BROTHER AND SISTER DIE CLOSE TOGETHER
The latter was Mrs. Harvey G. Dickey, Formerly of This Place, A Woman Greatly Admired by Malone Friends.
A dispatch from Richmond, Vt., dated July 26, to the Burlington Free Press says. "By a strange coincidence a brother and sister, former residents of Burlington, Hiram E. Colby and Mrs. Sarah Colby Dickey, wife of Harvey G. Dickey, passed away last evening almost at the same time. Their deaths occurred at Mr. Dickey's camp at Lake Iroquois.
"Mrs. Dickey, was taken, suddenly ill with pneumonia last Wednesday and died at 10:30 last night. Mr, Colby was in his usual health as late as 7 p. m. last night when he was taken with acute indigestion and died at 8:45 p. m. preceding his sister, by less than two hours.
"Mrs. Dickey leaves her husband and a son, Dr. Gilmore C. Dickey, of Boston. A joint funeral will be will be held at the Congregational church in Richmond at 2.30 p. m. on Tuesday."
The above brief statement tells a story almost tragic in a family enjoying these summer holidays at their summer home and the sympathy of hosts of Malone friends goes out to Mr. Dickey for many years a resident of this village, and his son in their bereavement.
Mrs. Dickey was a. woman of most lovable qualities and engaging personality, who resided in Malone with the late Mr. and Mrs. Baker Stevens, for three years after her marriage in 1876 and made friends during that time of all whom she met. She had often returned here on visits, renewing and making firmer those acquaintanceships. She was the daughter of Judge and Maria (Colby) Safford, of Richmond, Vt. and would have been 75 years of age July 31st.

GEORGE L. COLBY DIED MONDAY
George Lyman Colby passed away Monday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Karl H. Walbridge, 60 Webster Street. His health had been fail during the past four months. He was 82 years of age.
The deceased was born in Berlin, Vt., on October 15th, 1851, a son of the late Stephen Benjamin and Eliza Smith Colby. Both of his parents had died before he was 12 years of age. As a young man he learned the carriage builder's trade and at a time when carriages were assembled and completely built in carriage shops. He followed this line of work until the business of carriage building changed from the shop idea to factory production. Then he turned to carpentry and followed this work for many years, usually being engaged with some contractor. He was an expert mechanic.
On Oct 19, 1876, he was united in marriage with Alice Dorothy Harran. Most of their married life was spent at Montpelier, Vt. Two daughters were born to this union: Allie, who later became Mrs. Joseph L. Pierce. of Montpelier, and Lena, who became Mrs. Karl H. Walbridge of Malone. Mrs. Pierce passed away about three years ago.
About a year following the death of his wife, she passed away on May 1, 1910, Mr. Colby came to Malone to make his home with Mr. and Mrs. Walbridge and has since resided here.
The deceased was a regular attendant at the Baptist Church here. He was a man of a retiring disposition, a prolific reader and one who maintained as active interest in the affairs of the world almost up to the time of his death. Until afflicted with the sufferings of his last illness he found a deep enjoyment in reading and in the company of a circle of neighborhood friends whose acquaintanceship he valued highly.
Mr. Colby had two brother, Charles and Stephen, the latter of whom died in youth. His brother Charles passed away five or six years in California.
Surviving are his daughter, Mrs. K. H. Walbridge wife of village clerk Walbridge of Malone, nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Strange. I have that Ann Upper Colby didn't die until 13 Dec 1874.
SPENCER CEMETERY,Ypsilanti no longer exists but there is a memorial stone.
COLBY, Ann w/o William L. Colby d. 12-13-1874 78y 8m 7d; Charles d. 8-7-1861 17 5m 4d s/o WH & Adelia; Emma d. 6-1-1855 5y 1m 4d d/o WH & Adelia; Melvin d. 9-11-1853 3m 17d s/o H & C Colby; Warren d. 5-18-1862 1m 2d s/o WH & Adelia; William L. 8-17-1844 32y
And, William H., son of William Lord Colby & Ann Upper had a wife named Adelia - not Ann. See the grave info, above. Byron is the last of the children of William Lord and Ann Upper Colby. Maybe even a posthumous(?) baby.
So this is an interesting puzzle!

Abbie E. b. 1882 d. 1967, James W. b. 1890 d. 1895, Lynn C. b. 1885 d. 1886, Page N. b. 1842 d. 1915 (this would match the name you mentioned as being listed on the census), and Sarah (no dates listed). Maybe these could be their

Any information regarding his children. I have only the dates
of birth for Martha E., Nathaniel P., Albino O., and Carlos Lee.
He was married to Electa Colby about 1850
There are two separate Colby lines which have often been confused. The Thomas Colby who was christened 20 Dec 1567 at Sempringham, Lincolnshire, England was married on 4 May 1596 at Horbling (about two miles north of Sempringham) to Anne (or Agnes) Jackson. He died 10 December 1525. Their son Anthony, christened 8 Sep 1605 at Horbling, was the immigrant who came to Massachusetts with the Winthrop fleet in 1630 -- he is the ancestor of the vast majority of Colbys in America today.
There was another unrelated Thomas Colby who lived in Beccles, East Suffolk, England, whose second wife was Beatrice Felton. This couple also had a son named Anthony, who was born about 1574. James W. Colby's 1895 book "Colby Family History" erroneously identifies this Anthony Colby as the one who emigrated to America, and the error has been perpetuated in numerous publications and family trees down to the present time. The identification of the immigrant Anthony Colby with the Suffolk line was conclusively refuted by Glade Ian Nelson in an article in the April 1975 issue of "The American Genealogist."
