I have found several instances where a reference is made to "old John" such as this quote "3. On 8 August 1894, J.S. Wolfe, 82 y.o slave of Jim Wolfe who lived his entire life with the Chickasaw, that Elizabeth Ann Stewart Holder was the granddaughter of Old John Colbert. He acted as the interpreter for Old John at the indian land sales in Ponotoc, Mississippi. "
or this one
" stated he knew George Stewart was a Chickasaw in Mississippi and that he married Old John Colbert's daughter and that George and Elizabeth Ann Colbert Stewart's daughter married a man named Holder."
But I can't actually figure out who "Old John Colbert" was. Is "Old John" a nickname for James Logan Colbert?
Confused!

Our Colberts were from either Waterford or Cork. circa 1860's The towns are in close proximity to each other. Robert Arnold's spouses name is unknown. I'm sure he must have had siblings. His children were Robert and William. The name Robert Arnold was given to the eldest male in the family. Robert Arnold Colbert, the first through the fourth. There are also William, Edwards, Raymond Lawrence, Donald LeRoy, Then there were the two sisters, Cleo and Shirley. Williams daughter is Margaret. Robert Arnold II"s wife was Sarah Parker. sarah had a sister Abygail. Our great grand father Robert Arnold III was born in Montreal Quebec in 1893 and his brother 1897. Their dad must have had siblings.

I just found out from Family Tree DNA that I am a 4th cousin of the Colbert's of PittMy 4th GG Thomas Calvert/Colvard was a blacksmith and owned a tavern in the town of Halifax, NC between 1758 and 1768. Then he moved west to Bute (now Franklin and Warren) Co., NC. During the American Rev. my 4th GG Thomas moved back to Halifax where he made muskets for the
Continental Army under Col. Nicholas Long. He died in 1785.
My 3rd GG Thomas was in the first U.S. Census of Franklin Co., NC of 1790 under the name Thomas Colbert. The family has kept the Colbert name since then. Thomas died in 1846. It is unknown how many children Joseph Calvert or his son
Thomas Calvert/Colvard had.

He moved to Smith Co, TN ca. 1844 with his mother and Henry Dorsey, the Timberlake, Stallings, Driver, and Conduit families and lived in Snow Creek area.
His son James Colbert moved to Ocala, FL in 1875.
