Put a query on their site and you might receive some responses.

HI John and all;
I have a research paper from a UK university (don't recall which one),
inflation rate from 1700 - 1998, in PDF format. It is 182 KB. I'll
send it to anyone who wants it.

I've recently joined the Colby list and am curious to know if anyone else is
researching the COLBY family in the northern Illinois region. Moses & Harriet
lived in Aurora, Kane Co., IL. He was b. Feb 28, 1810 possibly in Maine and
died Nov 20, 1891, and is buried in Spring Lake Cemetery, Aurora. Harriett
was born Sept 15, 1819, in Plattsburgh, NY and died Sept 13, 1907 in Aurora
and is buried with her husband. I have a lot of info on Harriett's family but
not much on the COLBY's.
Let me know if you have info on this family in this part of the country.

Does anyone know the approximate conversion between the US dollar and the
English Pound, circa 1800-1810?
For some years after the Revolutionary War, the Pound was still used as
legal tender in some places. I have a will which lists valuations in pounds.

Hi Wilson & Pat,
I don't have any information about William Colby but was very interested in
the note about Quarles J. (Corliss) Colby. My great-grandfather was Corliss
Colby and I haven't been able to find out anything about him. I keep
hitting a brick wall. The date that Pat gives of 1879 seems to fit for my
great-grandfather and I know that he was from Thorpe, Wisconsin. Could it
be the same person? My information for Corliss Colby follows, can anyone
help us verify the connection?
Pat, I also would like to make a connection to the Laura Ingalls Wilder
Colby's but know that I have a ways to go. Either way, it will be fun to
pursue it. Would you mind sharing any information you get for William
Colby? If the connection is right, I guess he would be my
great-great-grandfather.
Thanks!

Thank you for your reply via Marilyn. I sat here today and typed all
the information I had and out of no where AOL proceeded to cut me off

This is the information sent me by Marilyn. I believe she has made a
good connection.
WILLIAM COLBY B: 9-1842 IN MAINE-- Father unknown born in Vermont,
Mother unknown born in Maine.
M: ELIZA J. (Unknown) B: 8-1847 in NEW YORK -- Father born in

1.) Hattie C. B: 6-1868 in Wisconsin - she was a school teacher.
2.) Quarles J. (Marilyn thinks the census taker made a mistake on the
name)
B: 5-1879 in Wisconsin. In the 1905 Census a CORLISS J. is listed
born in 1879. I believe they are one in the same. (?)
3.) Claude C. (Christian) B: 8-1881 THIS SHOULD BE MY HUSBANDS
GRANDFATHER if so there is a difference in the birth dates. My father
in law listed his B: 7-13-1881 in Thorpe, Wisconsin. This
information came from my father in laws military records.
4.) Guy W. Colby B: 7-1893
5.)
6.)
There is another listing as follows. Marilyn, as do I, believe this
to be a son of William and Eliza. Unknown Colby B: 8-1870 in
Wisconsin - Father born in Maine - Mother born in New York
M: Annie (Anna) Unknown B: 8-1875 in Wisconsin - Father born in

My husband is the son of Ralph (no middle name) Colby. He is Ralph
Leroy Colby we have 5 daughters and two sons. The boys are Ralph
Scot Colby of LA and William Michael Colby of LA. We also have a
grandson by one of our daughters that carries the last name of Colby
instead of his fathers. We also have a grandson that carries Colby as
his first name his last being Strockbine.
I have all the wives and children of all these Colby's. Most of them
are still living. If you have any further interest than this please
let me know.
If you can assist in tracing past William for us we would be
thrilled.
My daughter wants so bad to connect our Colby's to the Laura Ingalls
Wilder Colby's.
I told her not to hold her breath. I also have a post with Ralph
Colby's picture at age 1 year and 11 months - 18 days - dated:
7-21-1907. Stamp on Photo East high & North Clark St., ILL - received
Withee 8-14-1907 Address to a Ralph Colby so who was he, if William
was Claude Christians father.
This is what makes this all so interesting and fun.
Looking forward to hearing from you again.

Everyone
Would the real Moses Colby please stand up.
According to Weis:
Moses Colby b. 11 Jul 1765 s/o Benaiah Colby and Abigail Emerson
married and lived in Rockport. d. 21 Mar 1846 Rockport.
Moses (1157) had son Moses (1676A)
This Moses (1676A) married Polly Witham.
I think Moses b. 1765 and the Moses married to Polly are one and the same.
Polly Colby is listed in the 1850 Massachusetts Census. Rockport, Essex
County, page 148. Age 74.
Living in son-in-law James Stillman's household.
James is the husband of their daughter Roxana Colby b. 18 Dec 1818.
So if this is the case her husband Moses would have been born sometime
before 1776.
They were married in Sep 1802 making her 26 and him 37, not out of line.
If her age is close to being correct in the census.
There isn't enough time to get in two generations
So here is what I have, please correct me on this if I'm wrong.

Will and all
Ebenezer Colby married Abigail Willey
Had the following children born Manchester, Bennington County, Vermont:
Ebenezer Franklin Colby b. 22 Sept 1815
Lucy Philenda Colby b. 7 Jan 1818
Rachel Horatia Colby b. 5 Jun 1821
Myra Colby b. 12 Feb 1831
Information given to me suggests this is
Ebenezer Colby b. 18 May 1799 Amesbury s/o Ebenezer and Molly Currier
Ebenezer would have only been 16 1/2 at the time of birth, probable, not
likely.
Does anyone know for sure which Ebenezer Colby is married to Abigail Willey?

AMERICAN REVOLUTIONARY WAR REJECTED PENSIONS
During America's struggle for freedom, thousands of men fought for the
colonial
government and many received pensions or bounty land grants for their
service.
This database is a listing of men who applied for a pension but were
rejected.
It was originally published in 1852 and was an expanded version of a book
published in 1838. Each record provides the applicant's name, state and town
of
residence, and the reason their petition was denied. It contains the names
of
over 8,600 individuals. For researchers of Revolutionary War ancestors, this
can
be a helpful database.

Reuben C. Colby and Judy are said to be the parents of
Blanchard Colby b. 10 Aug 1793 Orford, Grafton, New Hampshire
It has been suggested to me that this is the Reuben Colby b. 24 JAN 1774,
s/o John and Elizabeth.
Weis and IGI information do not support this.
According to Weis, Reuben Colby b. 24 Jan 1774 wife unknown
had the following child:
George C. Colby b. unknown, wife unknown
Children of George C.:
Daniel S. Colby
John H. Colby
Amos W. Colby.
Birth and marriage Index shows
George Colby married to Direxa Haynes 13 Nov 1822
IGI show the following children for George Colby and Direxa ___.
Amos Wheeler Colby b. 24 Dec 1823 Sandown, NH
Daniel Stanford Colby b. 21 Feb 1825 Sandown, NH
John Haynes Colby b. 30 May 1828 Sandown, NH
Which supports what Weis has.
IGI shows parents of George Colby as Reuben Colby and Hannah ____.
Birth date for George Colby 14 Jun 1797 Sandown, NH
COLBY, Reuben Marriage: Hannah
Marriage Date: 12 May 1795 Recorded in: Birth and Marriage Index for New
Hampshire

The big question is did Judy (Judith Webster Corliss) die and Reuben
remarry?
Is Blanchard Colby connected to the wrong Reuben?
Which Reuben married Judy?
Open to suggestions on this one.
