Pamela --
Yes, it would probably be easier if I had a scanner -- which I don't!
However, I'm not sure I could post a scanned document to the list -- Rootsweb has
some restrictions on what we can send. I don't mind doing the typing -- it will
just take me a little longer than it would for all you keyboard whiz kids!

It's not a very lengthy booklet, and it would be a snap for someone with even
average keyboard skills. Unfortunately, I am one of those "two finger"
typists, so it will take me a little longer. I'll get to work on it.

Ward Abner and Elizabeth Anne Colby
COLBY, WARD 'BUD' and ELIZABETH ANNE Longtime Warrenton residents and
service station owners, pictured on their 50th Anniversary. Bud and Liz
Colby, formerly of Warrenton, died Nov. 6, 2003, from smoke inhalation in a
fire at their Oregon City home. He was 91, she was 90. They had celebrated
their 70th wedding anniversary this year. Ward Abner Colby, Jr. was born
Jan. 7, 1912 in Vancouver, Wash. He was known as ''Bud'' throughout most of
his life. Elizabeth Anne Lilleeng was born Oct. 6, 1913 in Astoria. They met
in 1932 and were married the following year in Astoria, on his birthday. The
Colbys resided in Warrenton from 1935 to 1942 and from 1950 to 1997. During
most of those years, they owned and operated a service station, and Bud also
worked for the Warrenton post office. In 1971, he was appointed postmaster,
a position he held for five years. From 1942 to 1950, they lived in San
Francisco, Vancouver and Portland, while he worked for the U.S. Army
Ordnance. They moved from Warrenton to Oregon City in 1997. Bud loved
sports, especially boxing and baseball, and was a New York Yankees fan all
of his life. He enjoyed yardwork, and, much to his neighbor's amazement, was
still doing it up until last year. He was also known for telling jokes and
for his vise-like handshakes, which he was still giving at the age of 91.
Besides working in their gas station and being a homemaker, Liz was an avid
crossword puzzle solver and an excellent baker. Those lucky enough to enjoy
them raved about her homemade cakes and pies. In her later years, she also
liked watching TV game shows and soap operas; her favorites included
''Jeopardy,'' ''Wheel of Fortune,'' and ''The Young and the Restless.'' They
are survived by a son, Don Colby of Portland; three daughters: Betty
Kuykendall of Oregon City, Mary Ann Colby and her partner, Esther Bell of
Portland, and Alice Colby of Hammond; six granchildren: Karrie Nations and
her husband, Scott of Banks, Kelly Kuykendall and his wife, Leona of Oregon
City, Stephanie Keller and her husband, Michael, and Sherry Colby of
Milwaukie, Tina Nelson and her fiance, Ben Fisher of Federal Way, Wash., and
Tom Nelson and his wife, Mary of Astoria; and seven great-grandchildren:
Kelsey, Becky, Danielle, Jay, Tyler, Noah and Ricky. Bud is also survived by
a sister, Violet Rayno of Vancouver; three nephews, and three nieces. Liz is
also survived by four sisters and a brother-in-law: Wilhelmina (Minnie) Hill
of Woodland, Wash., Agnes (Aggie) Hamilton of Clackamas, Annette (Nita)
Benson of Astoria, and Margaret (Margie) and Richard Eichenlaub of
Milwaukie; four nephews; and eight nieces. Family and friends of Liz and Bud
are cordially invited to a celebration of their lives Sunday, Nov. 23, from
1 to 4 p.m. at Clackamas Banquet Facilities (at Denny's, next to the Hampton
Inn), 15815 SE 82nd Drive, Clackamas. Take I-205N to exit 12 or I205S to
exit 12A. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests remembrances be made to

incarcerated), P.O. Box 15239, Portland, OR 97293.
