COLBY -- Dolores Marie Colby died Monday, April 12, 2004, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was born Tuesday, June 30, 1925 in St. Louis, Missouri. Her life long home, however, was Albuquerque where the family moved in 1934 when her father found work during the depression. She attended Armijo Elementary and Washington Jr. High Schools and graduated from Albuquerque High in 1943. She married John Bradford Colby on November 2, 1945. She worked for the Signal Corp at Kirtland Air Force Base where she met her future husband. At the same time, she worked nights at the Lobo Souvenir Shop. Always concerned about, and interested in children she worked as a secretary/bookkeeper at the Special education Center in the early 1950's. She was the bookkeeper and later, office manager at the Albuquerque Academy from its founding until 1969. She had the pleasure of seeing her son and granddaughter graduate from the Academy. She was office manager for Sandia Girl's School (now !
Sandia Prep) and Manzano Day school in the 1970's. At each school she became an unofficial nurse, counselor and confidant. Her final bookkeeping position was with Rocky Mountain Roofing Company. After retirement in 1986, she treasured the time she spent as a volunteer cuddler with the Presbyterian Childlife Program and in the nursery at Desert Springs church. Her impact on those whose lives she touched is her greatest legacy. She was devoted, compassionate, selfless and loyal in all her relationships. Her rich sense of humor and desire to show kindness and gratitude to others continued to the very last days of her life. Her deepest appreciation and that of the family is extended to Dr. Matthew Montoya and his associates at SW Pulmonary Specialists and Dr. Victor Vigil and his associates at Hematology/Oncology Associates. Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, Ernst and Anna Blumenthal, her beloved husband, John and her brother, Carl G. Blumenthal. She is survived by !
her children, John Colby, Jr. and wife, Hillary of Napa, CA; Maryann T
rott and husband, Wayne of Albuquerque; her precious grandchildren, Tiffany Diane Colby of Healdsburg, CA, Daniel Wayne Trott and Elise Marie Trott of Albuquerque; her devoted brother, Ernst Blumenthal, Jr; her nieces and nephews; and her faithful companion and friend of the last 17 years, her puppy, Whisky. Memorial services will be held Friday, 10:00 a.m., at Desert Springs Church, 705 Osuna Rd. NE, with Rev. Bill Reid officiating. Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, NM. Maybe this will help.
Bert, Agnes, George, Jeanne, and Harry were all working for the "G Mfg Co."
and living at 72 Main Gonic in Rochester, Dover Area, NH according to the
city directory of 1939. There was also a George Colby and wife Elizabeth M.
working there and living at 49 Main Gonic.
In the 1941, Bert, Agnes and Jeanne are now at 87 Main Gonic and George is
not listed. George & Elizabeth are on Harding. Harry N. has a wife named
Lucille and they are living at 2 Mill Gonic.
The George married to Elizabeth could be the George born 27 SEP 1895 in
Boscawen, Merrimack, New Hampshire to James & Nellie colby - maybe?

