The Minnesota death records begin in 1908 so anyone researching before
1908, will need to contact the individual county in which the death
occurred. Minnesota did not have an official statewide death records
system until 1908. Until then, each county maintained its own death
registry.

COLBY a Soldier of the 104th Regiment
I'm searching the ancestry of Solomon D. COLBY, my 3rd great
grandfather, born about 1783 in New Brunswick. Solomon enlisted with
the 104th Regiment of Foot (New Brunswick) which came to Upper Canada
during the War of 1812-14. He was discharged after 7 years service and
settled in Upper Canada. Unfortunately, despite having quite a few
military records, there is nothing that gives a clue to his specific
birth place. I'm starting with this list since he was part of a St.
John detachment for a time.
I obtained a land petition through the New Brunswick Archives from a
John COLBY dated 1786. He was requesting title to some land that he was
living on in what I have interpreted as Jemseg. John's petition says
that he came to the Province of Nova Scotia in 1776 and served as a
minuteman in the town of Windsor until he joined the Militia with Major
Studholm. I know of no connection between John and Solomon but the COLBY
name does not appear too often, in the area at that time, as far as I
can tell.
This is probably a coincidence but I have found three birth records, in
the late 1880s with a Solomon Colby PERRY as the father.
I'd love to hear from anyone who can provide any leads.
Thanks,
Ron

Subject: [COLBY] David Colby of Indiania
I am new to this mailing list. I am looking for more information on David
Colby and have included the information I have on him. One of his sons,
Wesley Colby, was my great grandfather and I have information on all of his
descendants (he had three sons).
Does anyone know if David had siblings? What prompted his move to Indiana?
Son Wesley was a logger until he was injured in a logging accident in his
twenties.

Hello,
I'm new to this site or group. I am researching the Timothy Colby, born in
New Hampshire, possibly in 1832, married twice, the first time to Elizabeth
M. Young and the second time to Elizabeth Williams (of whom I know little
except her name). The children of the first marriage were William, Susan
and Alva Colby. Alva probably died before age 20 in 1888. Susan married
Fremont Avery and William married Isabell Hostrawser, these latter were my
wife's greatgrandparents. I know of two children by Timothy's marriage to
Elizabeth Young, Earl and Charles. There were likely others. Timothy
spent much of his life in Sauk Co., where he is buried. Elizabeth Young
Cobly is buried in Spring Green.
If anyone can help me with this Colby family, especially Timothy Colby's
ancestors, I would be very appreciative. I have a fair amount of material
on his descendants through William Lloyd Colby, born in 1867 that I would
be happy to share.
Thank you in advance for any help you can give.

I am looking for any marriages of any Colbys that married any Crawfords,
Wests or Vests in Indiana or the NE US states prior to 1820. Thanks. Ann
