Which Sarah Colby married 4 Jul 1790 John Kendrick?
There are two theories:
Sarah Colby b. 25 Jan 1771 d/o Timothy Colby and Hannah Blaisdell
Sarah Colby b. 7 Sep 1762 d/o Edmund Colby and Dorothy Ring.
John Kendrick b. 17 Dec 1764 d. 13 Sep 1807
Sarah was said to have died 11 Mar 1843 Haverhill, MA
I thought I would check and see if Sarah remarried, sure enough she did.
Mrs. Sarah Kendrick married 11 Apr 1811 David Marsh in Haverhill.
I then checked the death records for Haverhill
There is two entries for Sarah Marsh w/o of David.
Sarah w. David b. ---- 1771 d. ---- 1834
Sarah (Kendrick) w. David d. 11 Mar 1834
It looks like Sarah Colby d/o Timothy Colby and Hannah Blaisdell is the one
who married John Kendrick.

In the Boston church records, John Boswell is second in the following
sequence of names: Anthony Chaulby, John Boswell, Joseph Reading, Garrett
Hadden. In the Massachusetts Bay lists of freemen, John Bosworth is fourth
in this sequence: Jerad Hadden, Joseph Redding, Anthony Colby, John
Bosworth.
Examination of the other three men in these groupings reveals some
interesting parallels:
1) Colby, Haddon and Redding all moved from Boston to Cambridge by 1633
[CaTR 5].
2) Colby moved next to Ipswich (1637) and then Salisbury (1640); Haddon
moved next to Salisbury; Redding moved next to Ipswich (1639).
3) All three were single men in 1630: Colby married about 1633, Haddon
married about 1639, Redding married about 1640.
The grouping of these four men in 1630 and 1634, and the concerted
migrations of the three survivors, suggest that the four were associated in
some way. The gap between church admission in 1630 and freemanship in 1634
suggests that they may not yet have been twenty-one in 1630, and this is
supported by the approximate dates of marriage. Taken together, these facts
and suggestions indicate that JOHN BOSWELL/BOSWORTH, ANTHONY COLBY, GARRETT
HADDON and JOSEPH REDDING came to New England as servants, and were perhaps
all from the same part of England.
A survey of the members of the Winthrop Fleet produces one man who
settled first in Boston, then moved to Cambridge and on to Ipswich, and who
was wealthy enough to have brought four servants with him - SIMON
BRADSTREET. As a working hypothesis, then, we propose that this grouping of
four young men were from the vicinity of Simon Bradstreet's home at
Horbling, Lincolnshire, and came to New England in 1630 in his service.

Word has been received yesterday that T/Sgt. Paul E. Colby, reported missing in action over Germany Feb. 3, has now been reported killed through word from the International Red Cross. He was a gunner on a bomber.
He is the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Colby, having two brothers overseas.

T/Sgt. Paul Colby was happy when he rose into the air with his great bomber on Feb. 3, 1945. He thought he was on his last mission before he could return to his home and his family, whom he has seen only once for five days, in all the time from his enlistment in the air corps to his going overseas. It was, indeed, his last mission. He was killed in action. His body is coming home on the U. S. Army Transport Haiti Victory.
Paul was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Colby, 118 Woodstock st. His older brothers Lester and Laverne were also overseas. Paul was graduated from Crystal Lake high school in 1941, then worked for the National Grain Yeast Co. until he enlisted in the air corps on Jan. 10, 1943. He went first to Muskogee, Okla., then to San Antonio, Tex., Shephard Field, Tex., Sioux Falls, S. D., El Paso, Tex., Topeka, Kan., Yuma, Ariz., and then was sent to Biggs Field, Tex., for the B-21 bomber training program. In Aug. 1944 he shipped overseas.
With the 93rd bombardment group he started bombing Germany two years before the Allies invaded Africa. By early 1945 his group was distinguished as the first to complete 300 combat missions. He had a part in getting glider-borne gasoline to the men surrounded by the Germans at Bastogne.
On Feb. 3, 1945, he was reported missing in action over Germany and then in March his parents received the heartbreaking telegram informing them that he had been killed in action.

Funeral Services
for T/Sgt. Colby
will be Saturday
Body of Army Air Force Hero
Being Brought Home
Tomorrow
Accompanied by military escort, the body of Tech. Sgt. Paul E. Colby, who gave his life for his country on Feb. 3, 1945, will arrive in Crystal Lake tomorrow. Funeral services will be held in the Querhammer Funeral chapel at two o'clock Saturday afternoon, the Rev. Gilbert Weishaar of the Methodist church officiating, and burial will be in Union cemetery where full military honors will be accorded by the American Legion.
Paul was the youngest of the three sons of Mrs. and Mrs. Earl Colby, 118 Woodstock st., who all served overseas in World War II. He was graduated from Crystal Lake Community high school in 1941, enlisted in the U. S. Army Air corps on Jan. 10, 1943, and in Aug. 1944 shipped overseas. With the 93rd bombardment group he started bombing Germany two years before the Allies invaded Africa. By early 1945 his group had already distinguished itself as the first to complete 300 combat missions. What was to have been his last bombing mission before his return to the United States, was, instead, his supreme sacrifice.
A memorial service was conducted by the Rev. George B. Draper in the Methodist church.
He was buried in the United States military cemetery in Neuville-en-Condroz, nine miles southwest of Liege, Belgium. The cemetery was under the constant care and supervision of United States military personnel, but decision was made to discontinue it last October and Mr. and Mrs. Colby requested that their son's body be returned home for final burial. They had received the posthumous award of the Purple Heart and a citation of honor from the U. S. Army Air Forces, reading as follows:
"He lived to bear his country's arms. He died to save its honor. He was a soldier....and he knew a soldier's duty. His sacrifice will help to keep aglow the flaming torch that lights our lives...That millions yet unborn may know the priceless joy of liberty. And we who pay him homage, and revere his memory, in solemn pride rededicate ourselves to a complete fulfillment of the task for which he so gallantly has placed his life upon the altar of man's freedom."
It was signed by H. H. Arnold, General of the Army, Commanding General, Army Air Forces.