NEAL CUMMINGS SLOCUM
BURLINGTON - Neal Cummings Slocum, 76, of Burlington, passed away Aug. 5, 2004, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Jan. 6, 1928, in Keene, N.H., the son of Harry J. Slocum and Lottie C. Slocum. He graduated from Keene High School in 1947, and earned his B.S. in industrial arts from Keene Teachers College in 1952. At Keene, Neal met the love of his life, Beverly Anne Blasenak. They were married May 16, 1953 in Littleton, N.H. Neal had a lifelong love of aviation. While attending college, he worked at the town airport. Likened to the "hobos" of his day who spent hours riding the rails, Neal was given the nickname "Skybo" due to hours spent at the airport and his passion for flying. Neal served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956 as an avionics instructor and instrument technician. He was an active member of the Experimental Aircraft Association. Neal and Beverly moved to Burlington in 1956, when Neal accepted a teaching position at Burlington High School. After a!
year of teaching, he moved on to T.A. Haigh Lumber Company where he worked from 1957 to 1966 as a custom millwork designer. In 1967, Neal began the most rewarding job of his professional life, for the next 13 years, he served Burlington public schools as audiovisual graphics designer, creating custom visual ads. He also led many workshops for teachers and was fondly remembered as a "teacher's teacher," for his extraordinary patience and attention to detail. In 1972, Neal earned his M.Ed. from Keene State College. In 1979, Neal returned to Burlington High School as a drafting teacher, and retired in 1991. Neal actively supported boy scouting. He was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of Burlington. Neal served on the board of Ruggles House and was a loyal alumnus of Keene State College. His family will fondly remember Neal's passion for building and collecting model airplanes from the "Golden Age" of aviation. Neal was also an avid photographer and a skill!
ed wordworking craftsman. Above all, Neal had a gentle and compassiona
te heart. He spent many hours being a faithful friend to the elderly and had an extraordinary gift for giving his talents and time to others. Neal also had a special love for animals. Neal is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Beverly Anne (Blasenak) Slocum of South Burlington; his children, Lee Ann (Slocum) Orlando and her husband, John Orlando, of Williston, Dean C. Slocum and his partner, Cyndy Craft, of Richmond; and son-in-law, Terry K. Bonson of Burlington. Neal was predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Susan Jean Slocum; and a cherished mother-inlaw, Beatrice Blasenak. A memorial service to celebrate Neal's life will be held Thursday, Aug. 12, at 2 p.m. in the First Congregational Church, Burlington. Corbin & Palmer is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, Neal's family requests!
that donations be made to the Humane Society of Chittenden County, 142 Kindness Court, South Burlington, Vt. 05403. "The reward of a thing well done is to have done it." -Ralph Waldo Emerson

Hi folks. This info was shared my Marjorie McCabe, our reunion host this
weekend.
I've been cleaning at the Macy/Colby house for the past 2 days with Luther
and Kathy. It was pretty dusty after having the new floor put down and of
course all the furniture had been moved around for the work. Thursday we go
back to arrange all the furniture so it should look good by Friday.
By the way, someone will be at the house from 3 - 6 Friday in case any Colby
visitors are interested in touring the house.

If someone has the Census records for New York in 1910, they should see if William John Colby is listed and on what family. I know for a fact, that Census records are not always correct or always complete. I use them for proof someone might have lived or been in an area at a time, but not as proof that someone didn't live.
I'd like to see where William John Colby was in 1910, since he didn't marry until 1915 or so. So he could have been living in 1910 with his family. New York Census for Batavia, Genesee County, New York 1910 for William John Colby, also for Frederic William with wife Ella.
Will someone check?? I simply do not have the funds right now to have access to census records at this time.
Jesy

Alice -
I have recevied my grandfathers SS application form
He lists his mother as a Catherine Deery
and his father as William A. Colby
the SS application is dated 12-4-1936 which would make him a that time 47 years old - which also means that he was 40 years of age when my dad William Anthony was born.
I have sent for his military records and his birth certificate.
We shall see... Alice, I thought I had it and now I feel lost again.
THANK YOU
Katie Colby
I am trying to find these family members who are all the children of John
Sullivan COLBY b.1847 NH and Helen RUTHFORD b 1850 VT.
I have the 1918 Draft Registration card for Enoch Clifford COLBY and know he
was a Sergeant in the Spanish American War but don't have any other details.
He was born in 1875 I believe in Illinois according to a 1880 Census from
VT. His sister Ruth was born in 1872 in Vermont and was a school teacher
there in 1900. His brother Joseph was born in 1880 in Vermont and was in
school there in 1900.
Thanks for your help.
Pam

ALICE - again thank you -
you have no idea what you have done for me ..
katie colby
I am out of town!! I'll need to wait until next week to look at this. Very
interesting!! I suggested Katie get his SS# application. That should have
his parents' names on it. And asked her to let me know. I have, from
somewhere, that he was in a boarding school in on the 1900 census.
And, I thought Chester died young. I have descendants for Florence - so I
know she lived to grow up. She named a daughter Mildred after her sister
who died.
Interesting! gotta go!

Katie
Have you sent for his death centificate.
I also found the following infromation
According to the 1900 New York Census for Batavia, Genesee County, New York
Frederick Clark Colby had 4 children, two of which are living
Chester N. b. Oct 1884
Florence b. Apr 1894
They did not have a son William John Colby.
So this kind of shoots down he was Frederick's son
