Can anyone help answer these questions for Elbridge.

My questions are as follows:
How was Dolly Bagley, my great-great-great-great-grandmother, related to
Colonel Jonathan Bagley?
Do you have any biographical information on Charles Abraham Colby, Colonel
Ebenezer Thompson Colby (especially his war record), and John Colby (their
father)?
Can you point me to sources of information (preferably on-line) where I
might find out more about the Tewksbury and Carrington lines?
Thank you,

Subject: COLBY SURNAME
Hello Ronald,
I love your website. I too am researching the Colby surname. I scrolled through the pages, but was unable to find my gggg grandmother Olive Colby, daughter of John Colby of Salisbury (believe that is NH). According to the book "History of Haverhill", John Colby "had charge of Daniel Webster's Salisbury farm."
Olive was born on January 16, 1793. She married John Brown on Jan. 7, 1813. They lived in Haverhill and Coventry-Benton, NH and had 10 children.
Do you have any information available on this Colby line?
Thanks in advance.

Glenn,
You can order a copy of his photo along with other military Colbys.
Go to: http://carlisle-www.army.mil/USAMHI/PhotoDB.html
Enter the Colby surname in the search box and you get 8 returns. One of them is Carlos.
If you order a copy us Colby cousins would appreciate it very much if you would scan the photo and pass it on.
BTW. Have you learned what your Colby line is?

Thank you for your response, It was very helpful. I wonder if anybody has a picture of him. You would imagine that something of that type of significance would be photographed. Well keep in touch and if you find anything else let me know. I definitely enjoy reading it and would love to get a copy of the text of the citation and hang it on my wall. I teach ROTC to Cadets at the University of CT and you can bet that this will become a part of my class in some way.

Do you know what geographic area your bible or its families were from?
Hi all.
My wife and I attended the Colby reunion last weekend. We had an enjoyable time. I met Bill Whidden who had been kind enough to give me the location of the grave of Eliphalet Colby (1728-1812). Eliphalet's grave is about 100 feet into the cemetery on the left side about 30 feet from the town hall building in Hopkinton, NH. From there we drove to Henniker, NH and I located the graves of his son Levi Colby and grandson Silas Colby and families.

Subject: Colby family tree
Dear Mr. Colby --
If what little information I have about my grandfather is correct, I think
he
is hte same Charles Colby as given in your extensive Colby genealogy.
The information that I am able to add is that his full name was Charles
Sumner Colby, born in Amesbury Mass, a shoemaker. His wife was Grace Marion
Wilcox, of Big Flats, NY (now a suburb of Elmira), the oldest of nine,
daughter of Samuel Wilcox and Emma Tolbert. According to family legend,
Charles Colby's mother was an American Indian named Sarah (I'm not so sure
this is true). He supposedly was married twice before he married Grace (my
grandmother), who was considerably younger than he (Grace was born
10/2/1885). Charles died 8/30/1931, aged approx 71. His age at the date of
my father's birth was given as 53. Grace died 4/15/1973. They had two
children: George Philip (my father, born 8/23/1912, died 3/31/1984) and
Lucille (b 6/30/1917, died 10/1984). My father married Evelyn Logan (b
10/14/1918, d 6/4/1984), date unknown. They had two daughters -- Carol
Colby
Tanenbaum (b 3/7/1941) and Gail Colby Burkhardt (b 4/23/1945).
I know nothing more about Charles S. Colby other than that he died in
Philadelphia General Hospital and his body was donated to the Anatomical
Board. He and my grandmother separated for a number of years prior. HIs
parents were not given on the death certificate. My father's birth
certificate is the source of what little information I have.
I hope this is of some small interest to you. I've much more information
about my grandmother's family, as well as my mother's. It would appear that
all of them emigrated to the colonies around the same time!
Sincerely,
Carol Colby Tanenbaum
Would like to find out who this Charlie Colby is.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Subject: Colby family
Hi,
Just today, I received some records of my branch of the Colby family.
Tonight I found your web site. The first names on our records match.
Anthony & Susanna Colby, immigrants to America in 1630 or 32 is how mine
reads.
Then several generations are missing, until Samuel Colby (1784-1855 or 60)
who married Jemima Northrop.
Their son was William Alexander Colby (1819-1912) who married Mary ann
Richardson.
Their son Samuel Theodore was the father of Rollo Blair, who was my late
husband's grandfather.
I checked all your William's and Samuel's, but couldn't find any matches.
The family record of William Colby was copied from loose pages in the Family
bible of Laura Almeda (Colby) Frazier, who was the daughter of William.
William came from New York and settled in Frankfort, IN, where several of
his descendents still live, including my father-in-law, his brother, and his
sister.
Do you have any infor on these Frankfort Colby's? I would love to fill in
the missing generations between Anthony and Susanna, and Samuel & Jemima.
Your web site is very interesting. I am going to send the web page to my
great uncle-in-law, who furnished me with all the information I have.
Gail Colby
Ron,
In case you don't have it, the 1860 Genesee, East Pembroke census shows:

34 38 38 Colby Hannah 35 F
35 38 38 Colby Mary 11 F
36 38 38 Colby Sarah 8 F
37 38 38 Colby Frederick 5 M
38 38 38 Colby Hannah 2 F
39 38 38 Colby Junius 1 M
REMARKS: May be a twin to Julia

Perhaps it's him.

Hi all.
If anyone would like a picture of the Colby Cheese House in Colby, Wisc. including yours truly. I will send it as an attachment off list. I won't even charge for autographs (:
Bob
Ron and List,
I found an Isaac 58y in Springfield, Sullivan, NH w/wife Salley 54y. Residing with them Sarah 27y and Judith M. 18y. All born in NH. On the same page there is a John STICKNEY 82y w/wife Judith 77y.
Hope that helps.

Subject Eliphalet Colby , who is in my line is buried in the Old Hopkinton Cemetery next to
the Hopkinton Town hall with a large slate stone on the left hand side as you drive in, and in
the shade of the town hall. I have yet to locate his wife Mary Rogers. His son Nicholas also
my line, and his wife Lois Martin are buried side by side with matching stones in the Colby
Family Cemetery in the woods off Dodge Hill Road. A road on the right leads to the Colby
house, first on the left, and several cellar holes beyond. I stopped to ask directions at the
house and the lady answering the door told me that was the Colby house and told me the
cemetery was in the woods opposite the road. Reference Historic Cemeteries of Heniker N.H.,
