Hello,
Because of the catastrophe that happened in the United States Tuesday,
11 Sept., 2001, MyFamily.com (RootsWeb.com and Ancestry.com) has
created a special Message Board for those who wish to express or share
condolences, sorrow, prayers, and thoughts for the victims, their
families and friends.
However, this is not a board for discussion on how the U.S. should
resolve this issue or about how the search for those responsible is
going.
The URL for the board is
<http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=usa-tragedy.mourning>
Let the healing continue ...

Mrs. N A Burritt Dead
Well Known Pioneer Woman of the City Died at her Home Today
Mrs. Nancy A Burritt, widow of the late Goodwin Burritt, and one of the best loved of the pioneer women of Kenosha, died at her home on Prairie Avenue died at her home shortly after one o’clock this afternoon. Mrs. Burritt would have been eighty years of age next August and for the last three years she had been suffering from tuberculosis of the glands. For the past year she has been confined to her room. Her condition had been exceedingly critical since Sunday morning and death had been expected. The funeral will be held from the late residence on Wednesday morning at 9 o’clock and the remains will be taken to the Liberty [Corners] cemetery in the town of Paris [Salem] where the interment will take place in the family plot.
The death of Mrs. Burritt marks the passing of one of the best-known women of the city. Mrs. Burritt was the daughter of Levi and Nancy Wilson Colby. She was born in Bradford, Vermont in August 1826. Shortly after her birth her parents were removed to Boston where her mother died. Mrs. Burritt came with her father to this county in 1846 and settled in Salem, where he made his home for many years. In 1846 Mrs. Burritt was married to Reuben Townsend of Boston and went with her husband to Newport, N.Y. where they resided until the breaking out of the civil war.
Mr. Townsend enlisted as a volunteer, and after being taken sick, he died on his way back from the South. Mrs. Burritt then returned to the home of her father in the Town of Salem, and in 1866 she was married to Mr. Burritt. He died many years ago, and since that time Mr. and Mrs. R E Wilkinson have made their home with Mrs. Burritt.
Mrs. Burritt was a woman of many noble characteristics, and her death will come as a personal sorrow to many people in the city.
[Note: Marriage certificate recorded Vol 4 Page 20 Kenosha County Wisconsin indicates she married Goodwin Burritt August 19, 1867 but the certificate was not recorded until 1903. From death certificate: Resided 611 Prairie Avenue, Kenosha. Parents both noted to be born in NY. Full name noted Nancy Alamanda Burritt]
