BTW. The following was posted on another mailing list. It appears that
you can bring a photo of a uniformed veteran into your local Wal-Mart to be
copied and displayed if you like.
-----
I just received word today that all Wal-Mart's nation wide are
sponsoring a
National Veteran's Wall to be built in Washington D C. To promote
this wall
they are offering a free 5x7 copy of your veteran's pictures. They
will make
2 copies of the photograph, give you one and keep the other to
display in an
in-store collage. After that, Wal-Mart will send their photographs to
Washington D C where it will be placed on a star on the National
Veteran's
wall.
The picture must be a veteran IN UNIFORM and you will need to
supply the
following information:
Name of Veteran
Rank
Branch of Service
Dates of Service
Unit
This information will be included on the star that contains the
photograph.
I
think this is a great idea and hope that all of you veteran's out
there will
take advantage of this offer and take your place of honor on this
wall.
Also,
they are including pictures of Civil War veterans so start digging
in those
closets and boxes for your family veteran's.
Please don't send me questions but check with your local Wal-Mart
if you
need
more details. I did call my local Wal-Mart to verify this promotion
amd
received confirmation. I asked if this was being done nation wide
and they
said as long as they have a photo-lab at the store this offer is
valid. The
deadline is Nov 11 so don't wait too long.
Brenda Marble
--------------------------
Gloria just a note in reference to the posting about the Wal-Mart
Veteran Wall--yes you can get the photos for sure--I am asst.
Manager of one of the Walmart Photo Labs -as a matter of fact I
worked at setting the display today-This is a great Free project,
the customer takes in a photo and you will get a free 5x7 and can
give permission and the other copy will be displayed. I might add
at this time the machine used to make these photos are the same one
that great black and white photos (that you do not have a negative
of ) can be copied on reg. photo quality
paper. Many folks make those copies, sharing memories, and are
very in-expensive. Just a added comment. Mary

Something to ponder ....

The most unfair thing about life is the way it ends.
I mean, life is tough. It takes up a lot of your time.
What do you get at the end of it? A death. What's that, a bonus?
I think the life cycle is all backwards. You should die first,
get it out of the way. Then you live in an old age home.
You get kicked out when you're too young, you get a gold watch,
you go to work. You work forty years until you're young enough
to enjoy your retirement. You do drugs, alcohol, you party,
you get ready for high school. You go to grade school,
you become a kid, you play, you have no responsibilities,
you become a little baby, you go back into the womb, you
spend your last nine months floating...you finish off as
an orgasm
Ron,
I've done a little research on the General and corresponded with the
genealogy society in his home town.
BTW. There is a great book which tells the story of the General and his
wife. I ordered it from Amazon. It is also in a number of public
libraries. "LOST BIRD OF WOUNDED KNEE, Spirit of the Lakota", By: Renee
Sansom Flood, Republished 1998 by Da Capo Press, NY, NY.

Another news story of cemetery vandalism. Maybe if more young people could
be introduced to genealogy maybe they would understand the pain that people
experience when visiting the graves of their families only to discover that
they have been vandalized. It is approaching that time of year when the
idiots are out and they do most of their damage to cemeteries.

Willoughby Colby and Sarah Sargent had several children:
Hoyt and Weis list their fourth child as
Shirley Colby b. March 16 1773 Bow, New Hampshire.
the book "Descendants of Abraham Colby and Elizabeth Blaisdell"
list this child as Philip Colby b. March 16 1773.
All other children are listed the same.
So do we have a Shirley or do we have a Philip?
Which child is correct?

What's up with the list? It seems to be pretty quiet lately?
Anyway, I thought I would forward this info. in case any of the more
affluent Colby researchers, like Ron or Will, would be interested in the
photos. Sounds like four thousand bucks would be mere pocket change, huh?
And I thought that K-Mart charged a lot for photo developing!
Will, on your next tour of France, check this out for us. Ha, Ha!

Hi all,
Found a web site with a hodge podge of various genealogy stuff. They even
have Elvis's will on line!
http://www.vanished.com/pages/unusual.html
BTW. If you are wondering why you're not hearing much from me, I'm out of
retirement and back among the working stiffs. I had to get out of the
house I saw my wife putting a big "To Do" list in the word processor and
she was working on a rather extensive Honey Do list!
Happy ancestor hunting.

Sorry Marilyn, this "record", as opposed to the other two I received,
was a transcribed typewritten form, and contained no other information.
I telephoned the Town Clerk's office originally, so I could explain
exactly what I was looking for. But I think they would respond as
graciously to a written request. The address on the envelope I received
was:
Town of Danville
PO Box 183
Danville VT 05828
I have no idea about the charge involved to obtain a copy of the
original, but perhaps it would be minimal. Good Luck in your searches.
Brian
While reading the booklet, " New Hampshire men at Louisberg 1745" I found
the name of Spencer Colby of Portsmouth, enlisted 13 Feb 1745. He was
listed as a "Mariner" in Fernald's company of Moore's Reg't. I hope
somebody can use this info. He was one of 600 men to serve.
I will check for other surnames if anyone is interested
