The Colby Family in Ea
Hi Don,
I have tried a number of Rogers family researchers and none so far can come
up with the family line of the Robert in question.
This is all the information that I have on him:
Bob
Rogers, Robert
1731 -- 1795
Frontiersman, soldier; born in Metheun, Mass. He led colonial troops during
the French and Indian War. "Roger's Rangers" fought the French and Indians
successfully in the wilderness. He fought on the Loyalist side during the
American Revolution.

Sorry to be slow but I loaned my Rogers back up to a friend and have not
gotten it back.
Yes. our Robert and the Robert of the Rangers are related, just
how I'm not sure. Both are said to be " Cheddar men". Robert of the
Rangers had grants of land in Hopkinton and surrounding areas, much of
which he lost. I have a copy of his wife's divorce pleadings if you want
to know the kind of scoundrel he was. He had the same problem as Bill
Clinton
I can send you my material for Mary & Eliphalet on back oryou may
find a copy of Janet Ireland Delory, 1986, 3 Generations of Rogert

Hi All,
I'm assuming that Will has not blown away all you fellow listers and I thought
I'd pass this on, I know that Ron was working on these Weare Colby's a while
back.
I may disagree with your politics sometimes Will, but any man who volunteers to
keep the master Colby database for us all, when not a known drop of Colby blood
runs in him, can cause me to hit the delete key any day -- with a smile ;-)
Perhaps it's the lack of Colby blood that makes you such a hate monger? <<<big

Subject: Peaslee/Peasley
Hi all:
1)Looking for Lydia Peaslee/Peasley, born about 1775 in (I have) Halstown, NH.
Does anyone know where this is? It isn't immediately visible on my usually
trusty Rand-McNally Road map.
2)Follow-up-does anyone know if there are records somewhere there, or if I
should try the nearest town (which is ___)? Records in the county seat? State
Capital?
(I may have a chance to do a running pass through the area in a couple of
weeks-does anyone have advice where to look for such early records?)
Any advice is gratefully accepted. Thanks, all.

Hi all,
I subscribe to about one hundred various gen. lists. and periodically
someone posts something that is inappropriate for genealogy lists, however
I have to weigh the benefits of the information learned and exchanged over
what sometimes is in this day and age is considered not politically
correct. There are many many lists for posting a ton of other such stuff.
I posted a few humorous postings some time ago and learned that on this
list and many others that it was not appreciated. I now only post those
things privately as I believe that they should be. Also, I believe that
the various genealogy lists become too clogged with unnecessary and
unrelated postings that increase the difficulty of searching previous
postings for specific information. Anyway, as I read on another list
yesterday someone posted some history of various sayings such as "Don't
throw the baby out with the bath water", which I believe would apply here.
Happy ancestor hunting!
Bob Colby
I did not realize this list was for political extremists to voice their
misguided opinions.
To that end I am unsubscribing from the list and not answering any
notes from those who will for sure flame me for my decision.

Gun bans don't work. Where has gun control worked? Washington, D.c.?
Chicago? In the public schools of this country? Congress has enacted
a nation-wide gun ban in every school and yet young thugs still
violate that ban.
Gun control actually endangers the lives of innocent people. If
teachers and school principles were allowed to possess firearms in
their briefcases or in their purse-- or to conceal them under their
jackets-- it would strike fear into the hearts of these juvenile
Rambos.
Unfortunately, the nationwide gun ban ensures that these
would-be-Rambos are the only ones with guns at school. Decent teachers
are forced to break the law to defend their students.
One such teacher did in Pearl, MS. in 1997. Assistant Principal Joel
Myrick saved the lives of countless students when he used his own
firearm to subdue the gunman that had already killed two students.
Who knows how many lives were saved by Myrick's courageous act? And,
likewise, who knows how many lives could have been saved in Colorado
if just one teacher had a gun? If teachers had a choice other than
just hiding under their desks?
The highest court in this land has told us that we can't display the
Ten Commandments on the walls of our schools because some children
might actually follow them. Parents are told they can't spank (not
beat) their children, or they will be taken away from them. Children
are not taught the difference between right and wrong, and when
children do wrong, most often there are no consequences that rise to
the level of the wrong they commit.

Dear Karen and Jim,
Thank you very much for expressing a sentiment that I (and I'm sure others)
share. I'm only sorry you're unsubscribing instead of hanging in with us
non-extremists who want to do genealogy without rudely and inappropriately
using the list for our selfish personal/political issues.

Hello,
I'm hoping someone knows of a Colby-Zale and Prist connection. I found
a tax record in Ashtabula County for a" Colby Zale Prist and Co of." for
the year 1832 and no one at the ACGS Library seems to know what it
means. Any ideals?
Sandy
Hi Sandy,
Millsford was a former name for DORSET TWP. It was changed to Dorset
in
1849. Don't have any idea about the name Colby Zale Prist & Co. I
looked
in the 1840 OH census index, and do not find any ZALES or PRIST or
PRIEST in
Ash Co. The COLBYs are of course there.
In the 1880 OH census index there are no ZALE entries. No PRIST in Ash
Co.,
but PRIEST, Mattheas ABWN 283 (Windsor);
I asked Jean, our senior aid, who knows the general books here very well
and
she came up with two Ashtabula Co His Soc quarterly bulletins with
Dorset
material in them, but neither comes up with any answer to your question.
One is a pictorial history and the other just text, but neither makes
any
mention. OH - just had a light bulb go off - the county histories.
hold
the phone.
Well, it was a good idea, but nothing there either - sorry to say.
Guess
you'll have to try this one in a query Sandy. Maybe you'll find someone
who
knows.
Sorry couldn't help more.
Elsie
