In the intervening years, we've made much more progress on the family.
Catherine, who married Robert Colebourn, was the illegitimate child of Margaret Lyon and Charles Frederick (West Indian sailor). When Catherine was 7 in early 1881, her mother married West Indian sailor, John Murray.
No record can be found for John Murray before or after the marriage and census of 1881.
The use of the Murray name in 1901 was simply to be elusive (probably because they were still not yet married).
I'm not sure that any direct link is likely between this and your Murray faamily, mainly because of the time span between the 2 people, though John Murray may well have been from Barbados, so there could be an indirect link.

Hello, My name is Wayne and I am tracking a Murray family from the West Indies, this family also had a Henry and a Walter and a Catherine who married a man named Williams, Henry's full name was Henry Edmund Murray born 1916 in Barbados and died 1964 in Camberwell London England. I realize that families often reused given names in the next generation but your family and mine have so many matches that I thought I'd send a message. Thanks Wayne
