Hi,
I agree that Margaret, the daughter of Ela, is not the Margaret who married William Bailey. I had found the same info.
When last I was in Boston, I found the death certificate of a Margaret Bailey The date of death was 14 Jun 1861, Newburyport. She was 61 years, 6 months. She was married. Her place of birth was listed as Newburyport. COD: Consumption. Her father was listed as Joshua Bailey and her mother as Elizabeth---. Both were said to have been born in Newburyport.
Year: 1861; Vol: 147; Page 269; No.91
Question: Could she have been a Bailey, who married a Bailey or ould this be a typo?
Shari
Sometime back we were looking for the identiy of Margaret Colby who was
married 24 OCT 1815 Newbury, MA to William Bailey. It was sugested that
Margaret Colby b. 19 JUL 1797 d/o Ela Colby and Jane Holmes was the Margaret
Colby.
After carefully checking census I have found that Margaret Colby d/o Ela
Colby and Jane Holmes did NOT marry William Bailey.
Margaret Colby died 28 Oct 1879 in Londonderry, New Hampshire and is burried
in Sunnyside Cemetery, Londonderry, NH along with her parents.
She is also listed in the 1850 Derry, NH census, age 52 with her is a Sarah
F. Colby 14 daughter?, Niece?
In the1860 Londonderry, NH census she is listed, age 62, as head of
household, living with her is her brother Edward Colby
Margaret Colby who married William Bailey is listed as Margaret Bailey in
the 1850 census for Newbury, MA, age 50 living with her is son John B.
Bailey
As you can see we have two different Margaret Colby's
I have no idea at present who William Bailey's wife is.

I'm happy it came together. I'm not exactly a blood relation, I married in to Harold Eugene Coulby(Gene). We live in Rocky Ridge, MD, but he was originally from Southern MD, LaPlata area. His Dad still lives there. I'd be glad to send you what I have, it would be easier to send it by snail mail, so all I have to do it photo copy it, just let me know where to send it. My son Adam clued me into this. I think he messaged you before also. Although this would be in the copy, our family line from William which was Sallie's brother, Married a Mary A. and I think he had only one son, Edgar Morris, Edgar's first wife died they had one son William, Edgar remarried to Irene Agnes Stine, they had Howard, Adrian, Robert, Edward, Edgar, Elizabeth, Lorriane, Mary, Thomas, James, Joseph. Edgar died approx. at age 45 in a truck accident. Our father is Adrian Morris his 1st wife was Shirley Irene Mills, they had Adrian, Jr., Harold Eugene, Rita, Sandy, Robert, Janice and Mary. Then comes us !

I enjoy this type of thing, funny thing my husband doesn't find it quite so. I just wanted to do it for my kids so they would know. I'm trying to find out if a Harry Coulby was in our line. He was a multi-millionaire in Ohio. thought that would be kinda cool. Well better go I could go on and on.
Does anyone know if this Capt. Jacob Colby (as inscripted on his headstone, but no flag and he is also not recognized by DAR) was in the Revolutionary War? If so could you direct me or send me the information with a source.
Sheila
Which Revolutionary War are you asking about? The American Revolution was over before Jacob Colby born 22 Jan 1782 was born.

That's so cool that we're related! Where do you live now? It's interesting to see where our family has spread. Sallie is my great great grandmother (my granny's grandma). I don't know if you have this info, but here you go:
Charles Howard married a Margaret Elen Galloway, and they had one daughter Hellen Howard Adams (my grandmother). Helen married James Ward Jump, Sr. and had two children, James Ward Jump, Jr (my Uncle Jim) and my mom (Judith Ellen Jump, who goes by Judy). Judy married Harold Kenneth Clingerman and had two children, Emilie Megan Clingerman (me) and Jason Christopher Clingerman. Jim Jump married Shelley Gillam and had two children James Darrell Jump and Elizabeth McKenzie Jump. I have all of their dates of birth if you are interested. Also, Nellie went by the name of June.
Is there any way you can send me (either by snail mail or email, which ever is easiest for you) the rest of the lineage that you have? That would be great! Thanks so much!

B:1874, Sisters-Maria J. B1853, Elizabeth. Although Eliz and Wm aren't recorded in ancestry.com they are mentioned in the 1880 Federal Census. I didn't find a Florence though. According to ancestry Sallie was born 11/9/1869 died 11/25/1948. She married a Louder Layton Adams B:5/3/1863, they were married on 1/1890. Their children were Charles Howard B:8/24/1890, Mary "May" Estelle B:4/19/1893, Ethel B:1895, Thereas E. B:11/2/1899, Nellie R. B:7/7/1907 and Robert. Sallie and our great grandfather William were brother and sister. I can't seem to find too much out about William and his children. I think he only had one child Edgar Morris who was our grandfather. Hope this helps. I have the rest of the linage back to 1550.

According to our family bible, Sallie Hopkins Coulby had three brothers: William, Robert, and Charles. She also had a sister named Florence. She married Lowder L. Adams and had several children, including a Charles Howard who was born in 1890 and died in 1979. Maybe there is a brother of hers missing from the records who she named her oldest son after?