Howard Milton Colby, 97, of Riva Vue Road, Lunenburg, passed away peacefully
at his home, Tuesday morning, Jan. 4, 2005.
Mr. Colby was born in Lunenburg on April 10, 1907, at the Colby Farm, the
ninth child and fourth son of Luke and Nellie E. (Smith) Colby.
He attended the Pierce District one-room school with his oldest sister,
Olive, as teacher, and the Lunenburg High School for two years until it
closed. He then went to work for his uncle, Don Colby, in the wood industry,
turning bobbins at the Bobbin Mill in the Pierce District, and cutting
timber at the Colby sawmill in Victory, Vt.
He met his wife-to-be, Iola Hodgdon of Granby, Vt., while logging there.
They married May 29, 1932, had their three surviving children, and observed
their 70th wedding anniversary in 2002.
He lived most of his life in Lunenburg involved in the wood industry and
farming. In the early 1940s, he purchased his brother Ralph's farm and in
the mid-40s, formed the E. & H. Colby Lumber Co. with his brother Ellis. The
business later became Colby Lumber Corp., incorporating their sons, and
supplied custom-sawed lumber throughout the area, including pallets to local
paper mills. It closed in the mid-80s due to Canadian competition.
Howard was an avid outdoorsman all his life until his 80s, fishing and
hunting, including many trips to Canada with friends where he also owned a
cottage for some years. He impacted his lore for the outdoors to his
children and grandchildren.
He and his wife exemplified the best of dancers at the local country dance
halls until their health began to fail. Saturday night kitchen junkets were
held in neighborhood homes where he played the harmonica.
During the depression and 1940s, he and Iola just managed to provide for
their family but he would share a few dollars with those who came knocking
at the door asking for a temporary loan.
The sugar-on-snow parties at the Howard Colby sugarhouse, benefiting the
Lunenburg Methodist Church, were an annual event for the area and attracted
many from away to the traditional spring event. Until the last years of his
life, he was proud of their vegetable gardens and no visitor left without
fresh vegetables.
He was a member of the Lunenburg Methodist Church and the Masonic Order of
the Benton Lodge 88 of Guildhall, Vt. He was presented with his 70th pin by
dignitaries of the order on his 97th birthday in 2004 and planned to return
this April for the presentation of his 75th pin.
He is survived by a daughter, Judith C. Young; sons and spouses, Weston H.
and Frances Colby, and Amos C. and Mary Jane Colby, all of Lunenburg; a
sister, Rachel C. Gould of Kingston, Mass.; a cousin, Erma Simonds of St.
Johnsbury; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two
great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three grandchildren; his wife in 2002; a son-in-law in
2003; and 12 siblings.
Funeral services were held at the Bailey Funeral Home, Jan. 8, officiated by
the Rev. William J. Brown III. A Masonic service concluded the celebration
of Howard's life with 11 brothers participating.
Spring interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery, South Lunenburg, Vt.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the Kevin Colby Scholarship Fund
or for the preservation of the Lunenburg Methodist Church with checks made
out to Frances Colby or Judith Young, Bobbin Mill Road, Lunenburg, VT 05906.

Mrs. Mehitable Colby
McHenry Plaindealer: Another of the early settlers of McHenry county has passed away. Mrs. Mehitable E. Colby, who has lived in this county since 1840, died Saturday, June 7, 1902. She was born March 26, 1828. Was a member of one of the leading families of the community, that of Abijah and Thankful Smith. Only three of her eleven brothers and sisters surviver her, viz: Mrs. Abigail Colby, Crystal Lake; Mrs. Almira Brown, McHenry, and Mrs. Harriett Snyder, Hartford, Conn. These were all present at the funeral.
In 1834 she was united in maarriage to Page Colby, who now in old age is left to mourn the loss of a faithful and loving companion. Of her six children four now remain. Mrs. Ida I. Stevens and Mrs. Ellen A. Gage had preceded her to the life beyond. Those remaining are Chas. C. Colby, Mary J. Ford, George W. Colby and Willard E. Colby.
Mrs. Colby lived a retired and quiet life, but made her presence felt for good, nor only in her own family, but in her unselfish manner blessed many who incidentally came in contact with her life. In her home her kindness, love and devotion to the family were very manifest until the last, and only a few hours before the end came she expressed her sympathy for her husband and comforted him with the assurance that "the separation would only be for a short time." How true it is, although years it may be may pass, they are but short. To some in contact with such a choice spirit as this is to be made better by its association.
The funeral was conducted from the house, Monday, June 9, 1902, by Rev. W. B. Lauck of the M. E. church in the presence of a large company of relatives and friends, and her remains were laid to rest in the McHenry cemetery.
