson, William, Otis, Henry
P. & Louisa Ann. William married Martha and their children were: Clara,
Martha, and William. Emerson married his brother, William's widow, Martha
and they then had Horace and Jarvis. Emerson had first married Mary Carter
and they had a son -
III. Moses Emerson. He married Ann Eliza Smith.
I have not (as yet!) searched for any descendants they might have had.

It has been suggested the Moses is the son of Ebenezer Colby and Lois
Elliot.
Ebenezer Colby and Lois Elliot had a son Moses Colby b. 25 Dec 1780 and it
has been suggested that this Moses is really Moses Emmerson Colby. I have
found the following in the vital records for Gloucester, Mass that pretty
much shoots this down.

So the question is, who are the parents of Moses Emmerson Colby???

I think Charles is the son of Nehemiah & Rebecca Wire Colby.
He married Mary Atwood.
I only knew about their son, Gilbert Winslow Colby, who went to California.
He was born in 1823.
Mary must have remarried.

Hi Ron, Thanks for the info on Benjamin. Alas, he is not my Benjamin! Mine was married to Hannah Rowell (1784 -1869). And his father was Eliphalet Colby (1751-1824). I am not able to follow Hannah's family back very far. Thank you for taking the time to respond!

I have an ancestor who was Benjamin Colby (1782-1872) who lived in Henniker NH. He married Hannah Rowell in 1804. I have found on line a health manual written by a Benjamin Colby ("A Guide to Health") in 1846 in Milford NH. Does any one know more about the author of this book? Could this be my ancestor? If any of this sounds familiar, please e-mail me directly at freedomgroup6(a)juno.com Thank you!!!
