I believe your Alice Colby Daunais, married to Leland Daunais, Sr. were my Aunt and Uncle. I believe they had 9 children by the names of Leland, Jr., Donald, James, Gloria, Anthony, Shirley, Beverly, Frances and Richard which would make them my 1st cousins. I also believe Cousin Anthony is now reside in the home on Neil St., S.L. I have found information on Ancestry.com family tree I think was put on by Anthony regarding his family. You can contact me if you wish. I also am looking for information on Leland, Sr.'s brother Herbert. Thru my research I have found many family members by the names of Alice and Larry.
Hi Folks,
Somewhat incidental to my family research I found a lengthy obit for
Nancy Colby, daughter of Levi and Nancy Wilson Colby b NY later of
MA, Vermont, and Wisconsin. I am interested in any siblings and any
other relatives that came west to Wisconsin. Anyone able to identify this
family?
Thanks,
Bob Fay

Mrs. N A Burritt Dead
Well Known Pioneer Woman of the City Died at her Home Today
Mrs. Nancy A Burritt, widow of the late Goodwin Burritt, and one of the
best loved of the pioneer women of Kenosha, died at her home on Prairie
Avenue died at her home shortly after one oclock this afternoon. Mrs.
Burritt would have been eighty years of age next August and for the last
three years she had been suffering from tuberculosis of the glands. For
the past year she has been confined to her room. Her condition had been
exceedingly critical since Sunday morning and death had been expected.
The funeral will be held from the late residence on Wednesday morning at
9 oclock and the remains will be taken to the Liberty [Corners] cemetery
in the town of Paris [Salem] where the interment will take place in the
family plot.
The death of Mrs. Burritt marks the passing of one of the best-known
women of the city. Mrs. Burritt was the daughter of Levi and Nancy
Wilson Colby. She was born in Bradford, Vermont in August 1826.
Shortly after her birth her parents were removed to Boston where her
mother died. Mrs. Burritt came with her father to this county in 1846 and
settled in Salem, where he made his home for many years. In 1846 Mrs.
Burritt was married to Reuben Townsend of Boston and went with her
husband to Newport, N.Y. where they resided until the breaking out of
the civil war.
Mr. Townsend enlisted as a volunteer, and after being taken sick, he died
on his way back from the South. Mrs. Burritt then returned to the home
of her father in the Town of Salem, and in 1866 she was married to Mr.
Burritt. He died many years ago, and since that time Mr. and Mrs. R E
Wilkinson have made their home with Mrs. Burritt.
Mrs. Burritt was a woman of many noble characteristics, and her death
will come as a personal sorrow to many people in the city.
[Note: Marriage certificate recorded Vol 4 Page 20 Kenosha County
Wisconsin indicates she married Goodwin Burritt August 19, 1867 but
the certificate was not recorded until 1903. From death certificate:
Resided 611 Prairie Avenue, Kenosha. Parents both noted to be born in
NY. Full name noted Nancy Alamanda Burritt]

I am mistaken! Horace had a sister named Alice - I do not know when or where she was born. Horace's father was George M Colby and his mother was Sarah Avery. Horace was born in York Beach, ME on Feb 28, 1892. He was raised by his grandfather - Charles Alonzo Coby. His sister Alice was younger than he was but noone in the family knows what year she was born, but family info shows she passed away in either 1918 or 1919 from the flu. She is said to have had a girl and a boy, twins in 1917. Her married name, according to family info, was possible Commode or Newton.
If any of this sounds familiar to you, then that is great! Hope to hear from you. If this is the right Alice Colby, then please email me at dmhop(a)gte.net.

The name Alice Eileen Colby does not sound familiar, but I do not know any of Horace's siblings, aunts, or uncles. Robin,
I haven't seen many Colbys from New Orleans. I am descended from Walter T.
Colby, who married Lenora (surname unknown). Walter was supposed to have
been born in New Orleans. I don't know when, however, his daughter, Lenora
M. Colby, was born in 1847 in Virginia. Although Walter moved from New
Orleans, my grandfather told me that he returned to New Orleans after he
retired. My grandfather believed that Walter (my gr-gr- gr-grandfather) was
a medical doctor.
I haven't run into John M. Colby or Maria Ankrom, however, I'll keep an eye
out for them!
Best wishes, Don Tillitson (Riverside, California)
